* Kevin Kaczmarski Named Joe Carter Player of the Year

University of Evansville outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski was named the Joe Carter Player of the Year on Tuesday, in a release made by the Missouri Valley Conference. Kaczmarski is the first player in program history to receive the Player of the Year honor in the MVC. Kaczmarski was also recognized on the First Team All-Conference Team and named to the All-Defensive Team as pitcher Brodie Harkness was also Honorable Mention All-Conference.

A senior outfielder from Cary, Ill., Kaczmarski leads all Division I baseball players in batting average (.478), on-base percentage (.554), and triples (9). He also has the third best slugging percentage (.753) in the nation. Kaczmarski leads the Purple Aces in batting average, hits (85), doubles (19), triples (nine), runs batted in (55), total bases (134), slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and stolen bases (13).He put together a career-high 22 game hitting streak earlier this season and has only gone hitless in five of his 44 games played this spring.

“It is a great day for UE baseball to have its first ever MVC Player of the Year,” said Evansville head coach Wes Carroll. “He earned it by having one of the best seasons I’ve ever seen. Every day Kevin came to the yard focused and determined to help his team win. It is great to see him get rewarded for his efforts.”

A freshman left-hander from Bowmanville, Ont., Harkness is 6-3 this spring with a 4.25 earned run average. He is second on the team in wins and ERA this season. Harkness has posted seven quality starts in his 13 appearances and has walked only 17 batters in 78.1 innings pitched.

“Brodie has had a great year for a freshman in our program,” added Carroll. “He has a very bright future and will be leader on the pitching staff for years to come.”
