* CDEI Presents: Passport to Inclusion Info Sessions

The Center for Diversity Equity and Inclusion invites you to attend one of the following Passport to Inclusion Information Sessions! During the info session a representative from the CDEI will discuss the background and history of Passport to Inclusion, the requirements for the program, how to get involved and more.

Passport to Inclusion is aimed at University of Evansville employees to help raise awareness of issues relating to race, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status and accommodation, as well as other historically underrepresented identities in higher education and other systems. Employees engaged with Passport to Inclusion will not only gain knowledge of diverse experiences but are encouraged to utilize their knowledge and skills to inform their own workspaces.

* The College Tour Watch Party – Coming up January 12!

The spring semester begins next week, and we have something very exciting planned! Take a break from your classes and workload and join us for The College Tour Watch Party next Wednesday, January 12! We’re inviting all students, employees, alumni, and prospective students to join us.

At 8:30 p.m., the pre-show will begin in Ridgway University Center. Show up early to get your seat, grab some free snacks from Café Court, and even take your photo on our purple carpet. At 9:00 p.m., the 30-minute episode will premiere in Eykamp Hall. Those who attend will be the first to see this episode!

We are so excited to share this video with you, because it tells the story of what makes UE such a special place.

* Fitness Center Closed Until Monday, January 10

We apologize for the inconvenience, but the Fitness Center will be closed until Monday, January 10. It will resume with normal hours then.

Fitness Center Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday: 6:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Saturday: 11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Sunday: 11:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.

NEW 2022 Indiana Sales Tax Exemption Certificate
The UE Indiana State Sales Tax Exemption Certificate for 2022 is now available on the My UE portal under the Office of Administrative Services – Pcard, Purchasing or Travel websites under Sales Tax tab for your convenience.

 
* UE Jazz

Do you play guitar, keyboard, drum set, bass, trumpet, trombone, or saxophone? The UE Music Conservatory offers two ensemble experiences (chamber jazz and big band). If you are interested contact Dr. Zifer at tz3@evansville.edu or (812) 488-2878. Come swing with us!

 
* UE Wind Ensemble Auditions

Auditions for the UE Wind Ensemble will be January 11 and 13, 2022. The UE Wind Ensemble audition will consist of prepared excerpts, two major scales (one in a flat key, one in a sharp key), chromatic scale (practical range of instrument), and sight reading. * UE Orchestras seeking new members

Students, staff, faculty, and administrators are invited to play in the University Symphony Orchestra (Audition Required) and String Chamber Ensemble (No Audition Required!). The University Symphony Orchestra meets on Monday at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The String Chamber Ensemble meets on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Krannert Hall of Fine Arts. Join us!

* Center for Diversity Equity and Inclusion is Hiring

The Center for Diversity Equity and Inclusion (CDEI) is hiring 2 new Federal Work Study Student Assistants for the Spring semester. Student Assistants will focus on projects and programming related to DEI at UE. All of those interested in DEI and fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging at the University of Evansville are encouraged to apply.

As a Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Assistant, you will be expected to work approximately 9 hours per week during arranged office hours Monday through Friday during those times when fall and spring classes are in session. The specific hours worked will be at the discretion of the Center for DE&I (based on your class schedule and the needs of the office). Some work may include evenings and weekends based on event and project needs.

Required Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, strong interest in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of Evansville, interest and/or experience in programming/ events, experience with social media, strong comfort level with people from a variety of backgrounds, as well as a willingness to expand knowledge and skills related to diversity and inclusion, ability to convey complicated and/or controversial information in a respectful manner, commitment to fostering diversity in a working and learning environment.

* UE Announces Dean's List for Fall 2021 Semester

The University of Evansville is pleased to announce that over 630 students were named to the Dean's List for the Fall 2021 semester. To merit the honor of being placed on the Dean's List each semester, a student must have carried a full academic load of 12 hours or more and have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

* Condolences

Condolences to Bob Szurgot, Business Systems Director, on the death of his mother, Linell D. Szurgot. Linell passed away on December 18th.

 
* Sympathy to Ms. Leanne Nayden

The University extends its sympathy to Ms. Leanne Nayden, Lecturer in the School of Education, in the passing of her brother Lee Michael Howerter in Anderson, SC. Michael passed away Dec 14, 2021. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served in the Army Reserves. Michael worked as a yacht broker in Florida before retiring to South Carolina. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Jan 8, 2022, in Anderson, SC.

 

Athletics

* Women's Basketball back home for Valley Weekend

After a weekend on the road in Iowa, the University of Evansville women's basketball team returns home for the first time since Dec. 11 with a pair of Missouri Valley Conference contests against Bradley on January 7 and Illinois State in January 9 inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse in Evansville, Ind.

Previewing the Matchup: Bradley
• Evansville and Bradley are meeting for the 58th time in series history with the Braves owning a 37-20 advantage in the all-time series.
• In the last meeting, the Braves captured a 77-57 win on Jan. 16, 2021, extending their win streak in the series to nine games.
• The game will be Evansville's first home game of 2022 and the first since a 79-49 win over Morehead State on Dec. 11.
• Bradley enters the weekend with a 3-7 record and an 0-1 mark in MVC play, having lost seven-straight games after a 3-0 start.
• The Aces are looking for their first win in an MVC home opener since a 57-41 win over Indiana State on Dec. 30, 2016.
• Bradley will be without one of the best players in program history and one of the best players in The Valley over the last decade after fifth-year senior Gabi Haack suffered a season-ending injury against Illinois State on Saturday. Haack has been phenomenal against the Aces in her career, recording 20-or-more points three times against UE, including a near triple-double with 27 points, eight

Previewing the Matchup: Illinois State
• Evansville and Illinois State are meeting for the 58th time in series history with the Redbirds holding a 38-19 advantage in the all-time series.
• Last season, Evansville dropped its opener against Illinois State, 68-51, before being unable to compete in the second game, resulting in a no contest.
• The Redbirds enter the weekend with a 5-7 record and a 1-0 mark in the MVC after capturing a 64-57 win over Bradley in the opening weekend of conference play.
• Sunday's game will feature two teams that play at opposite ends of the pace spectrum. Evansville is 26th in the nation in pace, while the Redbirds are 342nd in pace.

Top of the Conference
• With the last two contests under the Aces belt, junior Je'Naiya Davis has now played in over 75% of Evansville's contests this year, qualifying her for NCAA statistical rankings.
• Davis paces The Valley in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game, and her teammate, junior guard/forward Abby Feit, is just behind Davis in second in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.2 points per game.
• Davis and Feit are the only teammates in the nation to sit first and second in their conference in scoring average.

• Pouring-in a team-high 22 points at No. 21 Iowa on Sunday, Abby Feit notched her 50th double-figure scoring game of her career, doing so in just 63 career games.

 
* Men's basketball to face Drake on Saturday at Ford Center

Illinois State University has determined it is unable to compete in Sunday's (Jan. 9) men's basketball home game against the University of Evansville.  Evansville, meanwhile, which was originally scheduled to host Illinois State on Jan. 8 at 4 p.m. CT at Ford Center, will now host Drake on Saturday at 4 p.m.  Drake's Saturday home game with Indiana State was earlier postponed.

IMPORTANT TICKET INFO: Season tickets and individual game tickets previously purchased for the originally scheduled game against Drake on January 15th will be the tickets used to enter the Ford Center on Saturday the 8th. 

Tickets that were for the original game against Illinois State on January 8 will be used when the Aces take on the Redbirds inside the Ford Center on January 23 at 1 p.m.

The Conference office will attempt to reschedule the Illinois State-Evansville game, if possible. Illinois State's next scheduled game is at Drake on Wednesday, Jan. 12.  The Conference will share information about the status of that contest as soon as possible.
