University of Evansville head volleyball coach Manolo Concepcion has announced the signing of Aylin Baghdady to a National Letter of Intent to begin play for the Purple Aces this fall.
Baghdady, a 6-1 right side/outside hitter, comes to Evansville from Amriswil, Switzerland where she was a member of the Swiss Junior National Team. Aside from her play with her country, Baghdady also played for VC Kanti Schauffhausen.
“I am absolutely thrilled that Aylin is joining the UE Volleyball family. She is a smart, charismatic player that will add experience to our team. Her ability to play in both pin positions allows us to have a deeper roster,” Concepcion said. “We expect her to make an immediate impact with her offensive skills in the court, and maturity in the locker room. She was nationally recruited, including by squads from the ACC.”
“The fact that she chose our school as her educational destination, exemplifies the credibility that we are building in the program and the excellence that we aspire to continue to have in academics.”
Her experience spans all over the European continent as she won multiple Austrian Junior Championships. Following her successful international career, she was recruited by several powerhouse schools around the United States.
Volleyball is a sport that runs in her blood as her father, Jalal Baghdady, was one of the best players at the national and international levels in his time.
Born in Friedrichshafen, Germany, she plans on majoring in Pre-Law at UE.
“The 2014 Class is designed for long-term development. It will be a good mix between raw and experienced talent,” Concepcion added. “Plus, we have a returning class that is all-in, willing to mentor and lead this young team. I am looking forward to the process of this journey.”
