Rania Mousa, Associate Professor of Accounting and Mead Johnson Nutrition Endowed Chair in Business, would like to invite accounting and business students to attend an upcoming virtual talk with Tiffany Couch, a nationally-recognized expert source on the topic of fraud and financial crimes.

Tiffany Couch is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified in Financial Forensics, a Certified Fraud Examiner and is the founder and principal of a forensic accounting firm based in the Pacific Northwest. She has been described as an “energetic, engaging and thought-provoking speaker,” who has 20 years of experience in conducting financial investigations and testifying as an expert witness in state and federal jurisdictions. Her expertise has been used by The New York Times, Forbes, CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio, and Fraud Magazine. She is the former Chairwoman of the Association of the Certified Fraud Examiners' (ACFE) Board of Regents and the winner of the ACFE 2014 James R. Baker Speaker of the Year to honor an individual who has demonstrated the true spirit of leadership in communication, presentation and quality instruction. She is also the book author of “The Thief in Your Company: Protect Your Organization from the Financial and Emotional Impacts of Insider Fraud,” which has been highly rated on Amazon.

Topics include the intersection of race and ethnicity with child dependency court, familial incarceration, the “school to prison pipeline,” police/youth interactions, and jurors’ perceptions of racial minority child and adolescent victims and defendants.

UE’s PT Club is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive to support our neighbors in need. The food items will be donated to the Food Pantry at St. Mary and John Catholic Church in downtown Evansville. Collection sites are the 1st floor of Graves Hall and the 3rd floor of Stone Center through November 19 by Noon. The items needed are canned green beans, corn, baked beans, instant potatoes, mac & cheese, oatmeal, pasta, rice, canned fruit, and creamy peanut butter.

The St. Mary Food Pantry opened its doors more than 20 years ago when the parish realized the great need to provide food for the hungry in downtown Evansville. They began by assisting a few families each month. Since then, the Food Pantry has grown tremendously, now assisting more than 250 households per month.

On November 3, 2020, UE insurance partner announced a few changes to the UE international insurance program including the following:

• Europ Assistance, UE’s international travel assistance partner has changed its name to Generali Global Assistance (Generali). However, services remain the same.
• The new GardaWorld program now provides expanded information offerings (country briefings, alerts, medical network, and additional security information) and a mobile phone app that can be downloaded for real-timed information and alerts.

The neuromarketing lab is conducting a survey for the Habitat for Humanity organization. We are looking for responses to various taglines. The survey will be given through Qualtrics and will ask to record for your visual reaction. Your video will only be for the purpose of this research and will not be shown or distributed to anyone besides the neuromarketing research team. The survey is worth 3 extra credit points. The deadline to complete the survey will be November 13 by the end of the day.

UE Theatre hosted another session of their 2020–21 Workshop Series on Sunday, November 1, featuring Brandon Kirkham’s ’05 Q&A workshop. This workshop allowed students to ask about freelance work for designers, builders, and artisans’.

Brandon received his MFA in Theater Design from Ohio University, a BS in Theatre Design & Technology from the University of Evansville and holds a graduate certificate in Puppet Arts from the University of Connecticut. He is a proud member of Puppeteers of America, UNIMA USA, Brown County Arts Alliance, and the Indiana Puppetry Guild.

Brandon Kirkham is a freelance designer, builder, and artisan with more than a decade of professional experience in theatres and shops across the country. From his studio in the historic art colony of Nashville, Indiana, he designs costumes, sets, and puppets for theatre, and builds custom puppets, props, and crafts for all types of clients. Brandon brings a wide range of skills and approaches to his work and especially loves projects that combine multiple disciplines and require unique design solutions.

From 2010 to 2019, Brandon worked at First Stage, a theatre organization for young people and families in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served as Design Supervisor, Costume Crafts Artisan, and Properties Artisan, and designed more than fifty productions for that company. Brandon has also designed for Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Skylight Music Theatre, Hope Summer Repertory Theatre, Florentine Opera Company, and others. As a builder of puppets, crafts, and props Brandon’s work has been seen at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Pioneer Theatre Company, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Enchantment Theatre Company, Kohl’s Wild Theatre at the Milwaukee County Zoo, Utah Museum of Natural History, and many more. Brandon spends his summers in New Mexico as Costume Crafts Head for the Santa Fe Opera.

This week’s installment of the UET Salon Series PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT, was held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, with Isaac Katzanek ’11 and Julie Ann Arbiter ’11. These two alums shared their experiences on working in production management in the professional world then and now.

A native of Las Vegas, Isaac graduated from UET with a BFA in Design and Technology, and moved to New York City where he began freelancing in lighting, sound, and technical direction positions. He transitioned to production management through positions at the Roundabout Theatre Company and the Williamstown Theatre Festival. These experiences led to his being named the Production Manager at Aurora Productions, the leader in production management for Broadway, Off-Broadway, and national tours. After serving as the Production Manager for the inaugural team at New York’s The Shed, Isaac moved to the West Coast to accept the position of Production Manager at the Geffen Playhouse, in Los Angeles.

After graduating from UET with a BS in Stage Management, Julie Ann worked as a freelance stage manager and event planner in her hometown of Houston. Two years later, she moved to New York City where her freelance work helped her transition from stage management to production management. For five years, Julie Ann gained a wide breadth of experience working in production management for the Public Theatre on HAMILTON, Shakespeare in the Park, at Joe’s Pub, and with the Mobile Shakespeare Unit. In January of 2019, Julie Ann moved back to her hometown to accept the position of Associate Production Manager at the Alley Theatre.

This semester, UE Theatre students will have the opportunity to experience twelve workshops with professionals from the entertainment industry.

This lecture is part of a series of alumni talks in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Department of Archaeology and Art History at the University of Evansville. To kick off our program, UE alumnus Dr. Andrew Reinhard ('94), Director of Publications at the American Numismatic Society in New York, will speak about the archaeology of video games on Wednesday November 11 at 7:00 pm. Dr. Reinhard will discuss ideas of rapid consumerism and accelerated nostalgia while exploring video games as examples of digital built heritage and the second homes of billions of 21st-century humans. Katie Darby Mullins’ first book of poetry, “Neuro, Typical: Chemical Reactions & Trauma Bonds” (Summer Camp Press) will be released November 17th. The publisher notes: “So often, it’s easy to look at a moment of swift, tragic growth and see it as the defining line: life was before and after that event. But what if the events just keep coming?

Neuro, Typical is a story in poems of Mullins’s recovery from a brain-stem stroke told in disorganized clips and stories: the focus shifts from the physical to the mental and spiritual, from fixed “timeline” events like a housefire to trying to define a relationship there doesn’t seem to be a word for.” Noted poet Kaveh Akbar says it should be read “because when Horace pronounced, over 2000 years ago, “dulce et util!”, that poems must delight and instruct, he was talking about poems like the ones in this gorgeous little volume.”

In consultation with Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, the Vanderburgh County Health Department the local health care community, and Venuworks, the seating capacity at the Ford Center for the upcoming University of Evansville 2020-21 men’s basketball season has been further restricted.

The Ford Center attendee capacity shall abide by Governor Holcomb’s current state-wide order of limiting large gatherings to 500 attendees or less without written exception from the local health department. In compliance with current CDC standards, the previously developed and approved “pod seating” social distancing plan shall be instituted to all attendees.

This decision was largely based on the rise in COVID-19 cases in Southwest Indiana, the local positivity rate of COVID-19 cases, the increasing census rate at Vanderburgh County hospitals and the overall health and well-being of the Evansville community.

Ford Center attendees shall be comprised of a limited number of UE students, home and visiting team families and guests as determined by the NCAA and the Missouri Valley Conference, designated game day personnel, current Aces Assist Members, and other contractually obligated partners. No tickets will be available for sale at this time.  We are committed to further evaluating seating capacity with our community partners should circumstance permit reconsideration.

Season ticket holders will receive a letter in the mail over the next few days detailing options available for their paid 2020-21 season ticket amount.
