* Summer Clay Workshop

Discover your creative potential in a highly creative, informed, supportive and relaxed environment at a clay workshop this summer.  Instruction is customized for the beginning ceramicist and for those more experienced in clay.  Workshop participants will have the opportunity to develop their own clay bodies, formulate glazes, and experiment with various types of firings including: oxidation, reduction, raku, and horse hair.  The workshop will consist of traditional methods on the potter’s wheel and hand-building techniques. Previous knowledge of ceramics is helpful, but not a requirement for participation in this workshop.  (Upon registration, students will be provided with a list of basic tools required for success in class.  Clay and glazes are available in class.)

Info You Should Know

* Time Card Approval Deadline Extended

Since Monday, July 4 is a holiday, the deadline for time card approval by supervisors has been extended to noon on Tuesday, July 5.  Please contact Gloria Spencer at ext 2159 if you have any questions.

* Health Tip: Add Some Edge to Your Veg

It can be easy to get stuck in a veggie slump. Try at least one new vegetable this week to diversify your nutrients and stimulate your pallet. Add it to a tried-and-true recipe like a stir-fry or pasta dish so you can savor new flavors without feeling overwhelmed. Visit the nurse any Thursday, 9–11 a.m., in Olmsted Hall lobby, too, for new recipes and other helpful health information.

* Libraries Announces Independence Day Holiday Hours

UE Libraries will observe the following schedule of hours during the Independence Day holiday. Contact William Louden, University Librarian, with questions at 488.2376  or
•  Friday, July 1st:         7:45 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Saturday, July 2:   CLOSED
• Sunday, July 3:      CLOSED
• Monday, July 4:     CLOSED
• Tuesday, July 5:     Resume Regular Summer Hours

* Snack Vending Announcement

Beginning the week of July 1, there will be a price increase of 10 cents on vending snacks such as cookies, large chips, crackers (Cheese Nips, etc.), gum, mints, candy and pastry. The price of other vending snacks such as small chips and sandwich crackers will remain unchanged. This price increase is the result of continued higher costs in raw food materials (potatoes, corn, vegetable oil, chocolate, etc.), labor and fuel related to snack production. UE’s contracted snack vendor, VendAir Vending, has absorbed across the board cost increases for over two years through productivity and cost saving initiatives avoiding prior price increases. However, snack production costs have escalated to the point that VendAir is no longer able to absorb the added costs without adjustments to the consumer. If you have questions or comments, please contact Kim Winsett in Administrative Services at extension 2940 or email at

* UE Language Lab Looking for Research Participants

The University of Evansville Language Lab is looking for children to participate in Language Development Research.
