* Watch Winter Commencement Online!

For those who are unable to attend today's Winter Commencement ceremony, the event will be carried live on the UE website. Beginning at 1:55 p.m., viewers will be able to watch the live feed by clicking here, or by visiting www.evansville.edu and clicking the available link.

 
* Don't Forget the Campus Christmas Carry-In!

Don’t forget that the Campus Christmas Carry–in is set for Friday, December 16! It will be in the Ridgway University Center Dining Hall from noon to 1:15 p.m. Sodexo will provide meat, plates, utensils, drinks, cups, ice, and napkins. Please bring your favorite dish.  

 
* Fire Alarm Testing

On Thursday, December 15, between 8 a.m.-2 p.m., the Office of Safety and Security will be testing the fire alarms in the academic buildings. If the alarm should sound for more than a minute you will need to evacuate the building, otherwise evacuation is not required. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause!
 

 

What's Happening Today

* This week in Music - Suzuki Violin Solo Recitals

The University of Evansville Suzuki Violin Students will be performing solo recitals on Wednesday, December 14 and Thursday, December 15 in Wheeler Concert Hall, Krannert Center for Fine Arts.  The concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. each evening and are free and open to the public. In 2012 the UE Suzuki program celebrates its 40th year as part of the University and the Evansville community.

* Habitat for Humanity Trip to Jordan Planned for May

Attention all UE students! Habitat for Humanity is searching for an additional 7 students to join the group on a trip to Amman, Jordan for a build. The group will be leaving for Amman on May 11 and returning to the U.S. on May 18. If you are interested, please contact Kendra Morehead at km287@evansville.edu or Lesley Nash at ln37@evansville.edu for further details.

 

Info You Should Know

* Attention Administrators and Support Staff: Are You Interested in Visiting Harlaxton College in 2012?

UE staff and administrative employees have the opportunity to participate in a professional development program at Harlaxton College, the British Campus of the University of Evansville, for a week during an academic semester or as part of a group experience with scheduled programming during the summer.  A summer session is scheduled for July 27-August 3, 2012. The number of participants will be subject to University budget considerations and Harlaxton College capacity.

The program goals for participants are:
• To understand more fully the University’s global mission
• To enhance their ability to relate to students and parents the value of a Harlaxton and study abroad experience
• To understand the organizational structure of Harlaxton
• To establish relationships with Harlaxton personnel
• To reflect on how their own personal development through their Harlaxton experience is similar to students’ experiences
• To provide an opportunity for cross-cultural education Program options

* Campus Dining Winter Break Hours

The last meal for the semester is dinner from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14. The first meal back will be dinner on Sunday, January 8. Ace's Place & Jazzman's will close at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, December 14 and reopen normal hours on January 9.

 

 
* Administrative Services' Areas Closed for Lunch

Please note that the Office of Administrative Services including Purchasing, Copy Services, Mail Services, Recycling, Risk Management, and Central Receiving will be closed for a Christmas staff luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19. 
 

 
* UrEntal Textbook Returns

Students who rented UrEntal books from the UE Bookstore for the Fall term are reminded that those books are due back in the Bookstore no later than Dec. 14 at 4 p.m.  You may return them anytime prior to that date.  Also if you bring them in during Book Buyback make sure you take your UrEntal books to the counter clearly marked as the return depot for UrEntal books.  Rental books not returned by the deadline (Dec. 14) are subject to late fees and/or replacement fees.  If you have any questions please contact the Bookstore.

 

 
* 2012 Pcard Cycle Dates

The new year 2012 SDG2 Pcard Cycle Dates are now available. They are posted on the AceLink Pcard website under Training Materials PCard Montly Cycle Dates - 2012.  (Note: Cardholders should route Pcard Envelopes for signature to their Supervisors within 1-2 days of the Cycle Report Print Date.)

 

 


 

 
* Bookstore Buyback Information

1. Buyback in the Bookstore runs from noon on Dec. 7 to Dec. 14. 
2. Please bring your student ID with you to sell your books.
3. You do NOT need your original receipt to sell books. 
4. Bring all components that came with your book, it may increase the value of the book.
5. You will receive CASH ON THE SPOT .. no future credits or other craziness.
6. In general, if we have an adoption for a book for next Spring you will receive generally half of the price you paid.  Other books will be paid at wholesale value which varies depending on the age of the book and its popularity.
7. Workbooks need to be clean and complete (no pages missing) to have value. 
8. You may sell books back as many times as you wish during Buyback week, one at a time or in stacks.
9. We buyback books whether used or purchased on this campus or not.  We FREELY quote any price and it is your option to sell.
 
Keep in mind during this time of the year you will receive lots of claims which may or may not be truthful.  If you have any concerns or questions you can always check our prices against anyone.  And remember books bought at our Buyback stay on this campus so that UE students can benefit from cheaper used prices.  Also during buyback we will have daily giveaways, promotions, and offer discounts on store merchandise.  All UE clothing and gift items will be 15% off BUT you can increase that discount to 20 or 25% during buyback.  We will have a grand prize drawing five straight days where you can with an XBox, Wii and other prizes.  You get one entry every time you sell a book (minimum $5 transaction) and it remains in the bin all week long.

The Spring 2012 booklist will be posted at the close of Buyback and will clearly list the availabillity of new, used or rental books in the store.  You can then reserve your books and they will be waiting for you when you come back to school in January.  If you have any questons please contact the Bookstore.
 

 

Congratulations

* Jessica Russell-Pope

Congratulations to Jessica Russell-Pope. Her two creative nonfiction pieces, “Natural Highlights” and “Black Ties” will appear in Catfish Creek, a national undergraduate literary journal of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Jessica is a double major in creative writing and psychology and co-director of the Creative Writing Department’s Student Writers of Indiana Program.
 

 

Athletics

* Lady Aces Set Sights on Skyhawks Friday

Coming off a shining 30-point victory over Murray State, the University of Evansville women’s basketball will take on its second Ohio Valley Conference opponent in as many games, traveling to take on the University of Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks Friday at 7 p.m. Including UE’s game with UT Martin, the Purple Aces have just two non-conference contests remaining this season. UE will travel to Columbia, Mo. Monday to face the Big 12’s University of Missouri, closing the non-league slate.

The Aces come off a 78-48 win over Murray State, their largest victory since beating Southern Illinois on Jan. 15, 2011 by a 34-point margin. Briyana Blair led the way for the Aces, scoring a season-best 20 points, along with nine rebounds, eight steals, and six assists. Juniors Samantha Heck (15 points, 6 rebounds) and Meagan Collins (11 points, 7 rebounds) also had solid games, as three Aces reached double figures. On the season, Heck and Blair lead the Aces’ offense with Heck averaging 11.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and Blair 10.4 points and 8.4 boards.

As a team, UE ranks third in the Missouri Valley Conference with 4.0 blocks per game. Individually, Briyana Blair and Taylor Ware rank in the top 10 for a number of categories...

Blair – 3rd – blocks – 1.3/game
Blair – 3rd – steals – 2.3/game
Blair – 4th – rebounding – 8.4/game

After heading to UT Martin on Fri. Dec. 16 and Mizzou on Mon. Dec. 19, Evansville opens MVC play at Indiana State on Dec. 30. UE’s first home game of the 2012 year is Jan. 5 versus Northern Iowa.

“The Oties Epps Show,” hosted by Mike Radomski airs live from the UE Bookstore in the Ridgway University Center on the UE campus from 12-12:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons. Fans are invited and encouraged to come out and be a part of the show and meet the coaches and players of the UE women’s basketball team. Fans can also listen in online at both wuev.org and GoPurpleAces.com.

With a collective 3.34 grade point average, the University of Evansville women’s basketball team ranked 24th in the nation on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s Academic Top 25 Honor Roll for 2010-11 season. The honor marked the third time in the last five years in which the Purple Aces have ranked among the nation’s Top 25 academically.

 

 
* UE Men's Soccer To Kick-Off Winter Coat Drive For Evansville Community

Join the Aces Men’s Soccer Program and Aces Soccer Camp to kick-off a winter coat drive for the Evansville community. Please donate a new or gently used coat to help our community stay warm this winter. With every coat donated, you will receive a raffle ticket that is good for special University of Evansville Purple Aces Soccer prizes – including Aces soccer apparel and gift certificates for 2012 Aces Soccer Camp programming.

The Aces will accept donations in the Men’s Soccer Office (located in Carson Center) from Thursday, December 1 until Monday, December 19. Donated coats can be dropped off any time during normal working hours through December 19.
