* American flags on Campus at Half Mast - Bells Silenced Today

Today, the American flags on campus are at half mast and the Olmsted bells silenced to mark the 35th anniversary of the University of Evansville men's basketball team plane crash. This is done each year in memorium of the event.

To honor those lives lost, a permanent memorial was constructed on campus known as the "Weeping Basketball." On stone slabs are engraved the names of those who were killed in the plane crash as well as the student-athlete who was not on the plane, but who was killed in a car accident two weeks after the plane crash. Also engraved are the words of then University of Evansville President Wallace Graves: "Out of the agony of this hour we will rise."

The UE community continues to mourn the loss as we remember that tragic day 35 years later.
