* Parking Permits Now Available!

The 2013-2014 parking permits are now available for purchase in the Office of Safety and Security. They will be sold between 8 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The price is $50 for the academic year. Employees will once more be able to use payroll deduction to pay for their permits.

 
* Save 10% on New Nametags

The UE nametags have been redesigned with the IMPACT messaging on them.

In an effort to encourage as many people as possible to use the new design, we have arranged with our vendor, Ameristamp, to offer a 10% price reduction on all nametags ordered by Friday, September 13.

The discount includes the stipulation that the nametags must be paid by p-card at the time you place the order, so have your card handy.

Dave Goldman, the University's customer service representative for Meritain Health, will join the wellness nurse TODAY - Monday, Aug. 26 - from 1-3 p.m., in Koch Center North lobby. If you have questions about your health insurance, this is an opportunity to get answers face-to-face.

 
* University Choir Auditions this Week!

* Direct Loan Entrance Counseling Sessions

First-time borrowers of a Federal Direct Loan at the University of Evansville for the 2013-2014 academic year who have not already attended an Entrance Counseling Session are required to attend one of the following sessions:

August 26  (Monday)   Hyde Hall 126    4:30 pm 

August 28  (Wednesday)  Hyde Hall 126    4:00 pm

Entrance Counseling is a federal requirement which needs to be completed before your Federal Direct loan funds can be applied to your student account. Please arrive early; no one will be admitted after the session has started.

Upcoming Events

* Women's Equality Day Presentation

Dr. Julianne Malveaux will make a presentation at UE at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28 in Eykamp Hall 251 following her lunchtime keynote address as part of Evansville’s Women’s Equality Day Celebration.

Dr. Malveaux was the 15th President of Bennett College for Women. She is an economist, author, and commentator whose popular writings have appeared in USA Today, Black Issues in Higher Education, Ms. Magazine, Essence Magazine, the Progressive and many more.

She is well-known for appearances on national network programs including CNN, BET, PBS, NBC, ABC, Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, C-SPAN, and others.

A committed activist and civic leader, Dr. Malveaux has held positions in women’s, civil rights, and policy organizations.

The presentation is part of the Patricia H. Snyder Concert and Lecture Series.

Women’s Equality Day commemorates the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. Every year, events are held nationwide.
 

 
* UE Theatre Holding Fall Semester Auditions

UE Theatre will hold General Auditions, Wednesday, August 28, 6 pm in Shanklin Theatre. Callbacks will take place on Thursday, August 29, and Friday, August 30.

To be considered for a role, all non-majors should prepare to present one contemporary monologue (serious or comedic) AND a song from a Broadway musical, with a COMBINED time not exceeding two minutes. Time begins with the first word of your monologue or song. An accompanist will be provided and must be used.

All non-majors must pre-register by noon on Wednesday, August 28, by completing an audition request form in HH 106.

Productions slated for this semester include: CLYBOURNE PARK, by Bruce Norris; SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler; and ANATOMY OF GRAY, by Jim Leonard.

* Academic Convocation is Tomorrow

Academic Convocation, the first official UE ritual for incoming students, will take place at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, August 27 in the Student Fitness Center. 

Families and friends of those participating in the ceremony may watch a live video stream on the University of Evansville's website, www.evansville.edu/live. The stream will begin at 8:50 a.m. local time.

 
* UE Acettes Auditions

The UE Acettes will hold auditions for the 2013-2014 school year on September 1. All eligible students are welcomed to audition. * Welcome Scott Henne, Dean of Admission, to Campus Today!

A welcome reception will be held today for Scott Henne, Dean of Admission, from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the lobby of Olmsted Administration Hall. Scott previously served as director of freshman recruitment at Valparaiso University in northwestern Indiana. Under his leadership, Valparaiso experienced record freshman classes over the past three years in number, academics, and diversity. Please join the campus community in welcoming Scott as part of the UE team!

* Jill Griffin Joins Institute for Global Enterprise

Dr. Jill Griffin has been hired as GAP director in the University's Institute for Global Enterprise. She previously taught marketing at the University of Konstanz in Germany, and she holds a PhD in marketing from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Griffin began her new role at UE on Monday, August 19.

* Join the Admission Student Calling Team

The Office of Admission is looking for enthusiastic students (sophomores-seniors) to help make phone calls to prospective students. You will be required to work 6-8 hours per week, with this being a paid position. * LaNeeca Williams Named Diversity and Equity Officer

LaNeeca Williams has been hired as diversity and equity officer at the University of Evansville. She comes to UE from Colorado State University-Pueblo, where she spent five-and-a-half years as director of affirmative action, equal employment opportunity, and campus diversity.

Williams, an Evansville native, begins her new role Monday, August 26. A welcome reception, open to the entire campus community, will be held from 3-4 p.m. Tuesday, August 27 on the second floor of Olmsted Hall.

As UE’s diversity and equity officer, Williams will serve as a member of the Office of the President, leading and coordinating efforts in all aspects of diversity, inclusion, educational and employment equity, affirmative action, cultural understanding and competency, and civil and human rights. She will work with internal and external constituents to advance diversity and equity as core values essential to the University's educational mission.

“I am excited about the opportunity to return to Evansville and work at such a wonderful university,” Williams said. “I loved the family-like atmosphere when I visited, and I look forward to working on important diversity initiatives at UE.”

Prior to her position at CSU-Pueblo, Williams served as director of diversity and affirmative action at Indiana State University from 2004-2008.

Williams holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Indiana State University in family and consumer science education.

 
* Display Cases for YOU @ UE Libraries

UE Libraries looks forward to honoring academic progress—such as Dr. Kaiser's ARCH 340: Tin City display in September—as well as hosting publicity for campus activities & events—such as the UE Vets in November—via display cases located in the libraries’ front entryway. All student organizations and campus departments are welcome to reserve a display case by contacting Laura Summers at ls120@evansville.edu.

Currently on display at UE Libraries are tips on “How to Survive UE,” such as where to study, what to do if you lose your flash drive, and how to leave time for fun. If you haven’t yet heard about the Summer Book 2013, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, come be inspired by this story through a multimedia display. Both exhibits will run through September 2.

* Payal Patel-Dovlatabadi Has Article Published

Payal Patel-Dovlatabadi, assistant professor and director of public health, had an article titled "Factors Associated with Physicians' Prescribing Behavior for Treatment of Influenza in the U.S." accepted in the International Journal of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Marketing.

 
* Robert Catena Has Article Published

Robert Catena, assistant professor in physical therapy and director of the Dunigan Movement Analysis Lab, had an article titled "Effect of aging on inter-joint synergies during machine-paced assembly tasks" accepted in the journal Experimental Brain Research. This was done in collaboration with researchers at Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety, University of Massachusetts Lowell, and Vrije Universiteit in The Netherlands.

 
* Senior Sport Management Student Bryce Weiler Appearing on 14 WFIE's Midday with Mike

Senior sport management student Bryce Weiler is going to be a featured guest on Midday with Mike hosted by Mike Blake on Channel 14 WFIE. The show airs on Monday, August 26 from 11:00-11:30 a.m.

 
* Biology Professor Participates in Book Donation Ceremony

Dale Edwards, UE biology professor and president of the Indiana Academy of Science, spoke at a recent Subaru of America book donation ceremony held Friday, August 16th at Washington Irving School in Indianapolis. The science book donation was realized through signature collection at the Annual Indiana Academy of Science Meeting, held this past March at the JW Marriott Hotel in Indianapolis, where nearly 400 Indiana scientists, science educators and young emerging scientists were in attendance.

“The Indiana Academy of Science is a proud supporter of the Subaru Loves Science program, and is very happy to have helped to make today's science book donation possible for students from Washington Irving School,” said Edwards.

The Indiana Academy of Science is a professional membership organization of Indiana scientists, science educators and graduate and undergraduate science students; dedicated to improving education in the sciences and diffusing scientific information, promoting scientific research, and encouraging communication and cooperation among scientists. It has been an important voice of Indiana science since its inception in 1885.
