* UE Women's Soccer Falls In Exhibition Match With Saint Louis, 4-0

Reigning Atlantic 10 Conference Rooke of the Year Emily Gaebe came off the bench Saturday to score two second-half goals and notch a first-half assist to spark the visiting Saint Louis University Billikens to a 4-0 exhibition victory over the homestanding University of Evansville women’s soccer team at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville.

Saint Louis broke a scoreless draw with a header goal off a corner kick by senior midfielder Abbie Miller in the 30th minute.  UE nearly equalized minutes later, as senior forward Emily Ormson got behind the SLU defense, but was denied from out front by Saint Louis goalkeeper Emily Puricelli.

The match remained 1-0 until the 43rd minute, when Gaebe connected with a streaking Hannah Smith down the right side, and Smith finished to the far post to give the Billikens a 2-0 halftime advantage.  Then, Gaebe scored off a giveaway in the 52nd minute, before adding a penalty-kick goal in the 88th minute to provide the final margin of victory for the Billikens.

“Saint Louis is a very good team,” said UE head coach Chris Pfau.  “I knew coming in that they would expose some things for us, which is honestly why you play exhibition matches, so that you can learn what you need to work on going forward.

“I think that we learned a lot today, especially considering this was our first exhibition match of the year and we have ten new players on the team.  Now, we just need to get back to work and fix some things in training and get ready for Vanderbilt on Thursday.”

Evansville will host the Commodores of Vanderbilt on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the regular-season opener at Arad McCutchan Stadium.  Season tickets are currently on sale for the UE women’s soccer team at the Carson Center ticket office for just $45.  The Vanderbilt match will be the first of nine regular-season home matches for the Purple Aces.
