Earlier this afternoon a student was approached by a man while sitting in her car in the Family Dollar parking lot at a local shopping mall. The subject told her his car was broken down and that his kids were getting out of school. He then got into the passenger side of her vehicle and asked her to give him a ride. The student agreed but the man then asked for money ($15 dollars “in the spirit of Christmas”). The student gave him the money and they drove to a location near highway 41 and he exited the vehicle.

This is an example of someone who might be taking advantage of the good nature of members of the UE community. While no one was harmed in this incident, it is a good idea to always have doors locked while in an automobile. If someone enters your vehicle, it is best to get away from the situation as quickly as possible and call 911.
