* New UE Policy Site Repository

The University is pleased to share a new centralized document storage location for all institutional policies. The new site, located at https://policies.evansville.edu, will serve as a comprehensive repository for all university policies, making it easier for everyone to access and reference important information. Policies can be located by office, constituency, and alphabetically, simplifying the search process. Users can also utilize keyword searching to quickly find specific policies or topics.

However, for this new repository to be successful, we need your help to populate it. We are calling on representatives from every area and department on campus to upload their policies to the site.

Please note that while we strive to include all university policies on the website, some policies may be documented in the Faculty Manual or Student Handbook rather than on the site itself.

All policies must be in PDF format and must be ADA Accessible to ensure they are usable by everyone in our community. Instructions for making policies ADA-compliant and uploading them are attached to this message.

We appreciate your cooperation in this effort to centralize and streamline our university policies. If you have any questions or need assistance with uploading your policies, please don't hesitate to reach out to Help@evansville.edu.

* UE Department of Art Receives $36,000 in Grants from the Efroymson Family Fund to Enhance Art Programs and Collections

The University of Evansville (UE) Department of Art has received $36,000 in grants from the Efroymson Family Fund to expand current programming and bolster the University's permanent art collections. This generous support, initiated by Jeremy Efroymson, marks a fruitful thirteen-year partnership that has significantly advanced the visual arts at UE.

The Efroymson Family Fund is dedicated to improving the quality of life in communities through support for cultural, educational, and community development initiatives. Their ongoing generosity has made them a vital partner in the advancement of arts and education at the University.

"The funding for the permanent collections has been a long time coming, so this is a blessing and a wonderful start to making it better," said Todd A. Matteson, Chair and Associate Professor of Art. "We are deeply grateful to the Efroymson Family Fund for their ongoing support. These grants will greatly impact our ability to nurture and showcase visual arts at UE for generations to come."

100 percent of the contributions are allocated to specific initiatives, thereby maximizing their impact and enabling the Department of Art to thrive. A bulk of the funding will enhance the permanent art collections housed in Krannert Hall of Art and Music since 1962. These funds will be used to upgrade storage facilities with new shelving and cabinets, establish a repair station for maintaining artwork, and install secure display cases and frame locks. This investment will ensure the proper preservation and safe exhibition of thousands of pieces from distinguished collections like the James Dicke, Karl Kae Knecht, and Merrill Snethen Collections, benefiting both the University and the broader community.

"The expansion and proper management of the permanent collections not only preserve the University's cultural heritage but also provide students with valuable educational resources and foster interdisciplinary collaborations," added Matteson. "The grant funding and ultimate initiative aligns with UE's commitment to enhancing its reputation and strengthening connections within the community."

* UE Women's Soccer Announces 2024 Schedule

Non-conference road matches at Louisville and Indiana, and home non-conference match-ups with reigning ASUN regular-season champion Lipscomb and regional rivals Lindenwood and UT Martin highlight the 2024 non-conference portion of the University of Evansville women’s soccer schedule, which was announced on Tuesday by head coach Chris Pfau.

Evansville will play two exhibition matches and six regular-season matches against opponents within a three-hour radius of campus in 2024.  Included in that eight-match set, though, are two matches against NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, as well as a match against a reigning conference regular-season champion.

The 2024 season will kick off with an exhibition match at SIUE on Wednesday, August 7, before the Purple Aces will play their lone home exhibition match of the season on Saturday, August 10 against NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 participant Saint Louis University (5 p.m.).  The Billikens went 19-3-2 a season ago, and were nationally-ranked for much of the season.

Evansville will then open the 2024 regular-season at home against reigning ASUN regular-season champion Lipscomb on Thursday, August 15 at 6 p.m.  The Bisons went 14-5-1 in 2023, including posting a 10-1-1 conference record to win the ASUN regular-season crown.

Ten days later, UE will hit the road to battle Western Kentucky in a non-conference contest on Sunday, August 25 at 6 p.m.  The Hilltoppers finished third in CUSA a year ago, and the two teams battled to a scoreless draw in 2023 in Evansville.

UE will then return home to Arad McCutchan Stadium to host Lindenwood on Thursday, August 29 at 6 p.m. before embarking on a grueling two-match road trip.  Evansville will first travel east to Atlantic Coast Conference member Louisville for a 6 p.m. central match-up on Sunday, September 1.  Then, UE will travel north four days later to renew its rivalry with 2023 NCAA Tournament participant Indiana on Thursday, September 5 (7 p.m. central start).

The non-conference portion of UE’s schedule will wrap up on Thursday, September 12 at 6 p.m. with a non-conference contest with Ohio Valley Conference member UT Martin.  The match will be UE’s “Senior Day,” as UE will honor its senior class that night.  Evansville will then kick off Missouri Valley Conference play on the road on Thursday, September 19 with a 6:30 p.m. contest against Belmont.

UE will square off with Murray State on Sunday, September 22 at 1 p.m. in the Purple Aces’ first home MVC contest of the year.  The Murray State match will be part of “Alumni Weekend” for the UE program, as Evansville will welcome back alums from various points in the program’s history that day. The Purple Aces will also be out for revenge for last year’s 1-0 MVC Tournament loss suffered at the hands of the Racers in the 2023 Valley Tournament.

The month of September will conclude with UE’s final MVC regular-season contest at Missouri State on Thursday, September 26, as the Bears will be playing their final season in the Valley this year.  UE, Missouri State and Illinois State are the only conference members to have played every season of MVC women’s soccer since its inception in 1996.

October opens with a tough two-match homestand on Thursday, October 3 and Sunday, October 6 against UNI (6 p.m.) and reigning MVC regular-season champion Drake (1 p.m.).  The Purple Aces will then hit the road for a match at UIC on Thursday, October 10 before battling 2023 MVC Tournament champion Valparaiso on Sunday, October 13 at 1 p.m. in Valparaiso, Indiana.

UE concludes the regular-season with two of its final three matches at home, with home contests against Illinois State (Thursday, October 17 – 6 p.m.) and Southern Illinois (Sunday, October 27 – 12 p.m.) sandwiched around a road trip to Indiana State (Sunday, October 20 – 1 p.m. central).  The 2024 MVC Tournament will kick off on Halloween with first-round matches, and continue with quarterfinal matches on November 3, semifinal matches on November 7, and the MVC Tournament final on Sunday, November 10.

The Purple Aces return 21 players from last season’s squad which advanced to the MVC Tournament quarterfinals, led by reigning second-team all-MVC defender Rachel Rosborough (Mt. Brydges, Ontario/Strathroy District C.I.).  Season tickets for the 2024 season are currently available from the UE Athletic Ticket Office by contacting Logan Belz by phone at 812-488-2623.  Adult season tickets begin at $50, with youth season tickets available for $20.

* UE Baseball Nationally-Ranked In Final Collegiate Baseball Polls

The University of Evansville baseball team found itself nationally-ranked in all five major national collegiate baseball polls on Wednesday, after the final polls were released.

Here’s a look at where UE ranked in the various polls:

-- 11th in the Perfect Game Top 25

-- 15th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 25

-- 16th in the D1Baseball.com Top 25 (main poll used by media)

-- 23rd in the Baseball America Top 25

-- 23rd in the USA Today/Coaches Top 25

The No. 16 ranking in the D1Baseball.com Top 25 marks UE’s highest season-ending finish in the main media poll in program history at the Division I level.

Evansville finished the 2024 season with a 39-26 overall record.  The Purple Aces swept all four games in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament to claim the MVC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.  UE then won the program’s first-ever NCAA Regional Tournament title by winning the Greenville (N.C.) Regional to advance to the program’s first-ever NCAA Super Regional.  In the Knoxville Super Regional, Evansville pushed the No. 1 national seed, Tennessee, to the brink of elimination, as the Purple Aces forced the ‘if necessary’ game three with a 10-8 victory over the Volunteers.  It was one of only two losses that Tennessee suffered in the NCAA Tournament on its way to the 2024 national championship.

* 2024 schedule released for UE men's soccer

The University of Evansville men’s soccer program has announced its 2024 schedule.

The 17-game regular season schedule for the Purple Aces will give them plenty of strong tests as they face six teams who appeared in the 2023 NCAA tournament. Of those six teams, one Western Michigan, made the Sweet 16, while the other, Indiana made the Elite Eight.

UE will preface the season with three preseason matches, two DI opponents who appeared in the NCAA tournament, and a perennial DIII regional power. Evansville hosts former Missouri Valley Conference-foe, SIUE, on August 10th. The Aces will renew an old Midwest Collegiate Conference rivalry with St. Louis at Robert R. Hermann Stadium on August 16th. UE finishes its preseason slate with a home match on August 19th against Hanover as part of Welcome Week for new Evansville students.

For the fourth straight season, the Aces begin the regular season at Bellarmine in Louisville, Ky. UE will be looking for its first result against the Knights since 2021 after back-to-back draws in 2022 and 2023. Evansville will stay on the road, traveling to Memphis for their first matchup in over a decade on August 25th. The Aces won their last match against the Tigers in 2011 with a 2-1 result. Memphis has had recent success, with back-to-back postseason appearances.

For their first home match of the regular season, UE will host the Mayor’s Cup against Southern Indiana on Sunday, September 1st. Evansville will celebrate its 50th Anniversary as a program Labor Day weekend. The weekend will begin with an Alumni Game on August 31st at Arad McCutchan Stadium, followed by an alumni banquet that evening. Anniversary festivities will wrap up with the latest edition of the Mayor’s Cup on Sunday. The Aces put together a decisive victory in 2023’s game with a 4-0 shutout at USI.

UE hosts one more game before hitting the road again. Evansville welcomes its second OVC opponent to Arad McCutchan Stadium on September 4th against Eastern Illinois. Evansville last played EIU in 2019, winning 1-0 at home.

The Aces play their final OVC opponent on September 6th on the road at Lindenwood. Last year’s match finished in a 2-2 draw in Evansville. UE continues its week road swing with a stop in Indianapolis on September 10th. The Aces will play Butler for the first time since 2019. The Bulldogs currently hold the all-time series record at 9-6-1.

Evansville starts conference play on September 14th by hosting the Drake Bulldogs. The Aces have won 3 out of the last 4 meetings with the Bulldogs, but Drake won last year’s match 2-1 on their home turf in Des Moines.

UE hits the road again for two weeks, traveling up I-69 to play Big Ten foe, Indiana. The Hoosiers appeared in the 2023 Elite 8 and defeated the Aces 2-0 in their last meeting. Evansville resumes conference play on the road for their first trip to Western Michigan since 1982 on September 22nd. In a hotly contested 2023 matchup, the Aces tied the eventual Sweet Sixteen Broncos 2-2 for WMU’s only conference draw of the season.

UE’s third road matchup is another team to make the 2023 postseason as Evansville faces Xavier on September 24th. The Musketeers defeated the Aces 3-1 in Evansville during their last match in the 2022 season. The fourth and final game of the road swing for UE will be a return to Valley play against Bradley on September 28th. The Aces defeated Bradley 1-0 at home last season.

After two weeks away, Evansville returns to Arad McCutchan Stadium against UIC. It will be the Flames first match as a member of the MVC in Southern Indiana after winning the Chicago matchup in 2023. Less than a week later, the Aces return to the road at Louisville as the Cardinals had another deep postseason run in 2023. Louisville bested UE 2-0 in Evansville last year in a closely contested match.

UE will play its first match in DeKalb against Northern Illinois on October 19th. Last fall, the Aces defeated the Huskies 2-0 in their first conference meeting in Evansville. UE finishes the month of October with its Senior Day game on October 25th hosting Bowling Green State. The Aces will celebrate 11 seniors in their second-to-last game at home.

Rounding out regular season play, Evansville will travel to Missouri State for the final time as MVC foes on November 1st. The Bears held on for a 2-1 win at UE in 2023 with a last-second save on All-MVC First Team forward Kai Phillip. The Aces finish conference play on November 6th at home against the Belmont Bruins. Three out of the last 4 contests between the two teams have ended in a draw, including last year’s 2-2 result.

Of the nine MVC teams, only six will make the MVC Tournament. Postseason play will begin with the quarterfinals at host sites on November 10th. The semifinals and finals will be hosted by the #1 seed and will take place on November 13th and November 16th.

* UE's Shallenberger Earns Second-Team All-America Honors From D1Baseball.com

University of Evansville graduate outfielder Mark Shallenberger (St. Louis, Mo./Priory) earned his second All-America honor of the 2024 season on Wednesday morning, as he was named Second-Team All-America by D1Baseball.com.  Shallenberger is the first Purple Ace to earn multiple All-America honors in the same season since Kevin Kaczmarski in 2015.

Shallenberger also captured American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Third-Team All-America honors in a vote of collegiate head coaches earlier in June.  D1Baseball.com is considered by many as the top on-line website focused on collegiate baseball.

Shallenberger earned All-America honors after a season in which he earned first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference honors and Greenville (N.C.) Regional All-Tournament team honors for the Purple Aces.  He finished the 2024 season ranked in the NCAA’s Top 100 in 11 different offensive categories, including ranking 13th nationally in on-base percentage, a category he has ranked among the nation’s top 25 in for much of the season.  Shallenberger set program records for both runs scored (72) and hit-by-pitches (28), while posting the second-highest single-season hit total in UE history with 91.

Overall, Shallenberger hit a team-best .374 with a team-high 21 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs and 64 RBI.  He hit arguably the biggest home run in UE baseball history with a game-winning three-run home run in UE’s 6-5 victory over East Carolina to win the Greenville (N.C.) Regional and advance Evansville to its first-ever NCAA Tournament Super Regional appearance.

Shallenberger now joins an elite fraternity of UE players to earn multiple All-America honors in the same season.  Shallenberger joins a list that includes only Andy Benes (1988), Cody Fick (2011), Kyle Freeland (2014), and Kevin Kaczmarski (2015) as the only UE players to earn All-America honors from multiple publications or groups in the same season.

Evansville went 39-26 this season, advancing on to the 2024 NCAA Tournament by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title.  The Purple Aces won the Greenville (N.C.) Regional Tournament and forced #1 national seed Tennessee to the “if necessary” game three of the Knoxville Super Regional in UE’s first-ever NCAA Super Regional Tournament appearance.
