The University of Evansville's (UE) Lincoln Commons student housing apartment complex will soon welcome its first retail tenant, Qdoba, which is set to officially open on October 28. Orange Leaf is scheduled to open days later on November 1.

Located at the corner of Weinbach and Lincoln Avenues, Lincoln Commons is a four-story building offering modern living accommodations for approximately 123 junior and senior students. It opened its doors to students in August at the start of the Fall 2024 semester.

UE officials previously announced that both Qdoba, a fast-casual Mexican restaurant, and Orange Leaf, a self-serve frozen yogurt chain, would be the first tenants to occupy the 3,500 square feet of retail space on the lower level.

Qdoba will open its third location on the UE campus, adding to its existing spots on the East and West sides of the city. Meanwhile, Orange Leaf is expanding with a second location, complementing its current site on the East Side. The restaurant openings are expected to create approximately 30 new jobs, further strengthening the local economy.

* Aces women's soccer falls to UIC

CHICAGO – The University of Evansville women’s soccer team didn’t find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to the UIC Flames.

The Purple Aces defense kept 13 shots at bay through 90 minutes but a goal from UIC in the 76th minute handed UE its third loss of MVC play. Two veterans for Evansville led the way on offense as graduate defender Rachel Rosborough (Mt. Brydges, Ontario) and senior forward Hailey Autenrieb (Cincinnati / Seton HS) each put two shots on goal. Fifth-year goalkeeper Myia Danek (Laingsburg, Mich. / Laingsburg HS) made six saves in the loss.

The Flames controlled early action of Thursday night’s game with five shots in the first 15 minutes. The Aces had their first chance of the night in the 19th minute as junior defender Kaylee Woosley (Evansville, Ind. / North HS) shot just wide of the far post. It was a defensive battle for the rest of the first half as only two shots were taken in the last 20 minutes of the half.

It was a much quicker start in the second half as Autenrieb forced a diving save from UIC’s goalkeeper in the 47th minute. The Flames responded with five straight shots over the next 15 minutes. Danek made two major saves to keep the game scoreless during the offensive onslaught. But UIC broke through in the 76th minute as a shot from the top of the box made it into the top right corner of the net.

UE had two close chances in the following five minutes as both Rosborough and freshman defender Emmy Brenner (Arlington, Tenn. / St. Benedict at Auburndale HS) forced a jumping save and a diving save from Flames goalkeeper Francesca Faraci. Evansville had one final opportunity in the last four minutes as Autenrieb attacked the net a second time for a shot that was pushed up above the crossbar. The Aces couldn’t find the equalizer and dropped a close 1-0 match to UIC.

UE remains on the road for their next match over the weekend. Evansville will visit the Valparaiso Beacons on Sunday, October 13th. Kick-off from Brown Field on Sunday is set for 1 p.m.

* Maddie Rollett earns second MVC award of the fall

ST. LOUIS. – Maddie Rollett’s stellar start to the 2024-25 season continued on Wednesday as she was named the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Diver of the Week for the second time in as many weeks.

Rollett has been nearly perfect in the opening two weeks of the fall.  After sweeping both diving events at the Butler Double Dual, she accomplished the same feat at Centre College on Friday.

In the 1-meter dive, Rollett earned a score of 273.45.  That mark was high enough to qualify her for the NCAA Diving Zones.  She followed that up with a 252.90 in the 3-meter event, giving her another victory.

* UE women's soccer travels to Chicago for clash with UIC

UE women's soccer added another point to their resume in a 1-1 draw against Drake over the weekend. Junior forward Amy Velazquez (Avon, Ind. / Avon HS) scored the tying goal for the Aces in the 83rd minute of the match for her second goal of the season. Velazquez took the ball from a Bulldog defender up into the 12 and passed over to senor forward Hailey Autenrieb (Cincinnati / Seton HS) on the right side of the penalty box, who quickly returned it to Velazquez at the six. Velazquez struck the ball with her right foot and blew it past Drake's goalkeeper into the center of the net to help Evansville to another MVC point.

UIC is one of the Aces newer opponent in women's soccer as the two teams never faced each other prior to the Flames addition to the MVC in the 2022 season. Neither team has won on the road in the series since beginning play in 2022. The Aces will look to see if they can get the first road win and take the series lead on Thursday evening. Both games in the series have been decide by a single goal with only two goals tallied so far in two meetings.

The Flames come into Thursday's match as one of the conference's leaders with an MVC record of 3-0-2 after having seven losses in the non-conference season. UIC put together a big win over Indiana State on Tuesday with their highest scoring output of the season with three goals scored. It was the Flames fifth shutout of the year and their fifth game unbeaten in conference play. UIC is led by junior forward Riley Collett with eight points from three goals and two assists.

Velazquez is now tied with freshman defender Emmy Brenner (Arlington, Tenn. / St. Benedict at Auburndale HS) for most goals on the season with two each. Autenrieb and Velazquez are tied as the Aces total offensive leaders with five points. Autenrieb has one goal and three assists while Velazquez has two goals and one assist.
