What's Happening Today

* Prioritization Author Training

Prioritization Author Training will take place on Thursday, December 12, in Hyde Hall 126.  The Academic Author Training will take place from 10:00-11:00 am that morning with the Administrative Author Training taking place that afternoon from 4:00-5:00 pm.

 
* Prioritization System Training

Primary report authors who will be submitting reports on behalf of their programs to the Academic and Administrative Programs Committees are asked to attend one of the following 45 minute training sessions. The system training will include information on how to access templates and supplemental data files, as well as how to use the LiveText system to submit reports to the committees. All sessions will be held in SB 68.

 

 
* Retirement Reception Honoring JoAnn Laugel

Please join us for a reception on Thursday, December 12 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Ridgway University Center honoring JoAnn Laugel, director of financial aid, who will be retiring on December 20. She began at the University of Evansville in 1980, a 33-year career.

Over the years JoAnn has selflessly served not only UE’s students, parents, coaches, faculty, and fellow administrators, but has offered herself as a resource to families and high school guidance counselors in the Tri-state area through various outreach efforts. She has volunteered at every College Goal Sunday for the past 24 years, quite often as the main presenter. She has also presented at high school financial aid nights in the surrounding area every year since 1993, serving as the Southwest Regional Financial Aid Night representative since 1999.

JoAnn has both served and been honored by the Indiana Student Financial Aid Association and the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. Of note are:

• 2001 - Began serving on ISFAA Executive Committee; has served as Commissioner for Internal Operations and Training & Development
• 2004-05 - Recipient of the ISFAA Distinguished Service Award
• 2007 to present - Governmental Relations Committee
• 2007-08 - ISFAA President
• 2008-09 - chaired the ISFAA Leadership Symposium held in February 2009 for new ISFAA members
• 2009 - MASFAA Conference Program Committee for the Minneapolis Conference
• 2010 - Chair of the 75th ISFAA Planning Committee
• 2011 - MASFAA State Leadership Award

* Bookstore Book Buyback

The end of the semester book buyback at the UE Bookstore begins Wednesday, Dec 11 at NOON and runs until Wednesday, Dec 18 at 5PM promptly. We freely quote any book regardless of where purchased or if used on campus. We have promotions and discounts during the event including daily $100 shopping spree drawings. Sell books as often as you like. Please bring your student ID. Also all rental books rented through the Bookstore at due back by Wednesday, Dec 18 at 5PM as well. Starting Monday, December 2 and running through Saturday, December 14, the UE Bookstore will be offering special pricing on a variety of items. Each day a new item will be added to list of special offerings. This special sale ends December 14. * University Worship Celebrates Advent III and Winter Baccalaureate this Sunday

University Worship Celebrates Advent III and Winter Baccalaureate this Sunday in Neu Chapel, at10:30 a.m. with guest preacher, Rev. Tom Heaton.

Since 2000, Tom has had a strong connection with the country of Guatemala and has worked to help make a difference in the life of the Guatemalan people. In the spring of 2009, Tom formed Mission Guatemala. Mission Guatemala is a United Methodist related ministry that operates a clinic and a preschool feeding program in San Andrés Semetabaj Guatemala. Mission Guatemala is currently trying to discern new projects it can start in the San Andrés area to help improve the quality of life for the indigenous people of Guatemala. Guatemala is one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere ranking fourth in the world for child malnutrition. Tom is a 1982 graduate of the University of Evansville and an ordained United Methodist minister. Prior to being called into ordained ministry, he served as advertising office for a Midwest bank holding company.

Graduates are invited to sit with family and friends during the service.

Everyone is invited to join us for the last worship service of the semester! Donut Bank donut balls and coffee are available at 10:00 a.m.and following the service.
 

 
* UE Musical Theatre Concerts this Friday and Saturday

UE Musical Theatre students will present a concert Friday, Dec 13 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec 14 at 1 p.m. in Wheeler Concert Hall. The Friday concert will feature students of Alanna Keenan, Richard Williams, and Gregory Rike, and Saturday's performers will be students of Elizabeth and Jon Truitt. Take a break from finals and come and hear some great musical theatre classics and songs you may have never heard before, all for free!

 
* Reception following Winter Commencement sponsored by the Alumni Association

All winter graduates and their families are invited to a reception immediately following the winter commencement ceremony next Wednesday, December 18. Please join us in the Class of 1959 Gallery on the second floor of the Ridgway University Center. Faculty and staff are invited as well.

* Distribution Services Holiday Reminders

Since UE campus will be closed from Monday, December 23 through January 1, please note the following adjustments and plan accordingly. Regular Distribution Services’ operations will resume on Thursday, January 2.
Central Receiving

•Central Receiving will be accepting shipments on Friday, December 20 until 3:00 P.M. Packages will not be accepted after 3:00 P.M. Friday, December 20 through Tuesday, January 1.

•Central Receiving will not be making campus deliveries over the Christmas break.

•In-House Supply Orders received by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, will be delivered on the Friday afternoon run. In-House Supply Orders received after 3:00 p.m. on Friday will be delivered on Thursday afternoon run, January
.Mail Services-The daily mail run will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 20 as normally scheduled.

•All outgoing mail must be in Mail Services on Friday, December 20 no later than 2:00 p.m. to be mailed same day.

•The United States Post Office will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 and Wednesday, January Copy Services-Please plan your copy job requirements ahead of time to provide sufficient turn-around time as Copy Services will be closed over the break.

* Angela Williams Book available in UE Bookstore

UE Assistant Director of Alumni Relations Angela Williams' recent publication "Life More Abundantly" is now avaialable in the UE Bookstore. The book of poems sells for $9.00.

 
* Administrative Services' Areas Closed for Lunch

Please note that the Office of Administrative Services including Purchasing, Copy Services, Mail Services, Recycling, Risk Management, and Central Receiving will be closed for a Christmas staff luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19.

* Attention Employees: Payrolls During Holiday Break

The bi-weekly payroll for December 20 will be direct deposited on Friday morning, December 20. The monthly payroll for December 31 will be direct deposited on Tuesday, December 31. As all employees have direct deposit, you will be able to view your online pay advice through WebAdvisor on the morning your pay is direct deposited.

Since the Office of Human Resources will be closed during the holiday break at the time of the monthly payroll on December 31, you will not receive the courtesy email notification that your pay advice is available. However, you may log on to WebAdvisor and view/print your pay advice or contact your bank to confirm the deposit into your bank account.

* Timecard Entry for January 3, 2014 Payroll

As employees will not return from the Christmas holiday break until after the normal time card entry deadline of Saturday, December 28, for the January 3, 2014 biweekly payroll, the Office of Human Resources is asking all staff to enter their time on WebAdvisor for the period December 15 to 28 by Wednesday, December 18. Supervisors are asked to approve timecards by Thursday, December 19.

* UE Try The Y Week at the YMCA

The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana is offering a "Try the Y Week" from December 11 – 18 for University of Evansville employees. During Try the Y week, UE employees will be given unlimited use of both the Downtown & Dunigan Y facilities. Please stop by the membership desk when you come in and let the staff know that you are participating in the Try the Y Program. Congratulations

* Dr. Kathy Liu Publishes Paper

Dr. Kathy Liu, assistant professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science, has had her paper, "Increased Ligament Thickness Exists in Previously Sprained Ankles as Measured by Musculoskeletal Ultrasound" accepted for publication in the Journal of Athletic Training.

 
* Students Participate in 2013 Social Research Symposium

The Department of Law, Politics, and Society hosted the 2013 Social Research Symposium on December 3 and 5 at the University of Evansville. The Symposium featured 21 presentations of independent research papers from senior majors in Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Gerontology, and Sociology. Participants in the Symposium were: Kaitlyn Bond, Camille Burger, Allana Chittick, Chelsea Clifton, Kelsey Costales, Lauren Flinn, Justine Gerling, Max Gross, Kelsea Guy, Gary Hanner, Sarah Malik, Janice Mann, Isaac Martin, Vanessa Parker, Arwen Plunk, Liz Reis, Sarah Spalding, Joshua Strain, Tonya Toby, Stephanie Underhill, and Aimee Wetzel.

 

Athletics

* Men's Basketball Faces Jackson State this Saturday

Your men’s basketball team is in action Saturday afternoon, December 14, for a 2:05 pm tip-off at the Ford Center. The Aces take on the Jackson State Tigers, with the team donning the orange-sleeved jerseys for the second time this season.

For men’s and women’s basketball games, all full-time faculty, staff and administration receive two complimentary tickets to the games. These tickets can be picked up from the Carson Center Ticket Office during normal business hours by showing your UE ID. Students get free admission with their IDs, and can also earn student rewards points for great prizes just for attending Aces home events! The first 100 students to sit in the Student Seating Section will get a voucher for free popcorn and soda at the game.

All kids 12 & under will receive FREE admission to the game, with the first 1,000 kids 12 & under receiving a mini Purple Aces basketball. Purple Santa will also be in attendance at Saturday’s game greeting fans and available to take pictures, along with lots of extra activities on the concourse pregame for all of our fans.

Come out and support the men’s basketball team Saturday afternoon at the Ford Center!
