Colter to Present Crick Lecture on
Wednesday
Professor of Philosophy Larry Colter will present this
year’s second “Crick Lecture in the Cognitive and Neural
Sciences” on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. in Room 101,
Cognitive science is frequently thought of in two ways
– as an effort to provide a scientific account of human intelligent
behavior, or as an effort to use what we currently know about such intelligent
behavior to build smart self-guided robots to do things that are unsuited for
humans. There is a third way of thinking of it - the building of robots to test
our hypotheses about human intelligence. All are valuable, but the third way is
the most difficult, Colter says.
