The University of Evansville baseball team officially released its 2019 schedule, and it's poised to be a true test for the Aces, including a weekend series with in-state rival Indiana.
"We have put together an outstanding schedule for our student-athletes to compete at the highest NCAA level", said head coach Wes Carroll. This non-conference schedule is made up of many power 5 conference teams to help prepare us for the Missouri Valley Conference. We have some great home games so that our fans and the local baseball community can watch great Division 1 baseball."
UE opens the season on the road, taking on Southern Conference runner-up Mercer in Macon, Georgia February 15-17. The following Wednesday sends the Aces down to Nashville to face off against Southeastern Conference perennial power Vanderbilt. That leads into a weekend series at Little Rock-Arkansas of the Sun Belt Conference. March begins with a trip to Richmond, Kentucky, to take part in the Eastern Kentucky University Baseball Challenge, where they'll take on Atlantic Coast Conference power Boston College for two games, followed by two more against the host Colonels of the Ohio Valley Conference.
The home opener comes on Tuesday, March 5th with Eastern Illinois of the OVC coming to Charles Braun Stadium. That weekend will see Big Ten stalwart Iowa making the trek to Evansville for a three game weekend series. Next, the University of Southern Indiana renews its crosstown rivalry with the Aces on Tuesday March 12 with the 2019 edition of "the Battle at the Braun". Former conference rival, Creighton, now of the Big East, arrives on campus for a weekend set on March 15. A week later, the Aces take on another Big East opponent, Xavier, in Cincinnati, Ohio, for three more contests.
The league schedule begins with a road trip to Peoria, Illinois, to take on Bradley on the weekend of March 29-30. The home MVC opener brings conference power Dallas Baptist University to the Braun April 5-7.
Then comes the series with the Hoosiers. The Aces will open the four game set at home, Friday April 12. The series then shifts to Bloomington for a doubleheader the next day. The fourth and final game with be played that Sunday, also in Bloomington.
Sprinkled in between Evansville's weekend series are home-and-away midweek match-ups with Tennessee-Martin, Austin Peay, Austin Peay, and Murray State.
The regular season concludes on the road at Illinois State, May 16-18, with the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in Normal, Illinois, May 21-25.
