* Women's Soccer Picks Up 2-1 Win Over Austin Peay

Women’s soccer opened up the 2012-13 University of Evansville athletics schedule with an impressive 2-1 win of Austin Peay in exhibition action on Wednesday evening.Abby Springer scored both goals for the Aces while recording five shots.  In a solid offensive effort, Evansville outshot the Governors, 11-7.  Each squad had four shots on goal.

Action got off to an early start as Abby Spring scored a breakaway goal with help from Taylor Brand and Olivia Robinson to give the Aces an early edge.  The goal came less than three minutes into the game.

Evansville had a chance to go up 2-0 just over 15 minutes into the match as Stephanie Thompson made a move on Austin Peay goalie Nikki Filippone to have a clear path at the net, but with APSU defenders all over her, Thompson hit the post on a close shot.

The Aces continued to lead 1-0 before doubling the advantage three minutes into the second stanza.  Kasey Cartwright found Springer, who did not miss from close range to give UE a 2-0 advantage and record her second goal of the night.

Springer nearly struck again with 30 minutes left in the contest as she had a breakaway that Filippone saved at the numbers.

The offense was quiet until about five minutes remaining when Austin Peay got on the board when Andy Quiceno scored on a shot to the top right.

Fresh off of the win over the Governors, the Aces will be right back in action on Saturday, welcoming Morehead State to McCutchan Stadium at 1 p.m.
