* UE Men's Soccer Cruises Past Prairie Stars

In the University of Evansville men’s soccer team’s first exhibition match of the 2011 season, the Purple Aces got the offense flowing, as UE topped the visiting University of Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars, 4-0, Friday night at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
Freshmen Ryan Stallings and Jesse Sharp led the attack with two goals apiece in their debut donning the purple and white, while senior Tad Kreamalmeyer (two) and freshman Drew Schall (one) registered the assists.

The 11 starting freshman proved themselves in the opening half, as the Aces broke onto the scoreboard at the 25:17 mark on Stallings’ first goal. Schall crossed the ball to Stallings on the right side of the goal, who then knocked it past diving goalkeeper Jack Turanchick into the back left corner of the net.

That is where the score stood until the 61st minute when Sharp blasted a successful shot from the left side of the box that give UE a 2-0 advantage.

Just under nine minutes later (70:28), Stallings recorded his second goal of the evening after Kremalmeyer charged down the left side of the field and crossed it to Stallings who knocked it to the far corner of the net past Turanchick.

The attack continued for Evansville in the 78th minute when veteran Kreamalmeyer piloted the offense again with a strong shot that ricocheted off the post and landed right in the middle of the box in front of a charging Sharp who knocked it in for the final score of the contest.

The Aces outshot the Prairie Stars, 19-7 with a 10-2 shot on goal advantage. In the net, freshman Eric Teppen recorded 2 saves in 61:23 minutes of play, while junior Robert Randant played the final 28:37 minutes. Turanchik finished with six saves for Illinois Springfield.

Evansville continues exhibition play Monday when the Aces host Saint Louis University. The friendly is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Arad McCutchan Stadium. Fans unable to make it to the field can listen to a live broadcast of the match on WUEV 91.5FM.

* UE Women's Soccer Falls To Billikens

Saint Louis used an 11-1 shot advantage Sunday afternoon to top the University of Evansville women’s soccer team, 4-0, at Hermann Stadium. With the loss, the Purple Aces fall to 0-1-1 on the season.

Within the first five minutes of play, the Billikens tallied two quick scores, starting with Jasmina Suljic’s  goal with help from Alli Reimer at the 1:16 mark. Just over three minutes later (4:25), Abbey Stock netted SLU’s second goal off a rebound on a save by goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison.

The Billikens made the score 3-0 before the end of the half when Jenny Hummert found the lower right side of the goal on a pass from Mallorie Owens 24:40 minutes into the game.

Hummert capped the match with another goal at the 82:45 mark on a chip shot over Harrison from about 16 yards out.
Harrison finished with three saves on the day, as the Billikens tallied seven shots on goal. Goalie Katie Walsh recorded the shutout for SLU without recording a save.

Sophomore Stephanie Thompson had UE’s lone shot of the afternoon.

Evansville is back in action Friday when the Aces host Central Michigan at 7 p.m. at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
