Upcoming Events

* Auditions Set for Children's Roles in Upcoming UE Musical "Gypsy"

The University of Evansville Department of Theatre and Department of Music will hold auditions at 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 29, in Shanklin Theatre for children ages 8 to 14 for the upcoming musical "Gypsy." Both male and female roles are available and require a young actor to be able to sing and tap dance. Interested children should prepare a short song and be prepared to learn a dance routine. It is preferred, but not required, that the song is from a Broadway musical. An accompanist will be provided.

Rehearsals will begin in September, and children must be available for all performances, Nov. 11-13 and 17-20. Performances will take place in Shanklin Theatre.

To register for the audition, please contact Sharla Cowden, University of Evansville Theatre marketing director, at 812-488-2747 or theatre@evansville.edu

* Walter McCarty to Discuss Album on WUEV

Evansville native and former professional basketball player Walter McCarty will be in WUEV’s “Jazz Café” on Friday from 4 until 5 p.m. to discuss his new album “Emotionally” with WUEV Jazz Producer Paul Mattingly.  McCarty and Mattingly will talk about the album and McCarty’s upcoming performance at the Victory Theater on Aug. 27, while also playing cuts from the album.

McCarty played 10 seasons in the NBA, including eight with the Boston Celtics, after helping the University of Kentucky Wildcats to the 1996 national championship.  McCarty grew up in Evansville and was a standout at nearby Harrison High School.  Following his professional basketball career, McCarty has served as an assistant basketball coach to Rick Pitino at the University of Louisville, and spent last season as a member of the Indiana Pacers’ coaching staff.  “Emotionally” is McCarty’s second album.

* United Way Day of Caring Sign Up Is Underway

Each year UE supports United Way by allowing employees to volunteer during business hours on the United Way Day of Caring. This year it is Friday, Sept. 9. UE employees who are interested in participating are asked to complete the volunteer form at this link. Employees DO need supervisor approval, but are not required to take leave time to participate. UE will volunteer again this year with Evansville ARC and ARC Industries on several projects. The projects are listed on the volunteer form. Please indicate your preference of projects and we will try to accommodate your choice. UE has been a proud leader in Day of Caring participation in past years. This year President Tom and Dr. Sharon Kazee will be joining our team and they encourage your participation. We would like to have many more volunteers to join us this year!

All Day of Caring workers are invited to an early morning breakfast at the Centre before starting work. Evansville ARC and United Way greatly appreciate your time, hard work, and willingness to serve our community.  Thank you!
Please fill out the volunteer form and return it to Brian Conner in Ridgway University Center, room 229, by Aug. 10 (if you want to be able to choose your T-shirt size) and no later than Aug. 29 (your choice of T-shirt size can not be guaranteed).
