* Aces Men's Golf in top three at MVC Championship

A great start to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship has the University of Evansville men’s golf team in third place with one round of play left at The Club of Porto Cima. Through two rounds, the Purple Aces are just three strokes out of second place.

Wil Pahud ranks in a tie for fifth place and had the top round of the day for the Aces. Pahud opened the day with a 2-under 70 before posting a 77 to rank in the top five with a 147. With 18 more holes remaining, he is six strokes out of second place and 11 off the lead.

Sitting in a tie for 10th place are Tyler Gray and Rick Voyvodic. The duo mirrored each other all day with both carding a 73 in the first round before finishing round two with a 76. They are two shots behind Pahud with scores of 149.

Three behind that group is Will Knights. Having his best year with the team, Knights continued that on Monday, recording scores of 79 and 73 to stand tied for 19th with a 152. His 73 in the second round was the lowest for the Aces in the second trip around the course.

Alex Turner also showed improvement as the day went on. After firing an 83 to begin the day, Turner dropped his score by five strokes to notch a 78 in the second round to stand in 37th place with a 161.

Wichita State had a dominant day and are in control going into Tuesday’s final round. The Shockers had rounds of 287 and 286 to finish with a 573. They are 21 strokes ahead of UNI, who is in second. Three WSU players are in the top seven, led by Louis Cohen Boyer. His 2-round total of 136 is five ahead of teammate Conrad Walcher’s 141. The pair is 1-2 on the individual leaderboard.

UNI holds the second spot on the team side with a 594 while Evansville is right in the mix with a 597. Bradley stands in fourth place with a 602 while Southern Illinois rounds out the top five with a 604.
