Beginning the week of October 24, a transformation of the exterior landscape areas of Olmsted Hall will take place. Crews have already begun the process, that will include replacement of much of the existing landscape. This upgrade will greatly improve the appearance of the one building all visitors and potential student families frequent, through multiple seasons of color while allowing the beauty of this iconic building to shine.

Project contractors have been advised to yield to all pedestrians while keeping the sidewalks open. The project is anticipated to take approximately two weeks.

Renderings of the front and back door portions of the project are displayed here for all to view. We look forward to seeing the progress and improvement this project brings to Olmsted Hall!

The University of Evansville presents “Reflections”, an exhibit by Michael Warrick, on display at the Melvin Peterson Gallery through Saturday, December 10.

National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week is October 22-28. The goal of this week is to bring attention to issues posed by excessive, unsafe drinking among college students.

There will be tabling in Ridgway all week with some fun activities and the chance enter a raffle. The Health and Wellness Educator will also be hosting an alcohol safety presentation on Thursday Oct. 27th at 7pm in SOBA 170. This presentation is not just standing up and talking about how alcohol is bad – it’s more realistic, he talks about how to drink safely.

Senior nursing students will be hosting a giveback at MOD Pizza to benefit the Evansville Recovery Alliance.

On Thursday October 27, the UE Music Conservatory will welcome 500 middle and high school students from EVSC to campus for the day for workshops on group singing. The participating students all participate in their schools’ music programs. This is a great opportunity for UE to build its relationships with the area public schools and promote the university. Thank you for your part in welcoming our prospective student guests to campus for the day.

Members of the Evansville Police Department will conduct training exercises inside Hughes Hall on Wednesday, October 26th from 8:00am-3:00pm. Some portions may be audible outside. Several marked police vehicles will be in the fenced in area during the training. To ensure safety within the construction site and during the training, only pre-approved personnel will be allowed inside the fenced area.

Dr. Diana Rodríguez Quevedo, associate professor of Spanish, gave a presentation at the XXXI CIHL virtual conference last weekend. In her paper entitled, “Intimidad de la violencia y transgresiones en la intimidad en ‘Cuentos escogidos 1964-2006’ de Óscar Collazos,” she analyzed narrative voice manipulations to manifest subtle and overt forms of violence and transgressions in two short stories within this collection by the Afro-Colombian author Óscar Collazos.

Ian Clark was featured in the Indiana Association of Physician Assistants Student Board Newsletter as a Student Spotlight. He is a part of the UEPA Class of 2024 at the Stone Family Center for Health Sciences. Ian is a resident of Owensboro, KY, but has been all over for his job. Several UE DPT faculty will present at the Indiana American Physical Therapy Association's Fall Conference held in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on Saturday, October 22nd. Dr. Mark Marchino will be presenting a platform presentation titled, "DPT Student Researchers: Key to Advancing the Physical Therapy Profession." Dr. Kate Schwartzkopf-Phifer will be presenting a platform presentation titled, "Comparison of Intervention Programs to Improve Trunk Stability for Active Females: A Randomized Control Trial." Dr. Hannah Lamar will be presenting a platform titled, "One Step at a Time: Outcomes of Evidence Implementation in a Community-based Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility After Stroke." Dr. Charlene Nolen will be presenting a poster presentation titled, "Treatment of a Patient with Chronic Venous Insufficiency Using Mulit-Layer Compression and Kinesiotaping: A Case Report. Dr. Bethany Huebner will be presenting an educational session titled, "Content is King, But Only if it Sits on a Worthy Throne." Congratulations to all the DPT faculty for their contribution to physical therapy research and an ongoing commitment to advancing the profession.

For the first time since 1995, the University of Evansville men's soccer team earned a result against in-state foe Indiana, battling to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville.

Senior winger Nkosi Graham opened his account for the 2022 campaign, scoring in the second half to go along with his team-best four assists on the season. Named the Missouri Valley Conference's Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, freshman forward Nacho Diaz contributed again to the Aces attack, recording his second assist in as many matches to aid Evansville. In goal, graduate goalkeeper Alex Vidizzoni marked his 10th match of the season allowing one goal or less, making a pair of saves in the draw.

Indiana got the scoring started early in the match, finding the back of the net in the third minute on a goal from Tommy Mihalic off an assist from Ryan Wittenbrink. After settling in following the early IU tally, Evansville held possession for much of the following 42 minutes, generating a chance in the 43rd minute off the foot of freshman Tancredi Fadda that was barely tipped off targert by the Hoosiers as the visitors maintained their goal advantage at the break.

The early portions of the second half saw Evansville as the aggressor, but it was IU who recorded the first chance of the second period. Indiana's Herbert Endeley put a shot on target in the 53rd minute, but Vidizzoni made the save to keep it a one-goal deficit and that would payoff quickly. In the next minute, Evansville quickly moved the ball up the pitch, getting Graham loose and pushing the ball forward. Nacho Diaz played a through bal in the path of Graham and with IU's keeper well out of goal, Graham dribbled past the keeper and finished into the back of the net to tie the match at one. Not long after the initial goal, Evansville nearly grabbed the lead as senior Ethan Garvey found the ball at his feet with space and attempted a rocket from 40-yards out that dipped and ricocheted off the crossbar and out. The Aces worked a 6-4 advantage in shots in the second half, including four Evansville shots on-goal to just one for the Hoosiers as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Evansville returns to MVC action on Saturday night at 7 PM against UIC in Chicago, Ill.

In Tuesday’s final day of the Braun Intercollegiate, Magdalena Borisova and Kate Petrova helped the University of Evansville women’s golf team put forth a furious rally to come home in second place at Oak Meadow Country Club.

The Purple Aces duo each completed the 2-round tournament with scores of 152 to finish in a tie for second place.  Borisova tied for the low round of the day, carding a 1-over 73.  Petrova completed the final round with a 74 to tie Borisova for the runner-up spot.

Allison Enchelmayer was the third UE player to register a top ten finish.  Following a 78 on Monday, she scored a 76 in the final 18 to tally a 154.  She tied for 8th place. Mallory Russell was fourth on the team.  Identical rounds of 78 saw her tie for 13th with a 156.  Carly Frazier rounded out the team scores with a 176.  Rounds of 83 and 93 gave her a tie for 58th.

Pacing the UE individuals was Alyssa McMinn.  Her total of 79 on Tuesday gave her a 161 for the event, tying her for 25th.  Caitlin O’Donnell carded an 83 in the final round.  Her final tally checked in at 167, which tied her for 38th. 

Four behind O’Donnell was Destynie Sheridan.  She lowered her opening round score by three shots, completing the last 18 holes with an 84 to post a 2-round total of 171.  Grace Vandenburg wrapped up the home event with a 208.

Top honors on both the team and individual sides went to Austin Peay.  With a score of 611, the Governors fended off a furious challenge from the Aces to win by three strokes.  Bellarmine rounded out the top three with a 624.  Taylor Dedmen of APSU posted rounds of 72 and 74 to win the tournament with a 146.  She defeated Petrova and Borisova by six shots.
