* UE, USI Establish New Pathways in Health Sciences

The University of Evansville (UE) and the University of Southern Indiana (USI) are pleased to announce a new partnership to provide USI students with direct-entry pathways into UE's Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs. This collaboration opens new opportunities for USI students to pursue advanced education and careers in health sciences through seamless transition programs at UE.

"We are thrilled to partner with USI to cultivate a strong pipeline of future health professionals," said Jeff Tilly, Professor and Chair of the Department of Athletic Training at UE. "This agreement not only strengthens the educational options for students in the Evansville community but also addresses the growing need for highly qualified professionals in the health sciences."

For both the MSAT and DPT programs, USI students in Exercise ScienceBiology and Pre-Medical Sciences Certificate (regardless of major) with a GPA of 3.5 or higher by the end of their sophomore year may apply. Students in the direct entry pathway must maintain a 3.5 overall GPA while completing their degree at USI. Students interested in the DPT pathway must complete the necessary science prerequisites with a 3.35 GPA. Both programs will accept a limited number of USI students each year based on academic performance and recommendations from USI faculty.

"At USI, we are excited about the direct entry pathways now available for our students," said Renee Frimming, Professor and Chair of Kinesiology and Sport at USI. "This collaboration reflects our commitment to supporting student success, not only during their time at USI but also as they transition into advanced programs and professional careers. We are truly appreciative of the expanded opportunities this brings to our students."

Both universities will work together to ensure ongoing program quality and consistency, enhancing student experiences and outcomes.

Congratulations

* Congratulations Nurse Anesthesia Class of 2026

We are thrilled to congratulate the Nurse Anesthesia Class of 2026 on their White Coat Ceremony, held on Friday November 8th. This milestone marks an important transition as they move from didactic learning to the hands-on experience of clinical rotations.

The White Coats were presented by the program's director, Dr. Melissa Eisenhauer, whose guidance and mentorship are a testament to the excellence we strive for. The donning of the white coat symbolizes not only the students growing expertise, but also their commitment to the values of professionalism, compassion, and ethical practice in patient care.

As our students take this significant step toward becoming future healthcare leaders, we celebrate their dedication and perseverance. The journey ahead will be both challenging and rewarding, and we are confident they will rise to the occasion with the same passion and determination they have shown thus far. Once again, congratulations to the class of 2026.

* UE men's soccer captures MVC Championship in overtime

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Evansville men’s soccer team was again the overtime victor in the postseason with a 3-2 win over #3 Bowling Green.

The Purple Aces ended the MVC Championship much like it began with an overtime victory on a road pitch. UE earned its second MVC Tournament title on Saturday night and for the first time in 28 years. Senior forward Kai Phillip (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago) and sophomore midfielder Baraka Tarleton (Andover, Minn. / Andover HS) were the two goal scorers for Evansville while the game-winning goal in the 99th minute was credited as a team goal.

“When you go down 2-1 in the first half you have to go search the game. Especially in a game like this, you don’t want to leave any cards on the table. You want to go all in,” said Head Coach Robbe Tarver following the win. “That’s what we did. We kept the pressure up. I thought we were very patient as the game went on and tried to find good moments because the win was tough trying to get it from behind.  We found our moment to score and continued it into overtime to win.”

For the second match in a row, it was a defensive battle to start the MVC Championship on Saturday. The first shot of the entire match was the Aces' first goal in the waning seconds of the 30th minute. Midway into the attacking third redshirt freshman midfielder Jacopo Fedrizzi (Giulia, Italy) found Phillip on the left side of the field. Phillip took the ball from the top of the 18 to the 12 before shooting it past the Falcons goalkeeper into the middle of the box.

But UE only held the lead for under four minutes as Bowling Green answered on a score that barely crossed the goal line. The Falcons' offensive pressure continued and they added a leading goal in the 40th minute on a shot from the right side of the penalty area. Evansville wasn’t able to answer in the final five minutes and headed into halftime trailing by one.

Bowling Green tested freshman goalkeeper Michal Mroz (Elk Grove, Ill. / Elk Grove HS) early in the second half with a close shot in the 52nd minute. Mroz made the save diving to the bottom left of the goal, spurring the Aces' offense. Fedrizzi had back-to-back shots that almost made it past Falcons' goalkeeper Brendan Graves in the 67th and 68th minutes. But it would be Tarleton who found the back of the net in the 79th minute to help send the game into overtime.

UE had a free kick just two feet from the corner that Fedrizzi placed right inside the goal box. A Bowling Green player bounced the ball to Graves, but Tarleton was able to head the rebound to the crossbar. The ball dropped from the crossbar to Tarleton’s feet where he buried the shot into the top of the net. Evansville had two more shots in the 90 minutes while the Falcons had the final one, but neither team found the game-winning goal in regulation.

Overtime was all Aces as they dominated possession and shots, not allowing Bowling Green a chance. Phillip had his second shot of the night early in the period that was blocked. Fedrizzi quickly found the ball for another shot that was saved by Graves. Neither team had much offense until the early seconds of the 99th minute when UE drew a corner kick on the right side. Fedrizzi took the kick and curved the ball almost to the goal line. A Falcon defender then knocked the ball into the net giving Evansville the game-winning goal right before the overtime period would have ended.

Kai Phillip was named the MVC Tournament MVP scoring two goals in three games and recording seven shots with four landing on goal. Three other Aces players were named to the MVC All-Tournament Team: midfielder Jacopo Fedrizzi, junior defender Nacho Garcia (Zaragoza, Spain), and freshman defender Martin Wurschmidt (Fram, Norway). Phillip, Garcia, and Wurschmidt all scored at least one goal in the tournament while Fedrizzi assisted on two goals.

Fedrizzi led UE in shots on Saturday with four and two on goal. Phillip, Tarleton, and graduate forward Sami Owusu (Denver / Dayton) all had two shots with one on goal each for Evansville’s 10 shots. The Aces outshot Bowling Green two to one while both teams had two corner kicks each.

UE will find out its first opponent of the NCAA Tournament on Monday afternoon during the Selection Show at 12 p.m. It will be Evansville’s first appearance in the NCAA postseason since 1996.

* UE women's basketball begins four game road swing at Lindenwood

The Purple Aces started their first winning streak of the season on Thursday night. UE beat the Southeast Missouri Redhawks by 15 points for their largest margin of victory this season. Evansville has continued its dominance at the free throw line through three games. The Aces are third in the country in both free throw attempts per game and free throws made per game. UE is averaging 30.7 attempts and 23.3 made free throws over 40 minutes.

Another area Evansville has had a strong start in on the floor is under the glass. The Aces have had three straight games with 40 or more rebounds. UE leads the MVC in rebound margin (+12.7), rebounds per game (45.3), and defensive rebounds per game (33.0).

Lindenwood will end a three-game homestand when UE comes to St. Charles on Monday evening. The Lions are in a similar spot as Evansville with a 2-1 record to start the 2024-25 season. Lindenwood recently picked up a 26-point win over NAIA Harris Stowe State and an eight-point win over fellow Valley school Bradley. Sophomore guard Gracy Wernli has been an offensive force for the Lions with a season-high 13 points against Harris-Stowe and is leading the Ohio Valley Conference in foul shooting at 100% with 10 makes.

Sophomore forward Maggie Hartwig had Evansville's best game under the glass in 12 years against the Redhawks. Hartwig recorded 20 rebounds in 36 minutes, a stat line not seen by the Aces since senior guard Briyana Blair had 20 against Bradley on Jan. 8, 2012.

Freshman guard Camryn Runner was named the first MVC Freshman of the Week for her first two collegiate performances. Runner averaged 34 minutes of playing time, 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and 1.5 blocks. She then added a team-leading 20-point and four-assist performance against SEMO while also adding nine rebounds, a steal, and a block. With another big performance for UE Runner will likely be in the running for the weekly award again on Monday.

* Cam Haffner sets career mark against Radford

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Junior Cam Haffner continued to roll, scoring a career-high 23 points to lead the University of Evansville men’s basketball team in Saturday’s contest against Radford.

After leading by as many as 22 in the first half and 18 at the break, the Purple Aces fell to the Highlanders by a final score of 92-81.  Evansville had it going from outside, tying the program record with 17 3-point makes.  Haffner hit six triples while Gabriel Pozzato and Josh Hughes hit four apiece.  Pozzato scored 20 for UE while Hughes finished with 19.  Leading Radford was Jarvis Moss, who posted 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting.

“This one stings.  Being up as much as we were at home, you have to win these types of games,” UE head coach David Ragland said after the game.  “We need to play a full 40 minutes and have not done that to this point.  We need to look in the mirror and get better individually and as a team.”

Radford opened with a long possession, grabbing three offensive rebounds before taking a 2-0 lead.  Evansville posted the next three with Gabriel Pozzato knocking down a triple.  After the Highlanders battled back to take 10-8 lead, the Aces kicked it into gear.  Over the next five minutes, UE went on an 11-0 run to take a 19-10 advantage.

Connor Turnbull scored four during the run while Tayshawn Comer capped it off with a triple.  On the defensive side, UE held Radford to 0-for-4 from the field while forcing four turnovers.  Kaia Berridge, Cam Haffner, and Josh Hughes added 3-pointers over the next three minutes to give Evansville a 31-15 lead with 8:46 left in the half.  Michael Day played a pivotal role during the rally, earning three assists that resulted in nine points.

A quick spurt by RU cut the deficit to 12 before the Aces flexed their muscle once again, doubling up the Highlanders at 44-22 inside of the 5-minute mark.  Hughes converted two more triples.  Over the final minutes, Radford closed slightly, making it a 50-32 game at the break.  Evansville’s outside shooting made the difference as UE knocked down 12 triples in 21 attempts.

Out of the half, the Highlanders came out hitting on all cylinders.  Hitting seven of their first nine attempts, Radford scored the first 16 points of the period to get within two points.  Evansville missed its first five attempts of the period while turning it over three times.  Josh Hughes ended the stretch with a triple.  Another three by Haffner made it a 56-48 game, but a tenacious Highlander squad continued to battle.

As the half approached its midway point, a flagrant foul turned out to be a 5-point possession as Radford knotted the game at 67-67.  Hughes was the hero once again, breaking the tie, however, the momentum did not last as a triple gave RU the lead with 7:31 remaining.  The teams swapped the lead four times over the next two minutes resulting in a 76-75 Highlander lead.

Holding a 78-76 advantage with 4:14 remaining, Radford scored eight in a row over the ensuing two minutes to go up 86-76.  Evansville was unable to overcome the deficit, falling by a 92-81 final.  Highlighting the comeback for Radford was a 22-for-27 (81.5%) effort from the field in the final 20 minutes as they finished the game shooting 63.6%.  UE finished at 50.0% while going 17-for-35 (48.6%) from long range.  RU wrapped the day up with a 29-24 edge on the glass.
