* Today is Impact Visit Day!

The Office of Admission is hosting an IMPACT Visit Day today. There are around 100 families on campus for this event. The front oval will be closed for the IMPACT Day visitors until 9:00 a.m. After 9:00 a.m., the oval will open for general parking. The visitors will join the UE community for lunch in Café Court between 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Please give our visitors a warm welcome.

 

Upcoming Events

* This Week in Music: Harlaxton Wind Quintet Performs

The Harlaxton Woodwind Quintet will present this week’s Faculty Recital in Wheeler Concert Hall on Tuesday evening, January 21, at 7:30. This Department of Music faculty ensemble includes Consortium Instructor Cara Dailey (flute), Consortium Instructor Elizabeth Robertson (oboe), Department of Music Chair and Associate Professor Thomas Josenhans (clarinet), Professor Emeritus Edwin Lacy (bassoon), and Consortium Instructor Marc Zyla (French horn). The performance will feature music from the Modern Era, including works by Carl Nielsen, Radamés Gnattali, Darius Milhaud, and György Ligeti. The concert is free and open to the public.

 
* The Nerd Wars Have Begun!

Join in for the Honors Program Nerd Wars, a fun night of competition between teams comprised of students, faculty, administrators, and staff to answer the most trivia questions. The big battle will be on Tuesday, February 18 in Eykamp 251 in Ridgway University Center at 7:00 p.m. To enlist your team, contact Jayme Williams at jw504 (or at her office, KC 238) with your team name, names of your 5 teammates, and $5.00 per person registration fee. There will be prizes for the winning team plus giveaways and refreshments for everyone! Look for our flyers out and about soon. Registration is due February 1. Contact Paige at ps103 if you have questions.

 

Info You Should Know

* Story-tellers in Spanish

Would you like to be a story-teller in Spanish? Work on your Spanish pronunciation by reading traditional children stories! We will practice pronunciation and intonation until they are perfect (or almost!) and then we'll go to act out the stories for Hispano children at the Nativity church here in Evansville. If you are interested please contact Dr. Lorena Andueza (pa55@evansville.edu).

 
* IMPACT Employee of the Month Nominations

The University of Evansville, in pursuit of excellence in service, wishes to recognize a non-faculty employee displaying records of achievement as a leader. Leadership may be demonstrated in any of the following categories: Service to the University, Service to students; Job performance and attitude towards fellow employees.

* Writing Center Opens Wednesday, January 22

* USPS Closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

This is a reminder that the United States Postal Service (U.S.P.S.) is closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 20. Please note UE will not be able to pick up mail from U.S.P.S. on Monday, since the Post Office will be completely closed. Any mail picked up from UE areas by Mail Services on Monday, January 20 will be metered and mailed on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 21. Please plan accordingly. For mailing questions, contact Mail Services at extension 2197.

 
* Now Hiring Resident Assistants for 2014-2015

The Residence Life program is seeking students for Resident Assistant positions for the 2014-2015 school year! The Resident Assistant position offers excellent opportunities to gain work experience and transferable skills, get involved in the UE community, and make a difference on campus. It's an immersive leadership experience that can change your life! There are approximately 15 positions opening for next school year.

Applications are available in the Office of Residence Life and through any current staff member. Applications and recommendation forms are due to the Office of Residence Life by 5 pm on January 24.

An optional information session will be held January 21 at 9 pm in Room 71 in Schroeder Family School of Business Building for those with questions.

Faculty and staff, if you know any students who would be outstanding Resident Assistant candidates, please encourage them to apply!

UE Libraries offers a quiet zone on its third floor as well as many important research services dedicated to your success as a student scholar at UE. Nominations for the 2014 Outstanding Teacher Award are being accepted NOW!

Take a couple of minutes to honor a colleague who you feel exemplifies teaching excellence with a nomination. Eligible Professors

* Senior History Student Publishes Article

Senior history major Brianna McLaughlin published an article in the September 2013 edition of The Tri-State Packet of the Tri-State Genealogical Society. The article, "Early Records from the Vanderburgh Christian Home," contains detailed descriptions of some of the records currently housed at Willard Library.
