* October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Office of Institutional Equity and the Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will be posting newsletters regarding information on domestic abuse each week during the month of October.

* Make Your Vote Count

UE will hold classes on election day, November 3.

Absentee Ballot:

You MUST vote in the county where you are registered. If you will not be able to vote in person, remember to request an absentee ballot! You must make a request for an absentee ballot for every election.

Indiana residents can pick up an absentee ballot request form from Karyssa Vasquez in her office at the Ridgeway Center on second floor. All US residents can obtain an absentee ballot request form at www.vote.org. Absentee ballot requests must be mailed to the County Clerk of the county where you are registered.

Absentee ballot requests must be received in Indiana no later than midnight on Thursday, October 22.

Remember to pick up two stamps and one envelope so that you can mail your absentee ballot request (stamp and envelope required) and then complete and mail your absentee ballot when it is mailed to you (secure, state approved envelope provided, stamp required).

Absentee ballots must be received by noon on Monday, November 2.

* Exploring and Adding Majors And Minors

* UE Theatre Hosted Jerrilyn Lanier "Bridging the Gap: A Look into African American Hair and Makeup for Theatre" Workshop

UE Theatre hosted another session of their 2020–21 Workshop Series on Sunday, October 11, featuring Jerrilyn Lanier’s BRIDGING THE GAP: A Look into African American Hair and Makeup for theatre” workshop. This workshop covered the basics working with performers of color. Ms. Lanier talked about tools, products, and problems that performers of color face in the industry.

Jerrilyn Lanier holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Master of Fine Arts in Costume Design and Production from The University of Alabama. She feels fortunate to have trained under Martha Ruskai in makeup and hair, and she has designed costumes for theatre and dance, as well as done freelance wig work and worked in the film industry. Ms. Lanier exclaimed, “I am so excited that Bridging the Gap is opening up conversations that need to be had in the industry. This is a true passion project for me.”

 
* Office of Marketing and Communications Welcomes Parker Franklin

The Office of Marketing and Communications welcomes Parker Franklin as our new copy editor!

Parker comes to UE from Murray, Kentucky, where he was communications specialist.

His first day was Wednesday, October 7. Feel free to welcome Parker to UE by emailing pf60@evansville.edu.

 
* I-House Italy

I-House is back and the first country is Italy. We changed the format and this semester we will be conducting interactive interviews with international students. This Wednesday we will be talking to Francesco Brunetti, or Bruno. He is a junior majoring in exercise science. He is also a soccer player at UE. Besides playing soccer, Bruno loves cooking and he will be sharing more about himself and his culture in Eykamp this Wednesday October 14th at 7pm.

 
* Winter Intersession Courses

Get ahead by taking Winter Intersession online courses. Complete a missing required course, lighten your spring load, and take advantage of the longer winter break. Classes run December 10, 2020 to January 15, 2021, and students may take up to two courses. Discuss it with your advisor and begin registration November 2, 2020.

* Dr. Kopta's CelestHealth Research Group Publishes Four Research Articles

In 2019 and thus far 2020, Dr. Mark Kopta, Professor, Department of Psychology, is a coauthor on four research articles published in the following journals: Journal of Counseling and Clinical Psychology, Psychotherapy Research, Journal of Counseling Psychology, and Journal of College Student Psychotherapy. The other authors are members of the CelestHealth Research Group. CHRG studies the assessment of mental health and psychotherapy outcomes. Dr. Kopta is Founder and Director of CHRG.

 
* Kimberling and Moses Publish Research Paper

Clark Kimberling, professor of mathematics at UE, and Peter Moses, an engineer in England, have jointly authored a research paper, "Mappings from the Plane of a Triangle to a Circumconic." The paper appears in the current issue of Journal for Geometry and Graphics, an international publication based in Austria. Kimberling and Moses also jointly authored, with William R. B. Lionheart of the University of Manchester, England, a recently published research paper entitled "The Geometry of Elliptical Probability Contours for a Fix Using Multiple Lines of Position" in The Journal of Navigation, published by Cambridge University Press. Both papers cite extensively the UE-based website, the Encyclopedia of Triangles Centers.
