* Anna Zull Earns Prestigious Gilman Scholarship for Study Abroad

The University of Evansville is proud to recognize senior Anna Zull as its most recent winner of the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Zull, a Spanish major, will study next spring though the Institute for Foreign Study-Butler at the Universidad Nacional (UNA) in Heredia, Costa Rica, where she will pursue coursework in Spanish literature, culture, and language.

The Gilman International Scholarship is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE). The Gilman Scholarship Program seeks to diversify US students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go. Specifically, the Gilman program offers scholarships to highly qualified student populations that have been traditionally underrepresented in education abroad.

Zull is the eighth University of Evansville student to have received the competitive Gilman International Scholarship since 2008.  Rachel Cochran, an English major, is currently a Gilman Scholar at the University of Hyderabad in India, and Mary Pugh is currently using her Gilman Scholarship to support study toward her major in Spanish at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua, in Managua.

At the University of Evansville, international education is at the heart of the institutional core purpose: to provide life-transforming experiences that prepare students to engage the world as informed, ethical, and productive citizens.

* UE Women's Basketball Welcomes Mallory Ladd Home

Arguably one of the best players to come out of Memorial High School, Mallory Ladd has decided to transfer from Valparaiso University back home to play for Coach Oties Epps and the University of Evansville Purple Aces.

“We are delighted to welcome Mallory Ladd to our program and back home to Evansville,” said Epps. “Mallory has a tremendous work ethic and passion for the game and she is a great fit for our program.

“Her ability to score and rebound the basketball will boost our frontcourt production, and her versatility and aggressiveness will allow us to take another step in the growth of our program.”

Ladd, who scored 1,803 points in her high school career and grabbed a school-record 1,163 rebounds, led Memorial to the 3A state championship with a 28-1 mark in her senior year. She was named Indiana Miss Basketball runner-up and was a first team all-state selection in 2011 by the Associated Press and Hoosier Basketball Magazine.

In the first month of the 2011-12 season, the 6’1 freshman forward played in six games with the Crusaders, averaging 10.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, also shooting 91.3 percent (21-23) from the free throw line.

As per NCAA transfer rules, Ladd will have to sit out one year, but will be eligible to join the Aces on the court in the second semester of the 2012-13 season.
