Info You Should Know

* Alert Staff Help Lead to Arrest

On May 13, , the Office of Safety and Security alerted the campus about an individual who had exposed himself to two of our students while he was parked on Rotherwood Avenue. A description of the suspect, his vehicle and license plate number were also provided in the alert.  Yesterday afternoon, the Security Office was notified by two physical plant employees that the suspect was seen entering Hyde Hall and his vehicle was parked in Lot A by the Health and Wellness Center.  The Evansville Police Department was notified and security personnel immediately responded to the call.

When Sgt. Cook arrived at Hyde Hall he talked with the physical plant employees and advised he was somewhere in the building.  Sgt. Cook entered the building to search for the suspect and the physical plant employees moved their vehicle in a position to block the suspect’s vehicle in it’s parking space.  While Sgt. Cook was searching for the building, the suspect exited the building and went to his vehicle in an effort to leave.  In order to leave the space, the suspect  pulled up on the curve and then backed out of the space striking the vehicle blocking him and almost hitting the employees.  The suspect was arrested by responding EPD officers a short time later at his home.

The willingness of the physical plant employees to become involved and respond is the perfect example of how important it is for all members of the campus community to be alert about what is going on around them and to be a part of the “Security Team” at our institution.
