* Commencement Location Change!

Wednesday’s Winter Commencement will be moved to the Meeks Family Court of the Carson Center (known to many as the Large Gym). The move is necessary due to a weather-related problem with the roof of the Student Fitness Center Gym.

The students will robe in the Maikranz Family Small Gym  of Carson Center. The faculty, administrators, and alumni guests will robe in the Aerobics Room as scheduled.
 

 
* New mobile-friendly version of the UE website!

The office of digital media has created a new mobile-friendly version of the UE website. It will provide easier access on iOS and Android-based devices. You are also able to add a shortcut to the home screen of your phone to make it quicker as well.

For iOS devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, etc.)
1) Go to the UE website, www.evansville.edu, in the Safari browser
2) Click on the icon in the bottom center of the screen that has an up arrow on it
3) Click on “add to the home screen”

For Android-based devices
1) Go to the UE website, www.evansville.edu, in the Internet browser
2) Click on the menu icon (it looks like the symbol for a list)
3) Click on “add shortcut to home screen”

You can still access the search function and the full site navigation, by clicking on the words “University of Evansville” at the top of the screen.

 

What's Happening Today

* Reception following Winter Commencement sponsored by the Alumni Association

All winter graduates and their families are invited to a reception immediately following the winter commencement ceremony next Wednesday, December 18. Please join us in the Class of 1959 Gallery on the second floor of the Ridgway University Center. Faculty and staff are invited as well.

 
* Bookstore Buyback/Christmas Sale

The UE Bookstore is having a SALE! During buyback December 12-18 you'll get 20% OFF the original price of all UE clothing and gift items. Clearance items are exempt from additional discount as well as items on the 12 Days of Christmas sale list. Sell any books you might not want anymore and save some money on holiday gifts!

 

Upcoming Events

* TIAA-CREF Counseling Appointments

The TIAA-CREF representative will be on the UE campus on Tuesday, January 21 and Thursday, January 23 for individual counseling sessions. To schedule an appointment, call TIAA-CREF at 1-800-732-8353 or 317-706-6200. The sessions are held in the Clifford Rare Books Room of the University Libraries (room 158). * Acettes Holiday Dance Clinic

The Acettes Holiday Dance Clinic  is set for Friday, December 20 in the Small Gym in Carson Center. Registration will be from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. and the clinic from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday, December 21. the Acettes will perform at halftime of the men’s basketball game (University of Evansville Purple Aces vs. Butler Bulldogs) Game time is 2:05 pm at the Ford Center

Please RSVP to Coach Arata by December 16 as space is limited!

Registration fee of $30 includes dance clinic fee, child's ticket to men's Aces basketball game on December 21 vs. Butler, pizza party, and t-shirt. Kids of all ages welcome!

Info You Should Know

* ACE Catalog Software Upgrade on Thursday, December 19

Libraries' ACE online catalog of resources will undergo a software upgrade on Thursday, December 19. As a result, access to ACE catalog will be intermittent throughout the day. Contact William Louden, University Librarian, with questions at 812.488.2376 or wflouden@evansville.edu.

 
* Buyback Ends / Rentals Due TODAY Before 4:30 PM

Last chance! Buyback at the Bookstore ends promptly TODAY - Wednesday, December 18 - at 4:30 p.m. If you want to sell your books get them in by that time. Also any RENTAL books are due back at the same time and date. Rentals returned after December 18 are subject to late fees and/or replacement fees. If you have questions contact the Bookstore.

 
* Distribution Services Holiday Reminders

Since UE campus will be closed from Monday, December 23 through January 1, please note the following adjustments and plan accordingly. Regular Distribution Services’ operations will resume on Thursday, January 2.
Central Receiving

•Central Receiving will be accepting shipments on Friday, December 20 until 3:00 P.M. Packages will not be accepted after 3:00 P.M. Friday, December 20 through Tuesday, January 1.

•Central Receiving will not be making campus deliveries over the Christmas break.

•In-House Supply Orders received by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, will be delivered on the Friday afternoon run. In-House Supply Orders received after 3:00 p.m. on Friday will be delivered on Thursday afternoon run, January
.Mail Services-The daily mail run will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 20 as normally scheduled.

•All outgoing mail must be in Mail Services on Friday, December 20 no later than 2:00 p.m. to be mailed same day.

•The United States Post Office will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 and Wednesday, January Copy Services-Please plan your copy job requirements ahead of time to provide sufficient turn-around time as Copy Services will be closed over the break.

* Rania Mousa Has Paper Accepted for Presentation

Assistant Professor of Accounting Rania Mousa had her paper titled “A Case Study on XBRL Implementation and Development at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)” accepted for presentation at the American Accounting Association's Accounting Information Systems Section Midyear Meeting held next January in Raleigh, North Carolina. The paper discusses the largest implementation project of XBRL worldwide by a government/regulatory agency, and the first in capturing the functionalities of the much advanced Inline XBRL. In the U.S., 7100 banks file their quarterly Call Reports and Uniform Bank Performance Reports in XBRL format with the FDIC, as mandated the law. XBRL implementation was part of the federal government's Central Data Repository Modernization Project.

* Keith Gehlhausen and Family

Condolences to Director of Human Resources Keith Gehlhausen on the death of his father, Richard “Dick” A. Gehlhausen of Dale, Indiana, He passed away Sunday, December 15, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. He was 68.

He was born July 31, 1945 in Evansville to Roy and Dorothy (Winiger) Gehlhausen. Richard married Joyce Dewig on June 15, 1968 in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt.

Richard is survived by his wife, Joyce; 2 sons, Keith Gehlhausen and wife Dorothy of Evansville and Jeffrey Gehlhausen of Montrose, CO; one brother Donald Gehlhausen; 3 grandchildren, Suzanne, Meg and Jon Gehlhausen. Richard was preceded in death by both parents.

Richard was retired from Leed Selling Tools Corp. He was a former member of the Army Reserves and Nativity Church Mens Club. He was an active Assistant Scout Master with Troop 312 in Evansville. Richard enjoyed fishing and camping.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8:00 p.m. EST and Friday from 8-9:30 a.m. EST at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. EST in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. Memorial contributions can be made to Sisters of St. Benedict of a favorite charity. Condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com.

 

 

Athletics

* Aces Announce Holiday Ticket Packages And Hours

A special holiday ticket deal is available through the Purple Aces ticket office as the schedule turns to Missouri Valley Conference play in just two weeks.

For just $36, fans will receive tickets to three of the best games that remain on the Aces men’s basketball schedule: Indiana State, Loyola and Wichita State. As a bonus, all ticket packages feature a free voucher to any women’s basketball game. Two of the games feature free t-shirt promotions, adding even more value to the package.

The first game of the package will feature a doubleheader on Saturday, January 4th as the men take on rival Indiana State. You will also receive free admission to the women’s game as they take on Bradley at 3:30 p.m. with the men set to tip at 7 p.m. As part of a Pack the Ford Center Purple promotion, the first 1,000 fans receive a free purple t-shirt.

Next up will be the Saturday, January 18th game versus Loyola as the Ramblers make their first visit to the Ford Center as members of the Missouri Valley Conference. In an Orange Out promotion, the first 1,000 attendees will receive an orange t-shirt.

Finally, on Sunday, February 16th, you receive a ticket to the 4 p.m. game against defending Final Four participant Wichita State. The Shockers are currently ranked in the top ten in the nation, but Evansville had the upper hand last season against the Shockers, taking both games during the season.

GAME DAY: Thursday, January 2nd at 7:00 PM Women’s Basketball vs. Loyola—Tickets can be purchased at UE Ticket Office or Ford Center
