* Re-Thinking Diversity Summer Series: Dialogue on Race

This summer the Office of Diversity Initiatives will offer 1-hour sessions that provide interactive dialogue to allow campus participants to think and discuss about how to re-think everything you ever knew about race. The sessions will provide solution-oriented steps and strategies as well as resources for participants.

Participants must RSVP to lw161@evansville.edu by 5:00 p.m. on the Monday of the week of the session.

Sessions are intended for any campus members and friends (i.e., faculty, staff, students, alumni or administrators). Anyone attending all of the sessions will be given a certificate of completion and others a certificate of participation from the office of Diversity Initiatives at the end of the summer sessions.

On August 1, Robert Jones will be the presenter. Jones is the chairman and CEO at Old National Bank and chairs the diversity committee on the UE Board of Trustees.

His talk is titled "Inspiring Hope, Activism, and Encouraging Empathy for All."

This session will help to uncover bias, discrimination and injustice with campus members. The session will discuss the importance of not leaving us with overwhelming feelings of hopelessness and despair. It can easily happen when you consider the monumental task of making the world more equitable and just. Compassion and empathy go a long way in helping campus members understand race and racism. This session will provide opportunities for campus members to hear the thoughts and feelings of people most impacted by racism.

The session will be in Ridgway University Center, Eykamp Hall, Room 253 at noon.

UE has been awarded a grant of funds in the amount of $100,000 from the Charles E. Schell Foundation, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee. These funds will become a revolving loan fund for UE, as students make repayments, UE can continue lending to other students. This is UE’s second grant from the Schell Foundation; the first coming in 2009. We at UE are grateful for this support from the Schell Foundation.
