* Save the Date - United Way Day of Caring is September 13

The United Way Day of Caring will be Friday, September 13. This year, UE will be partnering again with the local council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Buffalo Trace Council. This location is located just down the road off the Lloyd Expressway (behind the State Hospital).

Join us on this exciting day by signing up for one of the listed volunteer opportunities. Employees who choose to participate in the Day of Caring do not need to use a vacation day, but do need to get approval from your supervisor.

Info You Should Know

* New Procedure for Contracts and Other Agreements Submitted to Fiscal Affairs

A new email address has been created for all affiliation agreements, clinical agreements, service agreements, Harlaxton agreements, and all contracts normally submitted for review by the Vice President of Fiscal Affairs and Administration, Donna Teague. The address is: contracts@evansville.edu. Please send all contracts to this email. This email is being monitored and is specifically for contracts and agreements. This will assist in speeding up the review process and required signatures.

* Bookrush Help Needed at the Bookstore

The UE Bookstore is looking for a person to work for a couple of weeks during Fall rush. Estimated days would be July 15-31, full or part time. The ideal candidate should be available Monday-Friday. This would be perfect for a friend or relative that needs a little extra cash. Duties would included watching the textbook area, helping students, and organizing the store. If you know of anyone interested please have them contact the Bookstore. UE students would not be a good match as we need someone here most of the day during the first week of school.

* Weinbach Construction Update
  • Early next week, Weinbach Ave from Walnut to Lincoln will open to one lane of traffic each direction.
  • Beginning 7/29, the Bellemeade intersection will be shut down for thirty days.
  • After the 30 day closure at Bellemeade, Weinbach willl be milled and resurfaced from Bellemeade intersection up to Walnut.  This should happen around the first week of September.

* Distribution Services/Copy Services Phase III Announcement

Phase III of the Distribution Services/Copy Service’s Production Copier transition is approaching as production copier training and the reduction of satellite copiers is scheduled.

* Snack Vending Provider Change

On May 23, 2019, UE’s local snack vending provider, VendAir, was acquired by Canteen Services Co. Inc. of Kentuckiana. Canteen is a subsidiary of the Compass Group and the nation’s largest vending services company.

Over the course of the next several weeks, Canteen will be inspecting, cleaning and servicing machines in preparation for the upcoming fall semester. They will also be adding credit card readers and their name on snack vending machines around campus.

* United States Postal Service Price Increases

As of June 23, 2019, several U.S.P.S. price changes took effect June 23. These include dimensional weight changes that affect Parcel Select, Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express.

Under the changes, mailers are required to provide dimensions when a parcel measures over 1 cubic foot for Priority Mail Express; Priority Mail (all zones); and Parcel Select (all zones and entries), except Parcel Select Lightweight service.
There also are postage statement updates associated with these price changes.

Additionally, First-Class Mail International flat pieces, which previously were available for up to 4 pounds, are now limited to 15.999 ounces.

Athletics

* Swimming and Diving Releases 2019-20 Schedule

In his first season at Evansville, head swimming and diving coach Stu Wilson announced the upcoming schedule for the 2019-20 season on Thursday (July 18).

The schedule features four home meets and eight road contests for the Purple Aces.

"The team and the coaching staff are excited about the upcoming season," Wilson said. "We have a great opportunity to make it a very eventful year."

The six-month schedule kicks off with a trip to the Butler Quad on September 29 before the home opener against Eastern Illinois on October 12. Six days later the Aces travel to Lebanon, Ill. to take on McKendree University.

Rounding out the month of October the Aces face conference foe Valparaiso on the road. Events return home on November 2 as the Aces take on Arkansas at Little Rock and Indiana State with a women's only meet.

The Aces will then travel to Birmingham-Southern College (November 9) and the SIU Invitational (November 21-23) to close out 2019.

Opening up the spring season with a trip to Missouri State (January 11) before returning home for a men's only event against Ball State (January 17).

Closing out the regular season, the Purple Aces head to St. Louis on January 18, then are home against Illinois State (women only) on January 24 and at Southern Illinois on February 1.

"The schedule will be challenging but the team will be ready for anything that will come their way," Wilson said. "We hope to see a lot of the fans come out and support our team at all of the meets."

The women's Missouri Valley Conference championship is held in Columbia, Mo, February 19-22, while the men will compete in the MAC Championship March 4-7.

The official booster club of the University of Evansville men’s basketball team returns in 2019 as the Aces Assist Club is open to all Purple Aces supporters.

There are three levels that you can support the program.  Those levels and benefits include:

Additional household memberships are available to other people living in your household and is available for $500. This person will receive the All-Conference level benefits. Gear will be branded at primary member’s level.

Those interested in joining can do so by filling out the form in the brochure linked above or by calling the men’s basketball office at 812-488-2553. A similar club for the women’s basketball team is in the process of being created. Details will be available in the near future.

One of the largest events for the club is the Aces Golf Scramble, which will take place on Thursday, September 12 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Newburgh. Two start times will be on tap with the first shotgun start set for 8 a.m. and the second one heading on course at 1 p.m.

Cost for a foursome is $750 with individuals set for $200. Aces Assist Club members will receive the single entry fee associated with your giving level. To confirm your group, individual or start time, fill out the form above or contact the UE Basketball Office at 812-488-3800.
