* Academic Strategy Partners "Open Office" Times

Dr. Robert Dickeson and Julie Naster of Academic Strategy Partners will be on campus Tuesday, October 15, and Wednesday, October 16, to hold a series of meetings relevant to the institutional prioritization process.  During their visit, they have reserved two times for “Open Office” conversations. This is an important opportunity for the UE community—faculty, staff, and administrators - to talk with the consultants about the prioritization process. Open Office times are scheduled as follows:

Wednesday, October 16

* Noon Prayer @ Neu: Meditation with Music, Oct. 17

Noon Prayer @ Neu: Meditation with Music will be held on Thursday, October 17, beginning at 12:10 p.m. in Neu Chapel. The 40-minute service of music, silence, and the spoken word provides a time of contemplation, reflection, and inspiration for University of Evansville students, faculty, staff, and the larger Evansville community.

Thomas Drury, Trinity United Methodist Church director of music/organist, will provide musical portions of the service including his own jazz piano arrangements and organ music by Arvo Pärt, an Estonian composer of classical and sacred music.

Accompanist, jazz pianist and composer, Drury is an instructor of music at the University of Southern Indiana. He holds music degrees from the University of Iowa and the University of Michigan. In addition to his other musical pursuits, Drury is an avid fiddler of traditional Irish music.

Provided by the Neu Chapel Department of Religious Life with support of the Neu Chapel Society, NOON PRAYER will be framed with the ringing of a Peace Bell. Refreshments will be available after the service. All are welcome.
 

 
* Retirement Party for William Brown TODAY

Please join us October 22 from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. in the Melvin Peterson Gallery to celebrate Professor of Art Bill Brown's many dedicated years of service to the Department of Art and the University.

 
* Faculty Scholars Recognized by Libraries

Scholarship recently contributed by UE faculty members is recognized by the Libraries in an exhibit in the entry lobby. Faculty scholars will be honored at a reception on Thursday, October 17, in the Schroeder Boardroom (#203) beginning at 2:00 p.m. and continuing until 3:30 p.m.

 
* MLA Workshop on Thursday, October 17

Need help with MLA citation style? You're invited to the Writing Center on Thursday, October 17, at 5 p.m. where we will present to basics of citation for MLA papers. You will learn how to cite and where to go to find further resources. Refreshments served. See you there!

 
* I-House: Ecuador

All members of the campus and local community are encouraged to attend I-House: Ecuador. I-House features a different international student each week sharing their story of life in their country. This week, Francis Prexl-Orti will discuss what her life is like in Ecuador. Attendees will learn about culture, lifestyle, food, and so much more. Bring your friends to enjoy the presentation this Wednesday at  7pm on the second floor of Ridgway University Center in the Class of 1959 Gallery.

 
* Financial advisor to speak on "Wide World of Investments"

Neil Stowe, a financial advisor, will be speaking to UE students at 4.00 p.m. in Smythe Lecture Hall (Room 170), Schroeder Family School of Business Building on October 21. The title of his presentation will be, “The Wide World of Investments.”  Stowe graciously accepted an invitation to speak to UE students from Professor of Finance Walayet A. Khan. The event is open to public.

Stowe is a financial advisor at Thacker, Charnes, Stowe and Associates, a private wealth advisor practice at Ameriprise Financial. He graduated from UE in 2002 majoring in finance and also has a master’s degree. He is a Certified Financial Planner™ and a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™.

Saturday October 12 - Closed

Monday October 14 - 8:00 am to 7:00 pm
Tuesday October 15 - 8:00 am to 7:00 pm
Wednesday October 16 - regular hours resume
There will be no Fitness Classes October 14- October 18

* Robert Dion Speaks at Latino Summit

Robert Dion, chairperson of the Department of Law, Politics and Society, was a featured speaker at the recent Latino Summit held at the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center. The event was attended by hundreds of business and community leaders from across the Tri-State and beyond. Professor Dion spoke on the challenges and opportunities that come with the expanding political power of the Latino community in the United States. There are about 400,000 people of Hispanic origin living in Indiana currently, and census data show that nearly 82 percent of the growth in Indiana's overall population in the 21st Century can be attributed to Latinos.
