Amanda Buechel scored the first of two goals six minutes in as Western Kentucky cruised past the University of Evansville women’s soccer team by a 3-0 final in the season opener for both teams.Buechel took a pass from Courtney Rymer and found the back of the net at the 6:04 mark before doubling the Hilltopper lead 51:15 into the match on an unassisted goal.
Less than 20 minutes later, Nicholette Sartori sealed the win for WKU with a goal of her own as the HIlltoppers took the 3-0 win. Nikki Hall made three saves in just over 77 minutes of work for WKU while Katlyn Barnes made a save in the final 12 minutes to combine for the shutout.
“In the beginning of the second half, we played the way that we have been trying to,” head coach Krista McKendree said. “We created more corners and had multiple chances on goal. We just need to come out prepared from the start of the match on Sunday (at Central Michigan).”
Evansville notched 11 shots with four being on goal. Kayla Smith led the way with two shots on goal (three overall) while Stephanie Thompson tallied three. Western Kentucky’s offense combined for 15 shots with seven being on goal. Buechel had three shots, scoring twice on her attempts.
The Aces will look to bounce back on Sunday as they travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to face the Chippewas at noon.
