Colter to Present Crick Lecture on Wednesday

Professor of Philosophy Larry Colter will present this year’s second “Crick Lecture in the Cognitive and Neural Sciences” on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. in Room 101, Koch Center. The title of his talk will be “Three Views of Cognitive Science.” The lecture is free and open to the public.

Cognitive science is frequently thought of in two ways – as an effort to provide a scientific account of human intelligent behavior, or as an effort to use what we currently know about such intelligent behavior to build smart self-guided robots to do things that are unsuited for humans. There is a third way of thinking of it - the building of robots to test our hypotheses about human intelligence. All are valuable, but the third way is the most difficult, Colter says.
