* Paper by Alhenawi and Yazdanparast accepted for presentation at Academy of Financial Services Meeting

Yasser Alhenawi, assistant professor of finance, and Atefeh Yazdanparast, assistant professor of marketing, have had their paper titled “Personality Traits and Financial Decision Making” accepted for presentation at the Academy of Financial Services 28th Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee in October . This paper is an interdisciplinary approach to analyze financial decision-making at the household level by focusing on the relationship between personality traits and individuals’ financial decision-making process. Specifically, the research examines how personality traits affect certain financial decisions including demand for financial services and household financial planning. The inquiry has significant implications for the financial service sector such as effective marketing of financial services, and will be used to formulate a strategy to promote financial literacy.

* Parkison publishes in "Scholar-Practitioner Quarterly"

Paul Parkison, Chair in the School of Education, has had an article published in Scholar-Practitioner Quarterly. In a theoretical argument about preparation of future teachers, Parkison presents an argument for framing teacher preparation within the question: "How should we prepare future teachers?" The theoretical argument presented utilizes an analysis of the U.S. Department of Education's policy brief "Our Future, Our Teachers: The Obama Administration's Plan for Teacher Education Reform and Improvement" released in September 2011 to illustrate the threat of the impoverished law of the market model and the necessity of pursuing a different -- a dissident -- course.

* Promotions in Office of Safety and Security

The Office of Safety and Security is pleased to announce the promotion of Heroshi Milan to Night Sergeant and Brittney Robertson to Corporal, effective July 2. Congratulations to both of them!

Athletics

* Troy Taylor Signs with London Lightning of NBL

Former University of Evansville men’s basketball player Troy Taylor has inked his first professional deal as the point guard signed a deal to play for the London Lightning of the National Basketball League (NBL) of Canada.

“I am so excited to get this opportunity, I have been working very hard for this and it means a lot to see the work pay off,” Taylor said.

One of the most energetic players in recent memory, Taylor has shown that same energy since his graduation. It was his persistence that got him the opportunity, which has been in the works for a few weeks.

“I contacted the general manager on my own and threw all kinds of stats at him from my time at UE,” Taylor added. “I hoped he would get back with me and he did just that, I am very thankful.”

Purple Aces head coach Marty Simmons is proud of the chance that Taylor will have in playing for one of the top teams in the NBL.
