Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

* Avoid the Spread of Germs

The University has formed a Task Force to discuss the rapidly evolving concern regarding the coronavirus. We wanted to share that the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to the coronavirus. The CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. For information about handwashing, see CDC’s Handwashing website.

* Campus Mail, Package and In-House Supply Order Update

As UE continues to implement a variety of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, campus mail, packages and In-House supply orders will be handled differently as of Friday, March 13, 2020, until normal operations resume:
• Distribution Services will “hold” mail, packages, and in-house supply orders for campus buildings (i.e. academic buildings) that are “closed” (locked). However, departmental representatives working in closed buildings may pick-up their mail/packages/supply orders from Distribution Services, anytime between 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.

• Distribution Services will deliver mail, packages, and in-house supply orders to “open” (not locked) campus buildings (i.e. Olmsted and Igleheart).

Athletics

* University of Evansville Suspends All Athletic Competition and Practice Activity

Due to concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament has been canceled effective immediately. The game scheduled tonight for the University of Evansville Purple Aces vs. the Southern Illinois University Salukis in Moline, IL, will not be played, and the remainder of the tournament is canceled.

Additionally, the Missouri Valley Conference Presidents unanimously agreed to suspend all conference athletic competition through March 30. Accordingly, the University of Evansville will suspend all athletic competition and practice activity, including non-conference competitions effective immediately.

The University has already taken a variety of proactive steps to advance the safety and well-being of our students, our campus, and the community, and this announcement is consistent with the University’s decision yesterday to suspend face-to-face classes and move to online instruction.

* MVC Announces Cancellation of Women's Basketball Tournament / Suspension of Conference Spring Sports Contests

The Missouri Valley Conference announced today that it has canceled the MVC Women's Basketball Tournament scheduled to begin today at TaxSlayer Center in Moline, Ill.  In addition, the MVC has announced that all Conference spring sports contests have been suspended through March 30, effective immediately.

This does not apply to teams and individuals in NCAA competition.

The main priority of the Conference continues to be the well-being and safety of its student-athletes, administrators, coaches, media and fans.  The league and its institutions will continue to work closely with local governments and health departments in monitoring the COVID-19 situation internationally and domestically.

Additional details regarding the spring sports season and league championships will be provided at a later date.

All tickets for the MVC Women's Basketball Tournament will be refunded at the original point of purchase.
