Currently, the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) has identified the following Indiana residents as eligible to receive the COVID vaccine:

• Healthcare Workers
• First Responders
• Teachers and school staff in pre-K through high school, child care centers, Head Start and Early Start programs
• Licensed childcare providers, including center-based and family care providers
• Age 16 and above
• Specific groups of patients at highest risk of severe illness from COVID-19 who are identified by their healthcare provider are also eligible. These individuals will receive a unique registration link by text or email.

We will keep our patients updated as eligibility and administration sites broaden. Although currently there is no cost to patients for the vaccine, insurance information will be collected.

UE's Habitat for Humanity chapter is excited to host a socially distant Barn Blitz on Saturday, April 24 at 7:30 AM at Habitat for Humanity of Evansville (560 E Diamond Avenue). Teams of five are still needed. Not familiar with Barn Blitz? At Barn Blitz, UE students, faculty, and other campus employees join together to assemble yard barns for Habitat for Humanity families. These families receive these yard barns in addition to a brand new home, helping to bring stability and security to their lives.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Office of Institutional Equity are providing multiple opportunities for members of the campus community to get involved and stand up against sexual violence.

Sign the University’s Pledge to Get Consent. The University of Evansville defines consent as “a voluntary, informed and freely-given agreement, communicated though mutually-understandable words and/or actions , to engage in agreed-upon Sexual Contact, Sexual Intercourse, Sexual Exploitation, or other sexual activity.” By participating in this pledge, you are agreeing to make sure all of your sexual encounters are fully consensual. Family, friends and loved ones of the late Dr. Marvin E. Hartig are pleased to announce the application process for the Dr. Marvin E. Hartig Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is dedicated to the loving memory of Dr. Hartig, Dean of Evansville College’s Evening College in 1967, and administrator for the Center for Advanced Study, director of the Evansville chapter of the American Institute of Banking (AIB), and the international student advisor. In 1974, Dr. Hartig was appointed Dean of Academic Services. He retired in 1984 after serving his alma mater for thirty-five years and passed away in 2007.

This scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving sophomore student. Preference will be given to a student working while being enrolled as a full-time student. International students are encouraged to apply.

Eligible students for the 2021-2022 Hartig Memorial Scholarship will be sophomores in the 2021-2022 academic year.

Recent Creative Writing Grad Jenna Sumpter publishes three micropoems in Southchild Lit. Two were inspired by her travels at Harlaxton.

Tanner Craig turned-in another strong performance at the plate, but it was not enough in Evansville 9-5 loss to Missouri State in the series finale on Sunday.

"Tough loss to lose the overall series. Just didn't play well enough," said Aces head baseball coach Wes Carroll. "You have to credit Missouri State for applying pressure in all aspects of the game. I'm anxious to see how this group handles this adversity deep into the season."

The Aces offense got started early in the game with a pair of runs in the first, but it was big second and fourth innings from the Bears that was difficult for Evansville to overcome. Missouri State struck for four runs in the second frame, all coming with one out and in successive at bats. In the fourth, the Bears added two runs

Single runs for Evansville in the fifth and eighth helped aid the Aces effort, but Dakota Katowski lifted a two-run home run to center that pushed Missouri State further in front en route to the 9-5 win.

At the plate, the Aces were led by a trio who recorded two hits on the day. Simon Scherry, Danny Borgstrom, and Tanner Craig, the three, four, and five hitters, each tallied two hits with Borgstrom recording a pair of RBI.

On the mound, Evansville cycled through seven pitchers as starter Donovan Schultz was credited with the loss after pitching the first two innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits. Drew Dominik pitched most effectively of Evansville relievers, entering in the seventh and throwing a scoreless inning and a third, allowing just one hit and striking-out one.

The Aces return to the road next weekend with a four-game MVC set against Illinois State on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Ill.

Falling in the opening game of the doubleheader, Jake McMahill pitched a commanding performance on the mound in game two as Evansville earned a split of a Saturday doubleheader with a 4-2 game two victory, following the 3-0 loss in game one.

"Great bounce back win in game two today. Our pitching staff did a great job all day against a very tough balanced offensive lineup," said Aces head baseball coach Wes Carroll. "Getting a base clearing double from Tanner in the first is so important for our team as McMahill competed for six innings. This sets up for a very important MVC game tomorrow."

Game One: Missouri State 3, Evansville 0

A pitcher's duel emerged in the opening game of the the day's doubleheader as the story was the two starters, especially in the first half of the seven-inning contest. Evansville's Caleb Reinhardt and Missouri State's Matt Russell both glided through the opening three innings of the game with just two batters reaching base combined.

In the fourth, the Bears struck first with two outs. A Ben Whetston walk was capitalized on by Missouri State as Jaden Rolffs promptly doubled to center to give the Bears a 1-0 advantage. Evansville looked to answer in the bottom half, but Danny Borgstrom's double down the left field line with one out was the lone offense in the inning for the Aces.

Missouri State again threatened in the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but Reinhardt struck-out Grant Wood to end the Bears chance.

The Bears would not be held off long though as Missouri State scored twice more in the sixth on a two-run homer by Drake Baldwin that elevated the Bears lead to 3-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, Evansville again created chances with one out as Mark Shallenberger ripped a dropped a double down the left field line, but Missouri State closed-out the inning with back-to-back outs to earn the 3-0 win.

Game Two: Evansville 4, Missouri State 2

Unlike the first game, Evansville's offense jumped all over the Bears early in game two. In the bottom of the first, the Aces drew three-straight walks, loading the bases for Tanner Craig. The junior began what would prove to be a strong performance at the plate in the second game by lifting a double to left center, clearing the bases and handing Evansville a 3-0 lead in the first.

McMahill tip-toed his way through the first four innings, finding himself in slight jams, but finding the right pitch at the right time to hold the Bears off the board. Evansville added another run in the bottom of the fourth as Craig recorded his second-straight double to lead-off the inning. After Shallenberger walked, Brent Widder laid down a well-executed sacrifice bunt to move the pair into scoring position. Brinkley sent another run home for the Aces with a sacrifice fly to center that saw Craig score.

McMahill finished the day after the sixth, pitching six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking-out three. After the redshirt junior exited the contest, Missouri State began to find a rhythm at the plate. With one out in the seventh, the Bears recorded a walk, a single, and another walk in three-straight at bats to load the bases. But as has been true much of the season so far, Evansville's defense provided a much needed play, getting Whetstone to ground into a double play to end the inning.

Missouri State scored a run in the eighth, setting-up an interesting ninth inning as Jakob Meyer came in to close for the Aces. Back-to-back base-hits to open the ninth brought the game-tying run to the plate with no outs. A double play again proved huge for Evansville as Wood grounded into the 6-4-3 double play, leaving the Bears to their final out. A wild pitch in the next at bat, scored a second run on the afternoon for the Bears, closing the gap to 4-2. Whetstone then was walked, again bringing the tying run to the plate. Rolffs appeared to have tied the game in the ninth with a long drive to left, but Shallenberger sprinted to the track, leaping to make a grab before crashing into the wall, ending the game with a 4-2 Aces win.

Trailing by a 5-2 margin entering the 7th inning, the University of Evansville softball team staged a furious rally, but came up just short with Drake taking a 5-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at Ron Buel Field.

Leading the Purple Aces (18-16, 6-9 MVC) was the tri of Eryn Gould, Katie McLean and Alyssa Barela, who posted two hits apiece.  Gould reached base three times with two hits and a walk.  Haley Woolf recorded her second home run of the season in the contest.  Izzy Vetter gave up two runs on two hits in three frames while Erin Kleffman tossed the final three innings.  Emily Valtman was the top performer for the Bulldogs (11-25, 5-10 MVC), going 2-3 with four RBI.  Nicole Timmons picked up the win in the circle, allowing four runs on four hits in her six innings.

Evansville took its first lead of the weekend in the second inning when Haley Woolf homered to right field.  It was her second long ball of the season.  The lead held strong until the bottom of the third when Valtman hit a 2-run shot.  Jenna Lis tied the score in the top half of the fourth, hitting an RBI single to score Halie Fain.  Fain pinch ran for Alyssa Barela, who began the inning with a double.

The momentum for UE did not last too long as the Bulldogs put a 3-spot on the board in the bottom of the fourth.  Valtman had the big hit again, posting a 2-RBI single that put Drake in front by a 5-2 score.  The margin remained that way until the top of the seven when the Aces made a final effort to pick up the win.  Walks by Elyse Hickey and Gould, coupled with a Jessica Fehr single, loaded the bases with no outs.  A fielder’s choice by Barela scored the third run of the game.  Marah Wood added an RBI double to get her team within one, but a pitching change for Drake resulted in a pair of strikeouts that ended the game with a 5-4 DU win.

UE returns to Cooper Stadium on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Indiana State. 

Settling-in in the third inning, Shane Gray plowed through the Bears lineup in a strong performance on the mound for the Aces, but a pair of eighth-inning runs from Missouri State handed Evansville a 5-3 setback in the series opener on Friday night.

Gray closed the night pitching seven innings, allowing two earned runs and striking-out five. Michael Parks received the loss, lasting two-thirds of an inning, giving-up two runs on two hits. Coming in to finish the outing was Drew Dominik, going the final inning and a third, allowing just one hit and sitting down three batters via strikeout.

At the plate, Kenton Crews, Danny Borgstrom, and Ben Komonosky led the way with a pair of hits each with Crews delivering an RBI. Tanner Craig crushed his team-best fifth home run of the season, giving the junior two RBI in the opener.

Missouri State got to work early in the contest, plating three runs in the first two innings. In the first, the Bears got a single on the first pitch of the game, following it up with a walk to put a pair on with no outs. A base-hit two batters later loaded the bases and Baldwin delivered an RBI single to center to give the Bears a 1-0 lead before Gray ended the inning with a 6-4-3 double play.

Two more runs were added by Missouri State in the top half of the second on a two-run home run by Jenkins to right field that gave the visitors a 3-0 advantage. Beginning in the third, Gray showcased the best of his stuff, facing the minimum each inning from the third to the seventh and giving Evansville's offense a chance to get going.

The Aces bats did just that in the middle portions of the game as Crews drove home Komonsky in the third to chip away at the Bears advantage.

In the sixth, Borgstrom singled to center with just one out, turning the plate over to Craig. The Scottsburg, Ind. native took advantage, driving a towering two-run homer to center field and tying the game at three.

The turning point of the contest came in the eighth when Gray gave way to Parks. The Bears opened the inning with a base-hit, advancing the runner to second on a wild pitch with one out. The insuing at-bat saw Rolffs deliver what would prove to be the game-winning run with a double to left, scoring Wood. Two batters later, with Dominik taking over for Parks, Missouri State added a second run in the inning with an RBI single from Hull to provide a 5-3 lead for the Bears.

Evansville appeared to have something going in the eighth with a lead-off double by Simon Scherry, but Ziegenbein locked-in for the Bears and sat the next six Aces down in order, securing the 5-3 Missouri State win.

Alyssa Barela launched two home runs in Saturday’s doubleheader against Drake, which saw the Bulldogs edge the Purple Aces in a pair of games at Buel Field.

Evansville (18-15, 6-8 MVC) fell by a 2-0 final in the opener before Drake (10-25, 4-10 MVC) finished the day with an 8-4 victory.

Game 1
The opener was a pitcher’s duel with Izzy Vetter and Nicole Timmons each tossing gems.  The Bulldogs scored an unearned run in the first as Libby Ryan reached on an error to lead the game off, going all the way to third before coming home on a Macy Johnson single.  UE had a hit by Jessica Fehr in the first and Eryn Gould in the sixth, but could not get a run home.

Drake added another run in the bottom half of the sixth on a solo home run by Addie Lightner to double the lead and would win by the 2-0 final.  Timmons picked up the win, allowing two hits and striking out nine.  Vetter gave up just four hits and fanned six batters.

Game 2
Game two saw Drake get off to a fast start, plating five runs before an out was recorded in the bottom of the first.  Highlighting the frame was a 3-run homer from Makayla Rice.  Jenna Lis doubled to lead off the second while Eryn Gould hit a 2-out double in the third, but the shutout continued for the Bulldogs.

Alyssa Barela made sure to changed that as her first home run of the season led off the fourth inning to make it a 5-1 game.  The long ball proved to be contagious as Jessica Fehr led off the fifth frame with a solo shot before Marah Wood added another with one out to cut the DU lead to two.  After the Bulldogs got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth, Barela went yard for the second time, hitting her second home run of the game in the sixth to get UE within a pair once again.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were able to tag two more runs on the board in the bottom of the frame on a Libby Ryan homer and hung on for the 8-4 win.  Jaime Nurrernbern made the start, giving up five runs while Erin Kleffman threw six innings of relief.  She had a strong outing, allowing three runs on seven hits while throwing 103 pitches.  Mackenzie Hupke picked up the win for Drake, allowing three runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings.  Drake recorded 11 hits with Emily Valtman and Macy Johnson both going 3-4.  Evansville picked up six hits with Barela going 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs.

In the final event of the 2021 spring season, the University of Evansville women’s golf team will travel to Saint Charles, Missouri for the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.

Opening on Monday, April 19, the tournament begins at 8 a.m. with the opening two rounds.  On Tuesday, the third and final round will also begin at 8 a.m. at Bogey Hills Country Club.  It will be the first MVC Championship since the spring of 2019 due to the 2020 version being canceled due to COVID-19.

Sophia Rohleder had a strong performance in the 2019 championship, tying for 5th place in the final standings.  A 2-over 74 in the first round of play was a strong start to an effort that saw her score a 226 for the three rounds, 10 over par.  She garnered All-Conference honors for her efforts.  Heading into this year’s finale, Rohleder continues to perform at a high level.  She leads the team with a 77.00 scoring average and won the opening two tournaments this spring – the ASU Spring Classic and the Don Benbow Invitational and is coming off of a 4th place tie last time out at the Jan Weaver Invite.

Mallory Russell was the Purple Aces’ second-leading performer in its last event.  The freshman carded a 77 to begin the tournament before completing the three rounds with a 236.  She tied for 41st.   Just behind her was Allison Enchelmayer, who recorded a 237.  Her top round came in the opening day as she tallied a 76.

Caitlin O’Donnell had a consistent performance, notching rounds of 81-80-81 on her way to a 242 while Alyssa McMinn registered a 243.  Her low score was a 77 in the second round.
