Students, faculty, administrators, and staff who sport the UE State of Indiana license plate in 2012 (new and renewal plates) will receive a $25 discount off the UE parking permit fee for 2012-13.  The registration process for the plates is now handled through the state.  If you want to purchase or renew a UE plate, visit www.in.gov/bmv/2744.htm.  If you already have your 2012 UE plate, bring your State of Indiana vehicle registration to the Office of Safety and Security when you purchase your parking permit for the new academic year.  If you have not registered your vehicle yet, you will need to pay the full parking permit fee and then bring your registration to the Office of Safety and Security to get a credit for $25.  If you have any questions, contact alumni@evansville.edu.

The 2012-2013 parking permits are available for purchase. They will not be available on Monday, August 6 or Tuesday, August 7 due to Securities In-Service. They will be sold between 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The price is $50 for the academic year, employees will once more be able to use payroll deduction.

2015 Reaccreditation:  Approaches to the Quality Initiative – Brian Ernsting

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is the regional accreditor with responsibility for the accreditation of the university.   Beginning in the 2015-2016 academic year,  the HLC will separate the accreditation process into two components:  the Assurance Review and the Quality Initiative.  While the Assurance Review is similar in many ways to previous accreditation reviews, the Quality Initiative represents a new kind of activity for UE, designed to focus on institutional innovation and improvement.  In the coming weeks and months, we will need to decide on the direction of our Quality Initiative.  This session will introduce the scope of the Quality Initiative and solicit suggestions about how the university community might select  a Quality Initiative that leads to meaningful improvement.

The purpose of the initiative is to immerse students into professional practice one or more times during their pursuit of a UE undergraduate degree. As we begin to collect increasing amounts of evidence and data to support our assessment of student learning outcomes, the management of these materials becomes a significant activity.  The university has adopted the LiveText platform to assist faculty and administrators in gathering, analyzing, and reporting assessment materials.  The LiveText software will be used by first-year students in 2012-2013, with a campus-wide implementation in 2013-2014.  This session will introduce the software, explain the current state of implementation, and outline resources available for the training and support of faculty and students during the implementation period.

In this session, we will explore the basics of how these tools can be harnessed in an educational environment to extend your reach as an educator.         
 

The University of Evansville Fall Conference is set for Tuesday, August 14. To kick off the activities the campus is invited to a dessert reception, which will be held in the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Building Atrium at 12:30 p.m. President Kazee will address the entire campus at 1:30 p.m. at the opening session of the Conference in Shanklin Theatre. Faculty and administrators will attend additional sessions throughout the afternoon and again on Wednesday, August 15. The entire campus is invited to the Family Picnic on Tuesday, August 14 at 4:30 p.m. on the Lawn area between Neu Chapel and Morton Residence Hall.

The University of Evansville Aces Dance Team invites all eligible students to audition for the Dance Team for the 2012-2013 season. Auditions will be held on August 30 from 8 pm to 10 pm and August 31 from 6 pm to 9 pm. The first day of auditions will consist of learning a short, choreographed dance and practicing technique. The second day will consist of showing examples of required technique, preforming the choreographed routine, showcasing 1 minute of original original choreography to music (this should be prepared prior to auditions), and a short interview. Auditions will be held in the Small Gym of the Carson Center.

Information about the 2012-2013 season will be provided at the call out meeting on August 27 from 9 pm to 10 pm in Room 113, Carson Center.

A private or video audition may be arranged if needed and will be allowed at the discretion of the coaching staff.

There is a $20 audition fee. Please refrain from wearing baggy clothing during auditions. Footwear is required.

The Student Fitness Center is looking for 2-3 certified lifeguards for the upcoming year. We have morning, noon, and evening open swim times. The softball team is looking for managers to assist with the 2012-13 season. Those with baseball or softball experience and the flexibility to attend practice are welcome. The team is also in need of film manager capable of handling and using camera equipment, working with computers, and using video editing software. University of Evansville baseball coach Wes Carroll has announced information for the 2012 High School Exposure Camp, which is set to take place on Sunday, September 16.The camp is open to any and all entrants (limited only by number, age, grade level and/or gender) and costs $100.  Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the camp set to start at 10 a.m. at Charles H. Braun Stadium and that National Guard armory on the UE campus.

Campers will go through a warm-up similar to what is used by UE baseball.  That will be followed by controlled scrimmages that will allow participants to be instructed and evaluated by the entire UE baseball staff.

All campers will receive a t-shirt.  Lunch will NOT be provided as campers are encouraged to bring power bars, granola bars and similar snacks.  In the event of inclement weather, the indoor facility located next to the stadium will be utilized.  For those traveling in from out of town, you can find the location by using the street crossing function on a GPS by typing in Walnut Street and Rotherwood Avenue.
