The wellness nurse will be in the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Building lobby on Monday, July 16, from 1 - 3 p.m.

There are many reasons why weight and fitness habits fluctuate including environment, family history, genetics, metabolism and personal habits. While it's impossible to change some of these factors, you can identify and take responsibility for those within your control.

Think about your daily choices and routines. Is there time for more physical activity, a snack you could replace with something healthier, or a way to remove temptation from your environment?  Even simple actions like exchanging French fries for fruit or taking the stairs instead of the elevator add benefit to your health.

 

We are just a few weeks away from welcoming a new class of students to UE. Your help on this day to provide a welcoming environment for our new students is critical. As in years past, we are looking for faculty and staff volunteers to assist with helping as greeters during our move-In process. Our student volunteers who signed up in the spring will help move students into their rooms while faculty and staff volunteers will serve as greeters to students and their families and assist in coordinating and communicating the move-in process. Training will be provided and no previous experience is necessary.

Move-in Day is Saturday, August 18. There are three two-hour shifts to choose from. Please use the link provided to list yourself in a preferred timeslot. The UE Bookstore will conduct a two day summer ending Book Buyback on Thursday, July 19 and Friday, July 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on each day.  Bring in any textbooks you might wish to sell regardless if used on this campus or  purchased elsewhere.  You will get cash on the spot for any books with value.  Also ALL summer UrEntal rental books should be retured to the Bookstore by July 20 if you have not made other arrangements.  Please return your rental books by the deadline to avoid any late charges.  If you have any questions please contact the Bookstore.

UE garden vegetables - mostly tomatoes, squash, and greens - will be available Wednesday, July 18 at noon in Ridgway University Center Lobby.  Please remember that all proceeds will go to Tri-State Food Bank. 

The College of Education would like to invite the campus community to presentations of year-long research projects of four graduating Master of Science in Education students: Lori Hardwick, Nicole Kurzendoerfer, Brooke Lewis, and Jennifer Rupprecht. The presentations will take place this coming Tuesday, July 17, in Eykamp 253 in Ridgway University Center. A continental breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 9 a.m., ending at approximately 12:30 p.m. Topics of presentations include inquiries into early reading development, strategies for differentiating instruction for a diverse class, the effects of school uniforms, and an overview of our recent course on British Education based at Harlaxton College. Condolences to Assistant Vice President to Student Affairs/Director of Residence Life Michael Tessier and his wife Debra and daughter Danielle on the death of his mother Margaret Tessier on July 12, in Alabaster, AL.

Other survivors include son Paul (Patsy) Tessier, daughter, Patricia Gavignet; sister Helen Kennedy; 9 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday, July 15, at Rockco Funeral Home Montevallo. Funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Chuch on Monday, July 16, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Father Dunmyer officiating. Interment will follow at Still Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lakeview Estates for activities or programs.

Dr. Larry Colter, longtime professor of philosophy at the University, died this past Tuesday, July 10 , in Bozeman, Montana where he had been living for the past several months. After a distinguished career at Illinois Wesleyan, where he served in the Department of Philosophy from 1966-1995 and as director of the Division of Humanities, Larry joined the University of Evansville Community as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1995-2001. He later returned to his first love, teaching philosophy, and served as Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion from 2001-2007 and as professor of philosophy from 2001 to his retirement this past year. Larry was widely published in ethics, the philosophy of language and especially philosophy of mind. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends make a contribution to the scholarship fund set up at The University of Evansville in his and his wife Pat’s name. Pat, also a longtime member of the University and Evansville communities, died two years ago. They will both be sorely missed.
