* Faculty Information Session on e-book options

There will be a presentation by RedShelf and the UE Bookstore in regard to inclusive Access e-books on Monday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Library Board Room. This is a popular new trend in providing course materials to students. RedShelf will be doing a demonstration as to how it works and how it can save students money. Faculty who would like to attend should email Doug Gustwiller at dg57@evansville.edu so that enough space has been set up for the presentation. If you have questions, please contact the UE Bookstore. Inclusive Access is designed for e-books only and NOT for print versions of textbooks.

* COMM 380 Offered ONLINE in Summer II

Would one class that fulfills several general education requirements and teaches valuable life skills interest you? Do you want to reduce your course load during the regular fall or spring semesters? How would you like to take such a course NO MATTER where you plan to be this summer? How about a course that provides useful communication knowledge that can be used every day both personally and professionally?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider enrolling in COMM 380 ONLINE (Intercultural Communication) offered in Summer Session II.

COMM 380 meets criteria for General Education Outcome 9 (Understanding of Core Concepts of Society, Human Behavior, and Civic Knowledge) and Overlay Component A (Global Diversity: International Component).

For more information, contact professor emeritus of communication Dean Thomlison at dt4@evansville.edu.

The only skills you need are the ability to pick up trash or hold a trash bag (and your mom told me you have those skills)!

If you are interested, please email UE associate professor of biology Noah Gordon at ng62@evansville.edu so we can get a head count and keep you informed of any weather related changes.

* Maass signs book contract with Cornell University Press

Richard W. Maass, assistant professor of political science, has signed a contract with Cornell University Press for the publication of his book, currently titled Annexation: How Democracy and Xenophobia Limited U.S. Territorial Expansion (title may change). The culmination of nearly 10 years of research and writing, this book examines why the United States annexed the territories it did (e.g., Louisiana, Florida, California) and equally importantly, why it did not annex the territories it didn't (e.g., Canada, Mexico, Cuba). Based on 23 case studies of U.S. foreign policy decision-making between 1775 and 1898, Maass argues that the pattern of U.S. territorial expansion was most constrained not by material factors, but rather by the domestic political and normative consequences of annexing large alien populations. With a final manuscript deadline set for January 2019, expect the book to be available later next year.

* Plikuhn publishes chapter in new edited volume

The chapter is part of the new edited volume, "Learning from Each Other: Refining the Practice of Teaching in Higher Education," set for release on August 10, from University of California Press.

* UE Town Hall event to take place on June 21

The University of Evansville athletic department will be hosting a “Town Hall” exclusively for 2017-18 men’s basketball season ticket holders as a thank you to our most loyal fans. The free event will take place inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse on Thursday, June 21 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Season ticket holders from last season may also bring two non-season ticket holder guests who are interested in getting on board and learning more about the program.

Those in attendance will hear from head men’s basketball coach Walter McCarty, his coaching staff and UE administration on their vision for the program and some of the new initiatives being planned. There will be the opportunity for pictures and autographs with Coach McCarty at the end of the event.

Anyone who places a season ticket deposit or renews their season tickets by noon on June 21 before the start of the town hall will be entered to win one of 14 great prizes. Since June 21 coincides with the NBA Draft, we will announce the prize during the Town Hall with a “draft-style” show that will also be streamed via Facebook Live.  Season ticket holder renewals were sent out by the UE ticket office earlier this week.
