* Fall Conference 2016 today

The University of Evansville Fall Conference is today, Tuesday, August 16. A dessert reception will welcome everyone back to campus in the Matt Williams Lobby of Hyde Hall at 12:30 p.m. The Fall Conference begins at 1:30 p.m. in Shanklin Theatre. The Family Picnic completes the day starting at 4:30 p.m.

 
* Fall Conference concurrent sessions

Fall Conference concurrent sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, August 17. All UE employees are encouraged to attend the session “Run, Hide, Fight – Preparing for an Active Shooter scenario” in Shanklin Theatre at 8:00 a.m. Sessions continue in the Schroeder School of Business Building at 10:00 a.m. A complete list of sessions can be found here.

 
* Re-investment and Innovation Fund proposal date approaching

The fourth and final round of proposals for funding from the Re-investment and Innovation Fund are due September 1. Please go here for submission forms and details.

* United Way Day of Caring - September 9

Register today to volunteer with UE during United Way Day of Caring on September 9! The deadline to sign up is Friday, August 26.

Register online here.

When you register, be sure to put University of Evansville in the company line and select either Salvation Army or Seton Harvest in the Special Skills section.

We have space for about 35 volunteers between the two locations.

The Salvation Army address is 1040 N. Fulton Ave., Evansville, 47710. At this location, the volunteers will scrub and paint soup kitchen hallway, scrub down soup kitchen (cooking area) and equipment, clean walk-in refrigerator/freezer (walls, racks, and floor), and organize the garage.

The Seton Harvest address is 9400 New Harmony Road, Evansville, 47720. At this location, volunteers will harvest, weed, and plant.

The Day of Caring will begin with a kick-off breakfast at 7:00 a.m. followed by an inspirational program to engage volunteers. You don’t want to miss out on this great day in the community!

You do not need to use vacation time to participate, but you will need to get permission from your supervisor before you register.

Info You Should Know

* President's Club car parking decals

The President’s Club car parking decals for 2016-17 are in! The Office of Development will be hand-delivering decals to those who qualify at the President’s Club level on campus this week. Thank you for your continued support of our University. If you are interested in joining the President’s Club, please contact Jennifer Jacobs at jj130@evansville.edu or ext. 2021.

 
* Delay in parking permits sales

Parking permits will be delayed due to production problems. We are working with the vendor to expedite the process to shorten the delay. We will notify everyone when the permits are available for sale.

 
* Director of accreditation and assessment appointed

Mark Valenzuela, associate professor of engineering, has been appointed the director of accreditation and assessment of the University of Evansville. Valenzuela will oversee the University’s assessment initiatives, including the assessment of general education, and will serve as the liaison to the Higher Learning Commission.

 
* CAE director appointed

Lindsay Roberts has been appointed the director of the Center for Adult Education. She replaces Kristie Byrns, who resigned as the center director in July.

 
* All UE employees invited to important Fall Conference concurrent session

All UE employees are invited to attend  “Run, Hide, Fight - preparing for an Active Shooter scenario” on Wednesday, August 17, 8:00-9:50 a.m. in Shanklin Theatre. This information session will be presented by Evansville Police Department officers Kevin Corbin and Nick Sandullo.

Being prepared mentally can literally be the difference between life and death. Members of the Evansville Police Department Crime Prevention Unit will provide important information on how individuals should respond during the unfortunate event of an active shooter on campus.

All University empoyees are strongly encouraged to attend this session of the Fall Conference.

* UE professor publishes poems

Paul Bone, associate professor of creative writing, recently published three poems in the online newspaper The San Diego Reader. His poems - APGAR, Daughter, and Present Infinitive - can be found here

 
* Anne Hastings Fiedler and Eykamp String Quartet to be honored at 2016 Mayor's Arts Awards

Anne Hastings Fiedler, professor of music, and the Eykamp String Quartet, resident artists of the University of Evansville and the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, will be honored at the 2016 Mayor's Arts Awards Ceremony on Thursday, August 18, at the Victory Theatre. The Arts Council of Southwest Indiana's annual Arts Awards honor individuals, groups, and institutions that have made significant contributions to the advancement of the arts in Evansville and the surrounding counties. Fiedler will receive the Artist Award, and the Eykamp String Quartet will be recognized with the Ensemble Award.

 
* Atefeh Yazdanparast has paper accepted at the American Marketing Association

Atefeh Yazdanparast, assistant professor of marketing, has had a paper accepted for presentation and publication in the proceedings of the 2016 American Marketing Association conference. The research focuses on the role of providing congruent/in-congruent haptic referencing on increased processing ease while making online purchase decisions of products with salient material properties.
