First created by a UE alumnus, “Pep and Vim,” UE’s Annual Day of Giving, was brought to life in 2012. We shouted our school spirit from the rooftops, and we were honored that the Aces community responded to our first Pep and Vim by making 250 philanthropic gifts that totaled over $5,000.

Flash forward to April 2022, Pep and Vim’s 10-year anniversary, and you can see how UE’s Day of Giving has grown over the last decade. Over 2,000 gifts were made to the university, totaling over $400,000. Gifts came in from 44 states, providing opportunities for growth within all 3 academic colleges on campus, as well as for Harlaxton College and UE Athletics.

Peterson Literary Forum and Hemminger-Brown Lecture kicks off on Friday night at 7pm in Soba 162 with guest speaker Dr. Vanessa Rapatz speaking on Shakespeare's Histories and Netflix's The Crown and is followed by UE student presentations on Saturday morning on the second floor of the Schroeder School of Business Building. UE’s environmental, health and safety manager would like to let the UE Community know about the 2023 Tox Away Day planned for Saturday, April 8. The event is from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Civic Center parking lot (Ninth and Walnut). This program is for Vanderburgh County households only. Help dispose of hazardous materials properly, so they don’t end up entering local streams and rivers.

Items accepted include oil-based paint, solvents & thinners, pesticides, herbicides, household chemicals, motor oil, antifreeze, gasoline, auto batteries and fluids, smoke detectors, fluorescent tube lights, fire extinguishers and pharmaceuticals at this free disposal program.

Gregory S. Fehribach
Gregory S. Fehribach of Indianapolis, Indiana is principal of the Fehribach Group, a consulting firm specializing in accessibility, universal design, and compliance with the ADA that he founded in 1995. He is of counsel to the firm of Tuohy, Bailey, & Moore, LLP in Indianapolis and has practiced law for the past 30 years. Since 1988, Fehribach has served as a panel trustee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Indiana. In 2009, he was designated a Distinguished Fellow at Ball State University where he established The Disability Project, which was renamed the Gregory S. Fehribach Center on July 25th, 2019. Fehribach has served on the Ball State University Board of Trustees, the Indiana Governor’s Planning Council for People with Disabilities, the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation, and the Marion County Health and Hospital Corporation Board of Trustees. He received a bachelor’s degree and a master of arts degree from Ball State University and a law degree from Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law.

The Thyen-Clark Cultural Center in Jasper, Indiana, hosts Professor Todd Matteson's solo exhibition, Life's Adventures. The exhibition runs for three months with a gallery talk every first Thursday in March and April. Professor Matteson will also be doing demonstrations to the public and local schools during his exhibition. Please come enjoy his ceramics and catch a glimpse at his new creations.

Barn Blitz is an event where UE students team up with the local Habitat chapter to build yard barns for community members who have received Habitat homes.

This year’s Barn Blitz will take place on April 22nd at 9:00am in the parking lot behind the Evansville Habitat for Humanity (560 E Diamond Ave. Evansville, IN). Our goal is to have 20 teams, each made up of 6-8 people, so that we can build 20 barns.

Family, friends and loved ones of the late Dr. Marvin E. Hartig are pleased to announce the application process for the Dr. Marvin E. Hartig Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is dedicated to the loving memory of Dr. Hartig, Dean of Evansville College’s Evening College in 1967, and administrator for the Center for Advanced Study, director of the Evansville chapter of the American Institute of Banking (AIB), and the international student advisor. In 1974, Dr. Hartig was appointed Dean of Academic Services. He retired in 1984 after serving his alma mater for thirty-five years and passed away in 2007.

This scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving sophomore student. Preference will be given to a student working while being enrolled as a full-time student. International students are encouraged to apply.
Eligible students for the 2023-2024 Hartig Memorial Scholarship will be sophomores in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Associate Professor of Sociology, Dr. Mari Plikuhn, and 4 outstanding alumnae, Ayrlia Welch (SOC '19), Elizabeth Long (SOC/PSYC '15), Sarah Akins (SOC '14), and Chelsea Clifton (SOC '14) published their article "Bridging the Gap: Young Adults Perceptions of Aging" in the peer reviewed journal, International Social Science Review. This article used survey data from college students to analyze the perceptions of young adults on aging and older adults. In this study, participants perceived women as entering older adulthood before men, however, overall beliefs and stereotypes produced mostly positive conclusions about older adults. Further, despite the perceptions that young adults had of the aging population and process, college-age participants held a more positive association with their personal aging process.

It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic passing of 2009 graduate Morgan Stankey. Morgan was an outstanding and beloved student at UE, majoring in History and Political Science. She is survived by her mother Michelle, her father Dr Michael Stankey, and her stepfather Dr Stuart Dorsey, as well as her sisters Gretchen and Rachael. There will be a memorial service at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 5130 Lincoln Avenue, on April 6 at 11am, to which all her friends in the University community are invited.

With two out of three rounds complete at the Western Illinois University Invite, Henry Kiel and Masatoyo Kato lead the University of Evansville men’s golf team.

Kiel and Kato completed Monday’s two rounds at TPC Deere Run with scores of 150.  Kiel opened the day with a 1-over 73 before carding a 77 in the second 18.  Kato started the day with a 78 before lowering his score by six strokes in round two.  His even 72 was the low round of the day for the Purple Aces.  Both are tied for 15th.

Nicholas Gushrowski and Michael Ikejiani rank in a tie for 18th place with scores of 151.  Gushrowski opened play with a 77 before recording a 2-over 74 in the second round of the day.  Ikejiani registered a 75 in the first round and followed that up with a 76.  Caleb Wassmer completed the day with scores of 77 and 81.  His 158 is tied for 41st place.

Luke Schneider is competing as an individual and wrapped up the afternoon with a 2-round score of 167.

Evansville is in sixth place on the team side with a 601.  The Aces trail Western Illinois by three strokes while Omaha and Northern Iowa are tied for third with a 595.  South Dakota and St. Thomas are tied for the3 lead with scores of 589.

Hunter Rebrovich (South Dakota), Matthew Armstrong (St. Thomas) and Carter Doose (Omaha – individual) are tied for the individual lead with tallies of 142.

The third and final round will get under way on Tuesday morning.

In the first of three regular-season games, the University of Evansville softball team travels to Indiana State on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. contest.

With an impressive 3-1 victory over Belmont on Sunday, the Purple Aces clinched the weekend series.  The win saw UE even its season record at 17-17 while improving to 3-6 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

In a week that was highlighted by two home runs in Sunday’s doubleheader against Belmont, Jenna Nink batted .429 while picking up four RBI and three runs.  Tuesday’s opener at Lindenwood saw her go 2-2 with two RBI, a run and walk.  Nink added her second walk of the week in game two of the doubleheader against the Lions.  After recording a double in Saturday’s series opener versus Belmont, Nink combined to go 3-for-6 in Sunday’s doubleheader.  She opened with a 2-3 performance with a solo home run.  Game two saw her go 1-3 with another home run as the Purple Aces clinched the weekend series.

The MVC ERA leader lowered her number even more with another exceptional week.  Brenton pitched a total of 13 1/3 innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out 15 batters.  She recorded a win and save over the course of the week.  She made the start in the second game at Lindenwood and allowed one run on two hits in four innings.  Saturday’s series opener against Belmont saw her throw six scoreless frames of relief as the Purple Aces rallied to take the win.  She gave up just three hits while striking out nine.  Brenton recorded a strikeout in the lone batter she faced in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader before throwing three more innings of scoreless relief.  She struck out four batters while allowing one hit on the way to her third save of the season.

Jess Willsey batted .294 while registering four runs and three RBI over a 5-game week for the Purple Aces.  Her top performance came in game one of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Lindenwood as she went 3-5 with three runs scored while adding an RBI and triple.  The second contest on Tuesday saw her go 1-3 with a home run.  In game two of Sunday’s doubleheader versus Belmont, Willsey went 1-3 with an RBI as the Aces clinched the weekend series.

Entering the weekend series against Belmont, Marah Wood was hitting .202 with one home run and 11 RBI.  Saturday’s contest against the Bruins featured a 3-4 performance with two RBI, two doubles, a run, walk and stolen base.  Wood hit her second home run of the season in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader while picking up two more RBI.  In the finale, she earned another hit and walk as she raised her batting average by 27 points with a 5-for-11 weekend.

Indiana State holds an identical 17-17 record while going 6-3 in the Valley.  Over the weekend, the Sycamores dropped all three games of their series at Southern Illinois.

The University of Evansville baseball team will try to get back on the winning side of the ledger on Tuesday night, as the Purple Aces will travel north to West Lafayette, Indiana to close out a three-game home-and-home series with the Purdue Boilermakers. First-pitch is set for 5 p.m. and Tuesday’s game can be seen live on the Big Ten Network Plus, and heard live on 107.1 FM-WJPS and the Old National Bank/Purple Aces Sports Network from Learfield.

Evansville will bring a 16-11 overall record into Tuesday night’s game. After seeing a nine-game winning streak snapped last Wednesday against Southeast Missouri State, the Purple Aces were swept in a three-game home series by the Belmont Bruins over the weekend. The four-game home losing streak is the longest in the history of German American Bank Field, after the playing surface at Charles H. Braun Stadium was renovated in 2020.

Despite dropping four-straight, Evansville will enter Tuesday night’s game at Purdue (12-14) owning the nation’s longest road winning streak, as the Purple Aces have won seven-straight away from Evansville. UE is currently tied with Florida for the nation’s longest road winning streak, and the Purple Aces have not lost on the road since a 2-0 loss at Middle Tennessee State on March 10.

Fifth-year first baseman Chase Hug continues to lead the UE offense with a .396 average, but Hug saw a 32-game on-base streak snapped in Sunday’s series finale against Belmont. Junior shortstop Simon Scherry is second on the team in hitting at .311, after a four-hit effort in the finale against Belmont, and fifth-year outfielder Eric Roberts still leads the Missouri Valley Conference in both home runs and RBI with 12 and 35, respectively. Roberts is one of only three players in NCAA Division I baseball to currently have double-digit totals for home runs and stolen bases, as he joins North Carolina’s Mac Horvath and Maryland’s Matthew Shaw in that elite group.

Purdue will bring a 12-14 overall record into Tuesday night’s game after winning two out of three games from Northwestern over the weekend. The Boilermakers received a walk-off solo home run in the 10th inning by junior DH Lukas Cook to win the series finale, 4-3, on Sunday. Fifth-year infielder Evan Albrecht leads Purdue with a .362 average, while redshirt-junior infielder Paul Toetz boasts a .337 average and a team-leading eight home runs and 35 RBI.

Evansville won two games from Purdue by scores of 5-2 and 6-4 over St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Evansville. The third contest that was scheduled was canceled due to cold weather. UE has won six-straight games against Big Ten competition heading into Tuesday’s contest.

With an even score of 72 in the final round, University of Evansville freshman Kate Petrova was the individual tournament champion at the Indiana State Invitational.

After leading the field following Sunday’s opening round with a 1-under 71, Petrova continued to be locked in as she carded an even 72 in Monday’s final round at the Country Club of Terre Haute.  Her final total of 143 came in four strokes ahead of the field.  Petrova recorded the low round on both days of the tournament.

Petrova and her teammates combined for a score of 312 on Monday to come in second place with a 623.  Green Bay pulled away to take the team victory, notching a tournament-low 297 in the second round to finish with a 601.

Allison Enchelmayer was second on the Purple Aces team.  After opening play with a 77 on Sunday, Enchelmayer improved by a stroke in the last round.  Her 76 gave her a total of 153, which tied her for the 8th position.

Also earning a top 15 finish was Mallory Russell.  She was the second Evansville player to lower her score in round two.  Following an 80 in the first 18, Russell completed Monday with a 79.  Her 159 put her in 15th.

Alyssa McMinn carded an 85 in the second round.  Her final tally of 168 saw her finish 30th while Caitlin O’Donnell was one stroke behind her.  With a 169, O’Donnell tied for 31st.

Carly Frazier tied for 13th overall while matching Green Bay’s Ellie Frisch as the second-highest individual.  Following a 79 to open the event, Frazier shot a 78 on Monday.  Her 157 saw her pick up the top 15 finish.

UE looks to build on its recent success as they begin preparations for the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.  The tournament is set for April 16-18 in Waterloo, Ill.

 The University of Evansville (UE) has announced the receipt of a $30 million federal grant program through the United States Department of Education (DOE) that will establish the Evansville's Promise Neighborhood (EPN). UE is part of a new cohort funded in 2023. Only three Neighborhoods in the nation were awarded in 2023.

The aim of the funding is to assist children and youth who are growing up in Promise Neighborhoods, providing them with access to outstanding schools as well as robust family and community support systems. These resources will help prepare them to achieve academic excellence, make the transition to college, and, ultimately, embark on a successful career.

The University of Evansville, as lead applicant, submitted the 2022 grant application to the DOE for an Evansville Promise Neighborhood on October 7, 2022, with a total request of $30 million over five years. Twenty-three Evansville Promise Neighborhood partner agencies accounted for a match totaling $32,497,295.55, for a total of more than $62 million to be invested in the community. This figure comes from the cost invested in providing wraparound care services to the schools and neighborhoods designated as the Evansville Promise Neighborhood. The Promise Neighborhood includes six schools: Evans Elementary School, Delaware Elementary School, Lincoln School, Bosse High School, Lodge Community School, and Glenwood Leadership Academy. The major partners for the EPN are UE, EVSC, E-REP, and the Evansville Promise Zone.
