* New UE Policy Site Repository

The University is pleased to share a new centralized document storage location for all institutional policies. The new site, located at https://policies.evansville.edu, will serve as a comprehensive repository for all university policies, making it easier for everyone to access and reference important information. Policies can be located by office, constituency, and alphabetically, simplifying the search process. Users can also utilize keyword searching to quickly find specific policies or topics.

However, for this new repository to be successful, we need your help to populate it. We are calling on representatives from every area and department on campus to upload their policies to the site.

Please note that while we strive to include all university policies on the website, some policies may be documented in the Faculty Manual or Student Handbook rather than on the site itself.

All policies must be in PDF format and must be ADA Accessible to ensure they are usable by everyone in our community. Instructions for making policies ADA-compliant and uploading them are attached to this message.

We appreciate your cooperation in this effort to centralize and streamline our university policies. If you have any questions or need assistance with uploading your policies, please don't hesitate to reach out to Help@evansville.edu.

* UE's Deverman Earns MVC Freshman Of The Year; Four Aces Named All-Valley

University of Evansville freshman pitcher Kenton Deverman headlined a quartet of Purple Aces who earned all-Missouri Valley Conference honors on Monday night at the MVC Tournament banquet, as Deverman captured the league’s Freshman of the Year Award.  He is the second Purple Ace to earn the honor, joining former UE standout Eric Stamets.

Deverman captured the MVC Freshman of the Year award and earned first-team all-Valley honors.  He was joined on the MVC’s all-conference first team by graduate outfielder Mark Shallenberger.  Senior outfielder Kip Fougerousse and senior pitcher Shane Harris both captured honorable mention all-MVC honors as well.

Deverman was named the Valley’s Freshman of the Year after going ranking fourth in the nation in victories among freshmen with seven, while leading the league in both ERA (3.53) and innings pitched (89.1).  He went a perfect 5-0 in Valley play, and he left the mound with the lead in all nine MVC starts this year.

Shallenberger, meanwhile, earned first team all-Valley honors and was tied for second in the voting for MVC Player of the Year after ranking among the Valley’s top 10 in ten different offensive categories.  Shallenberger will bring a team-best .382 batting average, 15 home runs and 55 RBI into this week’s MVC Tournament, which will be hosted at UE’s German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium.

Fougerousse captured honorable mention all-MVC honors for a year in which he hit .336 with 18 doubles, 14 home runs and 49 RBI.  It marks the second-straight year in which he was named all-MVC, as he earned first-team all-Valley honors last year at second base.  Harris garnered honorable mention all-Valley honors after tying for third in the league with six victories, and ranking fourth overall with a 3.84 ERA.  Harris held opposing batters to just a .236 batting average against, while striking out a career-high 60 men.

Evansville will bring a 31-23 overall record into this week’s MVC Tournament.  The tournament will officially begin on Tuesday afternoon at German American Bank Field, as No. 5 UIC will battle No. 8 Missouri State at 2:30 p.m. and No. 6 Southern Illinois will square off with No. 7 Belmont at 6 p.m.  UE’s MVC Tournament trek will begin on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. against No. 4 Illinois State.  Tickets for the MVC Tournament are available on-line at GoPurpleAces.com under the ticket link, or by phone by calling Logan Belz in the UE Athletic Ticket Office by phone at 812-488-2623.

* Freeland Family Donates $3 Million To UE Baseball Program

The University of Evansville (UE) is elated to announce that Kyle ’15 and Ashley ’15 Freeland have generously contributed approximately $3 million to facilitate the establishment of a baseball clubhouse for the University which will be known as The Freeland Clubhouse. This is believed to be the largest gift in UE Athletics history. The Freeland’s philanthropic gesture will serve as the cornerstone for the initiation of the clubhouse project, a pivotal component of UE's comprehensive athletics strategic plan, Pathway to Excellence.

Head Baseball Coach Wes Carroll has diligently cultivated a culture of excellence within UE’s baseball program. In a resounding testament to their unwavering support for Coach Carroll's strategic vision for the future of UE Men’s Baseball, the Freeland’s have earmarked this gift for the construction of the new facility which will be situated close to the German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium. The facility will include a locker room, offices for coaching staff, and space for a lounge. It is slated to be completed sometime in Summer 2025.

Kyle Freeland, a distinguished pitcher for the Colorado Rockies, honed his skills as a member of the UE Baseball team before being drafted in 2014. Meanwhile, his wife, Ashley Freeland, herself a former student-athlete at UE, attained her Bachelor of Science in Sport Management in 2015.

“It's truly an honor for myself and my wife Ashley to be able to give back to the University of Evansville and support this baseball program into the future. I owe so much of my development as a baseball player and a person to my time at UE and Coach Wes Carroll, and this felt like the most fitting way for me to say thank you,” said Kyle Freeland ’15. “This program has built and sustained success for many years, and our goal with this gift to the baseball program is to help build on that momentum, create a team-oriented environment that helps Evansville baseball players realize their true potential as students and athletes, and continue to boost recruiting. We’re already excited to cut that ribbon and see the future of Purple Aces baseball.”

At a Monday morning press conference, Director of Athletics Dr. Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried said it was very clear that Coach Carroll made a difference in the life of Kyle Freeland and the family has decided to extend that influence by supporting future Aces.

“Aces Baseball is on the rise, and this transformational gift by Kyle and Ashley Freeland further accelerates our success in the Missouri Valley Conference and nationwide. I have always stated that we are a sleeping giant at the University of Evansville. A big part of that is the fact that we have Purple Aces like Kyle and Ashley Freeland who are willing to invest in our future,” said Dr. Siegfried. “I am so happy for Coach Wes Carroll and our UE Baseball program. Coach Carroll embodies what it means to be a Purple Ace. He has set the vision for the future of the UE Baseball program, and at the center of that vision has been a focus on our student-athletes.”

* Flames Rally For 5-4 Win Over Baseball Aces

After being held in check nearly all game long on Thursday night, the visiting UIC Flames rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth inning and one in the tenth to grab a 5-4 victory over the host University of Evansville baseball team at German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium in Evansville.

UE freshman starter Kenton Deverman and sophomore reliever Max Hansmann combined to limit the Flames to just two runs on three hits, all in the fourth inning, before UIC rallied to tie the game in the ninth inning.

With UE leading 4-2 going to the ninth inning, back-to-back singles by catcher Jackson Bessette and Kendall Ewell opened the frame for UIC.  Then, after a sacrifice bunt, a sacrifice fly brought UIC back within a run at 4-3.  A walk put runners on the corners with two out, before outfielder Rayth Petersen tied the game at 4-4 with an RBI single to center field.

After UE was retired in order by reliever Zack Millsap (3-0) in the bottom of the ninth inning, UIC got an RBI double by Bessette off the wall in right field in the tenth inning to take a 5-4 lead.  UIC closer Reece Lawler then worked around a one-out walk to post a scoreless tenth inning to record his 12th save of the season.

The loss spoiled a stellar outing by UE freshman pitcher Kenton Deverman.  Deverman allowed only four base runners in 7.0 innings of work, with three of them coming in the fourth inning when the Flames strung together three two-out hits to score a pair of runs.  Outside of that, Deverman retired 21 of the other 22 men he faced in order, with the lone other runner reaching base on a UE error.  Deverman recorded nine strikeouts and did not walk a batter in the outing.

UE scored first in the third inning on a lead-off double by graduate catcher Brendan Hord, a single by junior designated hitter Evan Waggoner, and an RBI double by senior shortstop Simon Scherry.

After UIC took a brief 2-1 lead against Deverman in the fourth inning, Evansville answered back with two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI fielder’s choice by senior first baseman Kip Fougerousse and an RBI single by junior second baseman Cal McGinnis.  UE would add a run on an RBI single by graduate third baseman Brent Widder in the seventh inning to take a 4-2 lead.  The game would remain 4-2 until the ninth, when UIC rallied.

McGinnis and Scherry both had three-hit nights for UE, while Waggoner added a pair of hits as well.  Evansville out-hit UIC, 12-8, but the Purple Aces also stranded 12 runners on base.

With the victory, UIC moves into sole possession of second place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings with a 33-16 overall record and 16-9 Valley mark.  Evansville, meanwhile, falls into a tie with Murray State for third place with a 29-23 overall record and 15-10 MVC mark.  The series will continue on Friday night at 6 p.m. with graduate LHP Donovan Schultz (3-2, 6.31 ERA) scheduled to get the start for UE.  Friday’s game can be seen live on ESPN+ and heard live in the Tri-State area on 107.1 FM-WJPS.

* Baseball Aces Cruise Past Flames, 8-2, On "Senior Day"

The University of Evansville baseball team used a pair of three-run innings on Saturday to cruise past the visiting UIC Flames, 8-2, on “Senior Day” at German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium in Evansville, Indiana.

“What a good way to close out this regular-season!” said UE head coach Wes Carroll.  “On the mound, we had a freshman in Kevin Reed really step up and give us a chance today on ‘Senior Day,’ and then our offense was finally able to put up some crooked numbers there in the middle of the game to take control of things.

“I am really proud of how we have played the last two months of the season, and have captured this momentum going into the conference tournament.”

Reed (5-1) was sharp early, as he held UIC to just one hit through the first four innings, as he was locked in a scoreless pitcher’s duel through four innings.  The Flames would finally score a run on a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly against Reed in the fifth inning, but his teammates would answer right back to give him the run support needed to win.

An infield single by junior outfielder Ty Rumsey, a walk and a double-steal put two men into scoring position to open the fifth inning for UE.  Rumsey would score on a fielder’s choice ground ball to tie the game at 1-1.  Then, two batters later, graduate outfielder Mark Shallenberger doubled off the left-field wall and senior designated hitter Kip Fougerousse launched a two-run home run to left field to give UE a 3-1 lead.

Sophomore reliever Max Hansmann pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings, while UE tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take control of the contest.  Junior outfielder Ty Rumsey opened the scoring with a one-out RBI single through the right side of the UIC infield.  Freshman second baseman Brodie Peart then followed with a two-run single to center field to give UE a 6-1 lead.

UE would score two more runs in the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk by Peart and an RBI single by senior shortstop Simon Scherry to move the advantage to 8-1.  The Flames would get a run back in the eighth inning, but graduate reliever Jace Kressin came out of the UE bullpen to record the final five outs in order to nail down the victory for UE.

Fougerousse, Rumsey and junior outfielder Harrison Taubert all had two-hit performances for UE.  Peart added three RBI, while Scherry drove in a pair of runs as well.

With the victory, Evansville finishes the regular season with a 31-23 overall record and 17-10 Missouri Valley Conference mark.  UE finished in a tie for second-place, and the Purple Aces will be the No. 3 seed in this week’s MVC Tournament which will be hosted at UE’s German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium.  The tournament will officially begin on Tuesday with games at 2:30 and 6 p.m., while UE’s first game in the tournament will come at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, as the Purple Aces will face No. 4 seed Illinois State.  Tickets for the MVC Tournament can be purchased on-line at GoPurpleAces.com under the tickets link, or by phone by calling Logan Belz in the UE Athletic Ticket Office at 812-488-2623.
