What's Happening Today

* BSU Presents Mark Rust in "Songs of the Civil Rights Movement"

Mark Rust, a multi-talented singer & musician from Woodstock NY, will present “Songs of the Civil Rights Movement” in the Ridgway University Center “Rademacher’s Lounge” on Tuesday, March 22nd, at 8pm. Mark starred in the Broadway Musical Hit Pump Boys & Dinettes, has appeared in People Magazine performing with Pete Seeger and Peter Paul & Mary, and has been a guest on the Phil Donahue Show. Mark has also been nominated for a Campus Entertainer of the Year Award by the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA).

The program is a moving celebration of the songs that provided encouragement and comfort to an entire movement during one of the most important periods of social & political change in America.

* UE Gives Back

UE Gives Back is April 2nd! Group Leaders, please complete sign-up sheets and send them to Taylor Shelton at ts142@evansville.edu by March 25th to ensure that enough T-shirts are ordered to accommodate all volunteers. The sooner sign-up sheets are turned in, the better.

Also, there are many volunteer opportunities available in the coming weeks. If you are in need of hours or would just like to spend some time serving your community please drop by the Volunteer Services Office in Ridgway or contact Taylor Shelton at TS142 or Julia Bynum at JB495.

 
* Racism, Stereotyping and Prejudice: How do we handle it?

What questions do you have about racism, stereotyping and prejudice in society today? “Are stereotypes factual?” “Is racism still practiced in today’s societies?” UE psychology department Professor, Margaret Stevenson, will be answering these questions and more during an informative presentation at the upcoming weekly meeting of the Black Student Union. Dr. Stevenson will address the truths and myths about racism, stereotyping and prejudice in society today. A question and answer session will be available after her presentation. The Black Student Union meets weekly on Tuesdays at 5pm in SOBA 273.
 

 
* Spudz Day for Easter Seals

Come to Spudz-N-Stuff on the East Side on Tuesday, March 22nd, to help raise money for Easter Seals and the Rehabilitation Center! $1 of every meal purchased that day will be donated to Easter Seals. Spudz Day starts at 10:30am and continues until 9:00pm at 815 S. Green River Road. For more information please contact David Riedford at dr77@evansville.edu

 
* Open Reception

On March 23, 2011, a reception for guest speaker Larry Reed will be held in Dunnigan Lounge (SOBA 160). This opportunity to talk with Mr. Reed and welcome him to campus will last from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Come enjoy some free snacks, and meet a very interesting man!

* Spotlight on Faculty and Staff

Come see faculty and staff show off their musical talents while raising money for a good cause this Friday, March 18 at 7:30 pm in Wheeler Concert Hall.  Admission is $1.  Money will be donated to an Indiana Student Music Therapy Scholarship as well as the UE Music Therapy Association.  The following will perform during this fun event: Dr. Bryan Lynch, Dr. John Meredig, Juan del Valle, Dr. Matthew Knoester, Dr. Mark Valenzuela, Dr. Joyce Stamm, Cindy Jones, Dr. William Morrison, and David Fentress.

 

 
* EXSS Forum on April 6

There will be an Exercise and Sports Science Forum on Wednesday, April 6 at 6 p.m.in Smythe Lecture Hall (Room 170), Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Building.  A panel of professionals from the EXSS field will answer students’ questions and provide information about many different career paths.  Following the forum, there will be time to network with the panel.  If you have questions, please contact Career Services, 488-1083/career@evansville.edu or Sam Cartwright at sc210.

Info You Should Know

* Pick Up Commencement Announcements Today

Graduates who ordered announcements from the Bookstore on March 15 and before can pick up their announcments at the Bookstore at their earliest convenience.  Don't forget to allow yourself plenty of time for mailing your announcements to guest.

 
* Special Olympics Volunteers Needed

Special Olympics is looking for volunteers to help with track practices. Practices Start on Saturday, March 19 at 4:00 PM at Memorial HS track. Practices will be every Saturday through April. Volunteers do not need any track experience and are needed to take times and measurements. For more information, contact Susan Adler at 812-867-5592 or susan.adler@insightbb.com

 
* April 1 Deadline to Drop With a "W"

Don’t forget that Friday, April 1, is the last day to drop a spring class.  Drops will be posted with a ‘W’ grade.  If you need to drop a class, fill out a yellow Add/Drop Form (available in the Registrar’s Office in Olmsted Hall room 106), get signatures from your advisor and class instructor, and return the completed form to the Registrar’s Office no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, April 1.

 
* Tickets for Mini Golf Classic on Sale

The women of Chi Omega will be hosting their annual fundraiser benefiting Albion Fellows Bacon Center, an organization devoted to preventing domestic violence and sexual assault. The event consists of miniature golf and will be held on April 2. It costs $10 to play. Sign up as an individual or in teams of four! People can sign up this week in Ridgway during lunch and dinner hours. Join us for fun and support a great cause!

 
* Volunteers Needed!

Holiday Retirement Village is looking for volunteers to help them set up their St. Patrick's Day event on March 17 and 18.If you are interested please contact Volunteer Services Office at vso@evansville.edu.

Ticket sales are coordinated by the Office Staff Association.  The entire purchase price will be donated to the War on Hunger.

3) Purchase designated non-perishable food with cash or Flex to be donated directly to the War on Hunger.

Watch for these food items available at Café Court starting Wednesday!

This Drive ends at Noon on March 22. All donations go directly to the Evansville Salvation Army Food Pantry & Soup Kitchen.

 

 
* Claim Your Same Residence Hall Room

Students who wish to claim their same Residence Hall room for the 2011-12 academic year should come to the Office of Residence Life on the second floor of Ridgway University Center between 2-5 p.m. on Thursday March 17. Be sure you have submitted your Housing and Food Service Contract, available on WebAdvisor, prior to selecting your room. If you cannot come at your designated time because of class, work, etc., you may send someone else in your place. This person would be selecting your housing for you. See this Web site for more information about the Housing Assignments Process (including changing residence halls), or email UEHousing.
