All members of the campus and local community are encouraged to attend I-House: Russia. I-House features a different international student each week sharing their story of life in their country. This week, Olga Kuzmina will discuss what her life is like in Russia. Attendees will learn about culture, lifestyle, food, and so much more. The Newman Club will be in Ridgway University Center this week collecting money for their annual Lenten collection. This year, donations will go to an Evansville native and UE alum who is ministering in Vladivostok, Russia. Father Myron Effing has been serving as a missionary in Russia since 1991, and his mission society sponsors many activities to support the poor in eastern Russia, from Boy Scouts, to food and medical assistance, to Alcoholics Anonymous. Students Interested in starting a Philosophy Club should attend a meeting on Wednesday, April 16, from 4-5 pm, in Room 71, Schroeder Family School of Business Building. Come out and enjoy this meeting and discuss how we would like to move forward with regard to beginning a Philosophy Club next fall. Treats to be provided.

During the period of April 14 through April 25, benefit-eligible employees may enroll in the UE health, dental, and ACES flexible spending account benefit plans. This period also provides an opportunity for employees to make changes between levels of coverage. It is the only chance for benefit eligible employees to enroll or make changes until the next open enrollment period unless you have a qualifying change in status.

Enrollment/change forms are available during open enrollment meetings and in the Office of Human Resources. If you don't want to make any change to your coverage, you do not need to complete any forms (unless you want to enroll in the ACES flexible spending account for 2014-15).

Please consider attending one of the following open enrollment meetings to learn about exciting new benefits that will be offered beginning June 1, including voluntary life insurance and an onsite medical clinic for employees and dependents covered on UE health insurance. The location for "Fast for a Day" has been changed to Grabill Lounge in Neu Chapel. It had originally been scheduled to take place in Ridgway University Center. The date and time of the event - Thursday, April 17 from 7:15-8:15 p.m. - has NOT changed.

The Tri-State Women in Computing and Engineering (TWICE) organization is partnering with the University of Evansville to offer “The Beauty of Engineering”, a career discovery event for girls in grades 4 through 8. 

When: Saturday, April 26
Where: University of Evansville Koch Center for Engineering and Science
Who: Girls in grades 4 through 8
What: A morning of learning about engineering and computer science through hands on projects.
Cost: $7 per participant
Registration limited to 200 participants.
Registration deadline: April 18, 2014 or until pre-registration reaches 200, whichever comes first.

This event will consist of a rotation through 4 workshops with projects in civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.  The activities for civil and mechanical session are brand new this year.  Check in will begin at 7:30 a.m. and close at 8:00 a.m.  The final rotation should be complete by 11:15 a.m.

Rotation stations will be staffed by professional women in the fields of engineering and computer science. 

Pre-registration is required. Organizations are welcome with at least one but no more than two responsible adults rotating with the organization.  Individuals are also welcome and parents can drop off and pick up.

As the end of the University’s fiscal year approaches on May 31, Administrative Services and Accounting and Audit announce the following procedures related to purchases of goods and services during May.

Pcard Purchases
• Pcard purchases posting to the statement on or before May 21 (cycle end date) will be paid from FY 2013-2014 funds. Most shipments post on your Pcard within three to four business days. However, vendors have up to nine business days to post transactions.
• Pcard purchases posting from May 22 through May 31 will be paid from FY 2014-2015 (new year) funds, unless the item purchased exceeds $500. Purchases exceeding $500 will be paid from FY 2013-2014 funds.

Office Depot Orders
• Normally, Office Depot orders placed by 3 p.m. for items in stock are delivered the next business day. Upon delivery, the transaction should post on your Pcard within three to four business days.
• Office Depot orders received by May 13 will likely post on the May 21 Pcard Cycle and be paid from FY 2013-2014 funds.
• Office Depot orders placed and received but posting to the Pcard between May 22 and May 31 will be paid from FY 2014-2015 funds, unless the items purchased exceeds $500. Purchases exceeding $500 will be paid from FY 2013-2014 funds.

Purchase Orders
• Approved requisitions converted into purchase orders and delivered by May 31 will be paid from FY 2013-2014 funds.
• Approved requisitions indicating FY 2014-2015 written on them in red ink will be processed with a delivery date of June 1 or later.
• Backordered Purchase Orders not delivered by May 31 will be paid from FY 2014-2015 funds.

Blanket Orders
• All FY 2013-2014 Blanket orders expire on May 31, 2014.
• Approved Requisitions for FY 2014-2015 (new year) Blanket Orders may now be submitted with June 1, 2014 through May 31, 2015 effective dates.
• Backordered Blanket Purchase Order items not delivered by May 31, 2014 will be paid from FY 2014-2015 funds.

Requisitions for Check Request
• All services completed and items purchased less than $100 and on campus by May 31, must be submitted on a requisition to Accounting & Audit by 5 p.m. on Monday, June 9 to be paid from FY 2013-2014 funds.

• The requisitions must have appropriate approvals and funds available to be charged to FY 2013-2014.
• Any requisitions less than $100 not submitted by this time or those submitted without appropriate approvals or without funds available will be charged to your budget in FY 2014-2015.

• All services completed and items purchased for $100 or more and on campus by May 31 must be submitted on a requisition to Accounting and Audit by Monday, June 16 to be paid from FY 2013-2014 funds. Any requisitions not submitted by this time will be charged to your budget in FY 2014-2015.
 

The Department of Marketing is looking for students to blog about their 2014-15 UE experiences. Bloggers will receive $250 per semester upon fulfilling the requirements which include:
• Share about campus life at least twice a month. Posts can include written posts, photos, or videos.

Interested students should e-mail Kim McDonald (km117@evansville.edu) a sample post. Students selected to blog will be asked to write an intro post and provide a photo.

Family, friends and loved ones of Dr. Marvin E. Hartig are pleased to announce the application process for the Dr. Marvin E. Hartig Memorial Scholarship.  This scholarship is dedicated to the loving memory of Dr. Hartig, Dean of Evansville College’s Evening College in 1967, and administrator for the Center for Advanced Study, director of the Evansville chapter of the American Institute of Banking (AIB), and the international student advisor.  In 1974, Dr. Hartig was appointed Dean of Academic Services.  He retired in 1984 after serving his alma mater for thirty-five years and passed away in 2007.

Applicants must be sophomores in 2014-15 and must show demonstrated financial need on the 2014-15 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Preference will be given to a student working while being enrolled as a full-time student.  

International students are also encouraged to apply and should include in their essay any particular factors impacting their financial need and how the scholarship money will benefit them since international students do not file the FAFSA.

Applicants must submit the completed application (pdf) and a typed statement (not to exceed one page), describing themselves, their scholastic and career goals, why they need this scholarship, and how the scholarship proceeds might be used.   

Completed applications are to be sent to the Office of Financial Aid by June 1, 2013.  Decisions will be announced by August 1, 2013.  Applications may be emailed to financialaid@evansville.edu.

The Annual Student Art Exhibition is over and the votes have been tabulated! Thank you to everyone who visited the Peterson Gallery and cast a vote for their favorite piece of artwork. There were a record number of votes cast again this year. So at this time, the Department of Art is pleased to announce the winner of the 2014 People's Choice Award: Madeline Satkamp for her oil and mixed media painting, titled "Lush". Madeline is a junior, Art Education major from Georgetown, Indiana. Please join the Department of Art faculty, staff and students in congratulating Madeline on her award.

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) University of Evansville Student Chapter has received the Certificate of Commendation for its outstanding activities for this past year.  The student chapter's accomplishments were awarded due to the enthusiasm and hard work of its student officers and members.  Zach Neukam (president), Kilian Sweet (vice president), Abby Browder (secretary), Josh Hood (treasurer), and Hannah Okray (historian) served as student officers in 2013.

The UE ASCE student chapter participated in a variety of activities, from community service projects and professional meetings to social events.  Our chapter is among the sixteen schools out of 292 student chapters to receive this national honor from ASCE.

Congratulations to Doug and Sophia Cook on the birth of their son Ruben Manuel. Ruben was born April 8 at 7:07 a.m. at Deaconess Women's Hospital in Evansville. He was 21 inches long and weighed 8.2 lbs. Doug is a day sergeant in the Office of Safety and Security and is also a graduate of UE.
 

Douglas Reed, Professor Emeritus of Music/University Organist performed a recital of organ works by Johann Sebastian Bach and William Albright on the new Martin Pasi organ at St. Lukie's Episcopal Church, Louisville (Anchorage), Kentucky on February 16, 2014. The concert preceded a Choral Evensong service during which Dr. Reed also accompanied St. Luke's Choir in a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by George Dyson.

Professor of History James MacLeod has signed a contract with The History Press to write a book titled "Evansville and the Second World War". It will appear in the Fall of 2015, and will focus on the social, political and industrial history of the city during the War

The Fitness Center Staff would like to thank everyone who helped make the 2014 annual Bike Race a huge success. It was a great example of the UE community working together for a day of food, fun, and fellowhip. The University of Evansville athletics department invites fans to take a survey regarding their experiences at Purple Aces basketball games over the previous season.

Fans are asked to click on the survey link above and give you opinion on certain aspects of Aces games at the Ford Center. Those questions include items such as game experience, in-game promotions, halftime acts and other facets of the Aces basketball experience. You may also include suggestions for next season

The survey is open to those who attended at least one basketball game during the 2013-14 campaign. You are also encouraged to send the link to family and friends who wish to share their feedback.

Make sure to fill out your contact information at the end of the survey as those who do so will have a chance to win a $100 Quail Crossing Golf Course gift certificate.

The closing date for the survey is Monday, May 5.
