* Medical Spanish Practice

Medical Spanish practice is designed to help students practice communication skills in Spanish for medical settings. Students may arrive and leave at any time. * Rock Star Beverage Sampling is Coming!

Check it out! Pepsi Bottling Company is sponsoring a “Rockstar” beverage promotional sampling event on Wednesday, August 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for UE students on campus. This sampling event will take place inside the Ridgway University Center, outside the secure dining area under the wall mounted TV monitor. This is an opportunity to try a FREE sample of “Rockstar”. Watch for the Pepsi setup and be sure to stop by.

* 2019 Employee Photography Exhibition

Entries for the 2019 Employee Photo Exhibit will be accepted through Friday, September 6. All employees, as well as retired employees, are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Please take entries to Carol McCraney or Hanns Pieper in the Department of Law, Politics, and Society in the Schroeder School of Business Building (room 50).

Entries should be matted, framed, and suitable for hanging in Krannert Gallery. Color or black/white images are acceptable. Images in frames up to 20” by 16” in size may be submitted.

Please provide the following information for each entry on the back of the image frame:

Your name
Job title/Department
A title for your image (and/or details of the photo)
An estimated $ value for your image (Usually $25)
Photo (including frame) dimensions
Optional: Note if digital or negative
Optional: Note camera type

Presentation cards will be printed with the above information to display on the front of each image.

Entries will be returned in the form that they were submitted at the close of the exhibition.

* Opportunity: Basic Production Copier Training Session

For those who were off campus during the summer months and have returned to campus, there is an additional basic production copier training session scheduled for the D125 black/white and the C70 color copiers. This session will begin at the C70 color production copier located on the 2nd floor of Koch and continue over to the D125 b/w production copier location in OH231. Please email Terry Voges (TV35), if you plan to attend.

* UE Beverage Provider Announcement

Pepsi Beverages Company is the exclusive beverage provider for the University of Evansville and will continue to offer its well-known variety of products that include Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, Orange Crush, Sierra Mist, Gatorade, and RockStar along with other beverage products via vending machines, C-store, catering, concessions, and secure dining fountains. While there is a moderate vending price increase, it has been over five years since the last price increase.

In addition, there are some Pepsi beverage equipment changes/improvements including new beverage fountains in Ridgway, more glass front vending machines and all campus vending machines have been updated with digital credit card readers for added convenience.

Last but not least, keep a watch on announcements about future Pepsi sampling events in AceNotes.

* Production Copier Instructions Available on AceLink

Production Copier basic instructions are available and posted on the New AceLink Copy/Print website. Instructions include Copy a Document from the Glass or Document Feeder; Print a File from a Computer to a Copier; Secure Print a File from a Computer to Copier; Print Documents from USB; and Scan to Email. In addition General Information for both the D125 and C70 is posted. Check it out!

If you plan to use the production copiers and didn't sign up for the installation of necessary print drivers. Please submit an OTS Helpdesk ticket.

* UE Department of Art Prof Todd Matteson accepted into Strictly Functional Pottery National

Congratulations! Prof Todd Matteson's "The Scales" piece has been accepted into the 27th annual Strictly Functional Pottery National in Lancaster, PA. Juror, Malcolm Mobutu Smith, selected about 102 pieces for the show from 98 entrants.

* School of Education Receives $110,000 Grant from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education

The School of Education has received a $110,000 grant from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE) to support programs that recruit, train, and mentor teachers in the STEM fields.

This STEM grant will allow the School of Education to provide full tuition scholarships for Transition to Teaching students enrolled in STEM content areas. The grant will also enable the School of Education to train licensed teachers as well as undergraduate education majors at the University of Evansville to enhance their knowledge of STEM education.

The School of Education will also continue a formal orientation program for new Transition to Teaching students in the math and science fields as well as a mentoring program for math and science graduates with grant funds. The School of Education is proud to positively impact STEM education in our region by increasing the quantity and preparedness of our teachers.

* Professor Clark Kimberling Publishes Article

Clark Kimberling, professor of mathematics, has an article in Games of No Chance 5, a book recently published by Cambridge University Press. The article is entitled "The Wythoff Array and Associated Arrays and Sequences." The book, fifth in a series sponsored by Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Publications, surveys the state of the art in the theory of combinatorial games, that is, games not involving chance or hidden information.

Athletics

* UE Softball Announces Fall Schedule

As the school year wraps up its first week, University of Evansville head softball coach Mat Mundell has announced a 7-game fall schedule for the Purple Aces.

UE will play a total of seven games, five of which will be held inside Cooper Stadium.  On Friday, September 13, Evansville welcomes Wabash Valley Community College for a single game at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, Evansville travels to Grand Park, which is located in Westfield, Ind.  The Aces take on Ball State in a 1:15 p.m. ET game before facing the University of Indianapolis at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Two home weekends follow for UE, beginning on Saturday, Sept. 21 when Parkland Community College comes to Cooper Stadium for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.  Fall play will finish on the 28th with a doubleheader against Olney Central Community College. Game one will begin at 10 a.m.
