Delta Sigma Pi Recruitment Event

Attention business majors! Delta Sigma Pi's last recruitment event, for people who are interested in joining the professional fraternity, is tonight in Room 172 in the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Building from 6:30-8:30 PM. Andiron Lecture

The guest speaker for the February Andiron Lecture is UE Assistant Professor of English Mark Cirino. The lecture begins at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, in Eykamp 254, in the Ridgway University Center. A social gathering with beverages begins at 3:45 p.m.

His topic will be "Ernest Hemingway and the Art of the Sentence."

Cirino earned his PhD at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. The author of two novels, he has also had articles and reviews published in the Hemingway Review and Voices in Italian Americana. He is the co-editor of Ernest Hemingway and the Geography of Memory, to be published by Kent State University Press in May. At UE, he teaches American literature, creative writing, and world cultures.

File the 2010-11 FAFSA by March 10 - www.fafsa.gov

Be sure to file the 2010-11 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov to be considered for federal, state and University financial aid, including federal student loans. The 2010-11 FAFSA establishes aid eligibility for fall 2010 through summer 2011.

Students from Indiana must ensure that their 2010-11 FAFSA is received by the federal processor no later than March 10, 2010; however, filing by March 10 is beneficial for all students. English Coffee Hour

Kelly Moffett will be the guest speaker for the English Coffee Hour on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. in Eykamp 253 in the Ridgway University Center.

Moffett published her first collection of poetry, Waiting for a Warm Body to Fill It (Cinnamon Press), in 2008. A two-time Pushcart nominee, her work has appeared in New Writing, Laurel Review, Versal, Phoebe, Hubbub, and many other literary journals. Kelly Moffett is currently the director of the creative writing program at Kentucky Wesleyan College. She also directs the Poets and Artists Weekend in New Harmony, Ind.

Mark your Calendars for Career Day 2010!

Career Day 2010 is set for Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Fitness Center. All students - freshmen through graduating seniors - are encouraged to attend. Employers will be recruiting candidates for full-time, internship, co-op, and summer positions.

Asian Summer Program in Korea and Japan (2010)

Are you interested in exploring Asian history, culture, art, music, media, economy, and politics? UE is offering a five-week summer Asian program in Korea and Japan from June 20-July 24. If you would like further information about the program such as costs, schedule, courses offered, etc, please contact professors Young Kim or Wes Milner as soon as possible. There are only a few spots still available for this summer's program.

International Orientation Leader Applications Available

International Orientation Leader (IOL) applications for August 2010 are now available in the Office of Cultural Engagement and International Services, located in the Student Life area on the second floor of Ridgway University Center. IOLs return early in August to help welcome new international students to the Evansville and campus communities. All students who will be undergraduates in Fall 2010 are invited to apply. Admission Ambassadors

Do you enjoy helping others? Would you like to meet with prospective students and share your experiences of UE life? If so, Admission Ambassadors is the organization for you! Anyone interested in joining Admissions Ambassadors this spring is invited to pick up an application in the Admission Office, and then turn it in to Catie Taylor in the Admissions Office by Friday, Feb. 12. Along with the written application, there will be a mandatory interview for all applicants which will be scheduled individually. Bowl for Kids Sake

Come out and bowl for the kids at Big Brother Big Sisters' annual Bowl For Kids' Sake event at ARC Lanes on Saturday, Feb. 6. Sign up in teams of 5 and bowl at 9am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 12:45 pm, 2 pm, 3:15 pm or 4:30 pm. The entry fee is $25 per person, and anyone who raises $50 will receive a free t-shirt! Quilts on Permanent Display at the Libraries

Ten quilts were re-hung at the UE Libraries in early January 2010 following cleaning and extensive preparation. Quilts are on permanent display on Levels 1 and 3 as an interior design element. Most of the quilts were handmade by Amish craftswomen utilizing typical Amish designs and colors.

Amish quilts were originally displayed with the opening of the Bower-Suhrheinrich Library in 1986.

One quilt created by students and faculty of Evansville College between 1939 and 1943 is a new addition. This special quilt which now hangs on Level One was the result of a three-year effort by Ms. Marcella (Horny) Stein when she was a student. Ms. Stein recently donated this quilt to UE and its Libraries. UE Libraries recognizes the important efforts of eleven local quilters who are members of the Raintree Quilters Guild. Guild members cleaned and repaired quilts, and they prepared the quilts for re-hanging which will preserve these artworks for years to come. Raintree Quilters Guild members are Dena Bauer, Linda Bohlen, Mary Brass, Jeanne Ethridge, Anita Johnson, Terry Mominee, Judy Morton, Sylvia Priola, Darlene Robinett, Kathy Scheller, and Judy Streetman. Special thanks are also deserved by UE Facilities which prepared new hardware to re-hang all the quilts and also hung the quilts. Three new Amish quilts are currently being prepared for display in February.
