* UE Goalkeeper Simone Busby Selected for Guyana CONCACAF Qualifying

One of the top goalkeepers in Evansville women’s soccer history has earned a one-of-a-kind opportunity. Senior Simone Busby will play for the Guyana women’s national team in CONCACAF qualifying later this month in hopes of playing in the Olympics in 2016.

This selection occurred after Busby’s strong performance at a training camp in Guyana in July.

“It is an honor for me to represent such a great country,” said Busby. “As a team, we are trying to bring recognition to Guyana and women’s soccer because it is not very established yet…It is exciting for me to be able to compete at a women’s national level.”

Busby, a three year starter for the Purple Aces holds the lowest goals against average (0.71) and the most shutouts (20) in program history. Just last season, she guided UE to a program record 631:57 stretch without allowing a goal.

“Simone has a fantastic opportunity that most players could only dream about,” said Evansville head women’s soccer coach Krista McKendree. “The chance to play for a national team is something she will cherish forever. It is such an unbelievable honor and recognition of her abilities. “

Guyana will compete in Group Two of the CONCACAF qualifier in the Caribbean zone (August 21 – 25). Other teams in group two include host country St. Kitts & Nevis and Haiti. The winner of the group will advance to the CONCACAF women’s championship in the United States (January 21-31).

The Aces are back in action on Saturday, August 15 with a road exhibition match at Austin Peay. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. CDT in Clarksville, Tenn.

Evansville is back at home on Friday, August 21 for the regular season home opener against Xavier. The match at Arad McCutchan Stadium will start at 7:00 p.m. CDT.
