* Beckman Named Interim Dean

President Tom Kazee and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs John Mosbo are pleased to let the UE family know that Professor Jean Beckman of the Department of Chemistry has accepted their invitation to serve as Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “We're thrilled to have someone of Professor Beckman's skill, experience, and judgment as Interim Dean,” said President Kazee.  “Please join us in expressing appreciation and support to her as she takes on this important University leadership position.”

Professor Beckman will begin her service this summer and will continue until the search is completed for our next Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.   Dr. Mosbo will begin that search immediately.  Prof. Beckman will replace Susan Calovini, who recently became VP of Academic & Student Affairs and Dean of College at Salem College in North Carolina.

Upcoming Events

* UE to Hold Rape Aggression Defense Course

The Student Fitness Center will offer a Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) course from 5-7 p.m. on July 25-29. Cost is $60, and the course is open to the public. Jeff Chestnut, director of UE’s Student Fitness Center and a certified R.A.D. instructor, will lead the course.

“While no one likes to imagine being a victim of a violent crime, the recent disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer has reminded us that worst-case scenarios can and do occur,” Chestnut said. “This course will begin by teaching awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance. When women finish the course, they’ll know how to confidently defend themselves in case of an attack.”
