* Lady Aces Fall to WKU in Opener

Amanda Buechel scored the first of two goals six minutes in as Western Kentucky cruised past the University of Evansville women’s soccer team by a 3-0 final in the season opener for both teams.Buechel took a pass from Courtney Rymer and found the back of the net at the 6:04 mark before doubling the Hilltopper lead 51:15 into the match on an unassisted goal.

Less than 20 minutes later, Nicholette Sartori sealed the win for WKU with a goal of her own as the HIlltoppers took the 3-0 win.  Nikki Hall made three saves in just over 77 minutes of work for WKU while Katlyn Barnes made a save in the final 12 minutes to combine for the shutout.

“In the beginning of the second half, we played the way that we have been trying to,” head coach Krista McKendree said.  “We created more corners and had multiple chances on goal.  We just need to come out prepared from the start of the match on Sunday (at Central Michigan).”

Evansville notched 11 shots with four being on goal.  Kayla Smith led the way with two shots on goal (three overall) while Stephanie Thompson tallied three.  Western Kentucky’s offense combined for 15 shots with seven being on goal.  Buechel had three shots, scoring twice on her attempts.

The Aces will look to bounce back on Sunday as they travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich.  to face the Chippewas at noon.

* Former Aces Earns MLS Save of the Week Honor

Former University of Evansville men’s soccer player Troy Perkins won the MLS Save of the Week Award for week 23 of play in a vote by the MLS website.Perkins, who plays for the Montreal Impact, stopped a header by New England’s Saer Sene on August 12th to be named the top play of the weekend.  Video of the extraordinary save can be found by clicking here.

For his effort, Perkins received 51.53% of the vote with Kevin Hartman’s play coming in second with 24.19% of the tally.

Perkins played for UE in 2003 after transferring to UE from the University of South Florida and finished the year with a goals against average of 1.09.

* Terry Scores Again as Aces Tie Badgers

Sophomore Dylan Terry notched his second goal in as many preseason games to help the University of Evansville men’s soccer team tie the University of Wisconsin, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon at Trine University.Freshman Nate Opperman made his presence known early on, registering a pair of shots before Terry opened up the scoring, tallying his goal seven minutes into the contest.  Faik Hajderovic and Brandon Causey notched the assists.  On Wednesday evening, Terry’s late score gave UE a win over the University of Indianapolis.

Evansville held the lead until the 80th minute when Jacob Brindle scored off of a corner kick with Chris Prince and AJ Cochran notching the assists.  The game remained scoreless from that point on as the squads settled for a tie following regulation.

The defense was once again key for the Aces, who gave up just one goal over 90 minutes of play in the preseason.  They will look for those efforts to continue when they begin the regular season on Friday evening against Lipscomb.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. following the women’s game against Saint Louis.  Both games this weekend will be featured free of charge on AcesTV.
