In 2023, UE will launch a four-year Bachelor of Science in Creative Technologies degree.

Combining elements from UE’s Departments of Art, Communication, Theatre, and Music Conservatory, the BS in Creative Technologies aims to build students’ technological skills in the creation of sound, video, lighting, graphic, and other technologies used for creative endeavors.

The new program combines multiple disciplines to engage students in the conception, development, and production of creative content. From the first draft to the final product, students in Creative Technologies will be challenged to develop their creative skills through immersion in fundamentals of art, design, music, communication and creative writing, and to bring their creations to life onstage, onscreen, or on-air through a variety of cutting-edge digital technologies. Joe Atkinson, MFA, Assistant Professor of Communication, will serve as the Program Director.

First created by a UE alumnus, “Pep and Vim,” UE’s Annual Day of Giving, was brought to life in 2012. We shouted our school spirit from the rooftops, and we were honored that the Aces community responded to our first Pep and Vim by making 250 philanthropic gifts that totaled over $5,000.

Flash forward to April 2022, Pep and Vim’s 10-year anniversary, and you can see how UE’s Day of Giving has grown over the last decade. The 2nd Annual Statham Lecture in Sociology will be held this Thursday, March 16 at 5:30-6:30pm in Eykamp Hall (2nd floor of Ridgway) and will feature Dr. Jori Sechrist, Professor of Sociology at McMurry University in Texas. The title of her lecture is: “Navigating Institutions of Higher Education: Examining the Importance of (Female) Mentorship with a Sociological Imagination.”

Established in 2021, the Bettye A. Statham Sociology Forum Lecture invites leading scholars in Sociology to the University of Evansville to enhance student, faculty, and community experiences through the exploration of sociological research. The series examines systems of inequality and social forces that shape our world, focusing on the intersections of social institutions and how they impact our lives. This lecture series is made possible through an endowment from the late Bettye A. Statham, a 1947 Sociology alumna of Evansville College.

The Thyen-Clark Cultural Center in Jasper, Indiana, hosts Professor Todd Matteson's solo exhibition, Life's Adventures. SPAN 313 focuses on the development of communicative competence, as well as on understanding Hispanic cultures and issues of identity of heritage speakers of Spanish in the United States. Students will also develop an awareness and understanding of Hispanic cultures, including language variation, customs, geography, history, and current events. Taught exclusively in Spanish, this course is designed for heritage or native speakers only. Prerequisites: SPAN 212, or placement exam score.

The University of Evansville now has a student exchange agreement with the University of Malaga in Malaga, Spain. Each Spring semester, students will be able to attend the University of Malaga by paying only their regular tuition at the University of Evansville.

A few particulars:

• UE students must have a B2 competence level of Spanish.
• UE students should start the application process by May1st of the year prior to the year they plan to go abroad. This will allow them to select the courses that the student wants to take while abroad and determine how the credits will be transferred back to UE.
• The application process should be finished by October 1st
• UE students will take a maximum of 18 credits, with the option of taking an internship (6 credits) with the Department of Translation and Interpretation in the Department of English Studies at University of Malaga.
• Students will finalize the registration process upon arrival at University of Malaga.
• Students will pay tuition and fees to UE while paying room and board to University of Malaga. University of Malaga will help UE students find accommodations.
• Students participating in this program shall be responsible for the cost of their travel to and from Malaga, Spain.

The University bestows this award annually to honor a faculty member for extraordinary teaching effectiveness that inspires the intellectual development of students. Nominees must be a full-time faculty member who has taught at UE for two years or more and holds the rank of lecturer, instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or professor. The winner is recognized at Commencement in May.

Due to expected freezing temperatures on Friday night in Evansville, the start time for Friday's series opener between the University of Evansville baseball team and Purdue has been moved up.  The game, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. central time, will now begin at 3 p.m. central at UE's German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium in Evansville.

Evansville currently stands at 9-7 overall and UE has won nine of its last 11 games entering Wednesday afternoon's mid-week game at Bellarmine (5-11).  Purdue, meanwhile, is 8-7 overall entering a mid-week game against Northern Illinois on Wednesday afternoon.

Friday's game can be heard live in Evansville on the Old National Bank Radio Network and 107.1 FM-WJPS.

Carson Parker recorded the top finish for the University of Evansville men's golf team as they completed the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Sevierville Golf Club.

Playing as an individual, Parker carded a 5-over 77 in the third round to finish the tournament with a score of 223. He finished tied for 24th in the final standings.

Finishing one stroke behind him and in a tie for 26th was the duo of Daniil Romashkin and Isaac Rohleder.  Romashkin recorded a 79 in the final 18 holes to pace the team with a 224.  Rohleder competed as an individual and shot a 77 in round three to match Romashkin's score.

Evansville's third individual - Masatoyo Kato - tied for 32nd.  After shooting a 74 in each of the first two rounds, he posted a 77 in round three to complete the event with a 225.

Nicholas Gushrowski tied for 43rd while ranking second on the Purple Aces team.  Tuesday’s score of 76 game him a 227 for the weekend.  Michael Ikejiani finished the tournament with an 80 to post a 3-round tally of 228.  He finished in 50th.

Henry Kiel posted an 83 in the final round to finish the tourney with a 235 while Luke Schneider had a 239 after carding a 79 in round three.

Carson-Newman took top team honors with a score of 857.  They defeated North Georgia by 20 strokes.  Evansville came home in 10th with a 910.  Will Chambless of North Georgia was the medalist.  A 2-under 70 saw him complete the tournament with a 203.  He finished eight strokes in front of his nearest competition.

This weekend, the men travel to Richmond, Ky. for the Colonel Shootout.  It is a 1-day event on Sunday.

Marshall Ray has announced his decision to step down as head men’s soccer coach at the University of Evansville.  The alum of the Purple Aces program has directed the squad to back-to-back appearances in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Match.  His decision was made to spend more time with his family.

“The University of Evansville is a special place and a cornerstone of our community.  I am thankful for the time I have spent here as a student-athlete, assistant coach, and as the leader of our men’s soccer program,” Ray said.  “I am forever grateful for the opportunity and leave with a heavy heart.  It was not an easy decision, but after several conversations with my family we decided it was the right time to step away.”

“I want to thank Ziggy and Prez P. for their support through this process and ensuring a smooth transition for our student-athletes,” Ray continued.  “Our program and the department will continue to move forward under their leadership.  I am excited for Robbe and know that our program is in good hands.  I will always be an Ace and look forward to continuing to follow and support all of our teams.”

Ray was named the sixth head coach in program history on December 8, 2014.  He first stepped foot on campus as a player in 1995 before returning as the top assistant in 2006 and was named the 2013 NSCAA Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year.  A successful stint as head coach saw the program record double digit victories in 2016 and 2017, marking the first time since 1995-96 that the program accomplished the feat.  With consecutive trips to the MVC Championship Match, the program is set up for even more success moving forward.

UE Director of Athletics Dr. Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried has named Robbe Tarver as the Interim Head Coach through the fall season of 2023.

“As a student-athlete, assistant coach and head coach, Marshall Ray has made a lasting impact on our program.  He bleeds purple and loves the University of Evansville,” Siegfried exclaimed.  “I fully support Marshall’s decision and know that he will continue to be an active supporter and advocate for our program in the Evansville community.  We wish Marshall, Julia and the entire Ray family all the best!”

“Moving forward, I have full confidence in Robbe and his ability to lead our men’s soccer program.  He understands the university, community and the importance of our strong men’s soccer tradition at UE,” Siegfried added.  “He puts in the work and understands the importance of winning on and off the field while placing a genuine focus on the student-athlete experience.”

Since joining the program in January of 2020, Tarver’s impact on the program has been undeniable.  Highlighted by the conference championship success, the team has made noticeable strides in the time that Tarver has been on staff.  In his three seasons, the program has accumulated three MVC Freshman of the Year honorees.  In 2022 alone, the program had four All-MVC and four All-West Region honorees.

During his tenure on the Aces staff, Tarver has contributed in multiple facets that include recruiting, the operation of training sessions and academic performance.  As a whole, the program has recorded a GPA of approximately 3.3 over the last three years.

"I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Purple Aces program. I am thankful for the trust the University and Ziggy have shown in me, as well as the time spent working with and learning from Marshall,” Tarver remarked.  “The foundation has been laid for us to continue our upward trajectory and I am very enthusiastic about being entrusted to guide our players in the pursuit of that growth as a program and as individuals."

Prior to his arrival in Evansville, Tarver spent three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Louisville’s men’s soccer program under current head coach John Michael Hayden and former head coach Ken Lolla.  He assisted in opposition scouting, daily operations of training, recruiting organization and travel coordination.  Tarver began his coaching career at his alma mater – Centre College.  In three seasons as an assistant, his squad won its first SAA title while making its fifth NCAA appearance.
